Fr. Rene’s Letter Dear Parishioners,
As Easter people, who are made clean and fruitful by faith and by the Word, we continue to allow God to prune us. He prunes us to make us better. This he does by extirpating the seeds of wickedness from our hearts and by opening them to his word, and by sowing in us his Commandments. With confidence we move along abiding in the true vine, our risen Lord, who supports us in order to bear more fruits of good works and remain as his disciples.
On this Sixth Sunday of Easter, our Lord Jesus talks about the source of our good works: “As the Father has loved
me, so I have loved you.” The Father loves us but in Christ Jesus, our Lord. What a display of grace! It’s God’s initiative. The love that loves us first comes from above, not from within, unless of course, God lives within us. No material wealth, and even good health, can equal being loved by God. Surely, it does us more good to know that you and I are loved, are accepted, important to Someone, affirmed and wanted. What a great privilege and honor to be God’s children!
How does that gift love look like? God puts a human face to it. This is how God shows it among us. “He sent his only
Son into the world that we might live through him.” It is visible in the man Jesus who takes up the Cross on his shoulders so that we might be free from the power of sin and death. He hangs upon the cruel Cross because of God’s love for us. He shows God is a real friend, one who stays loyal to his fearful and disloyal disciples.
Nothing our Lord asks from us, except, that he expects us to love one another as he has loved us. “Continue in my
love.” We continue loving and living in his grace. This response will lead us to know great joy, assures us that our life will run with good fruits, and that we will bring other people to bear good fruits. Let us be of good cheer. God loves us!
Our prayers and congratulations to our forty-eight young parishioners who have just received the Sacrament of
Confirmation. Please join me in thanking Bishop Andrzej Zglejszewski, their parents, their volunteer catechists, our choir, our altar servers, and our parish staff for their selfless support.
Please come to the religious concert of the Sori-Sarang Chorus here at St. Aloysius Church on Sunday, May 6,
2018 at 6:00pm. This chorus is composed of musically talented Korean-American Catholics in the New York Metropolitan Area. Our parish Pantry will be one of the concert’s beneficiaries.
Our RCIA program this year ends on May 15
th, Tuesday, the last day of teaching. We thank God for blessing and
sustaining our RCIA team: Deacon Choi, John Hyland, Pat Rooney, Gabriel Chico, and Mary Ann Berke. Thank you guys. And we start praying for the new participants to the RCIA program which will start in September. It will admit adults who wish to be baptized in the Catholic Church, those baptized but not confirmed, and those have not received first communion.
Ascension Thursday falls on May 10, 2018. It is a holy day of obligation in USA. The following Masses will be
celebrated on Ascension Day: 8:00AM, 12:00 Noon, and 7:30pm. Keep your Easter alive and joyful. Please continue to support the Raffles sponsored by St. Aloysius Woman’s Auxiliary. Again, it is for the benefit of
our Outreach and Pantry program. Drawing of the raffles will be on May 20, 2018. FORMED, of the Augustine Institute, a Roman Catholic Graduate Institution that aims to answer the Church’s call
for New Evangelization, is now being used in several parishes in the diocese, with wonderful results. All parishes in the DRVC are being given free trial access to FORMED until May 31
st to get experience with it and take it for a “test drive”.
You can access FORMED for free by following these steps: 1) Go to www.formed.org<http://www.formed.org/>. Click to login, 2) enter email: rockvillecentre@formed.org<mailto:rockvillecentre@formed.org>, 3) enter password: formed 18.
And, with apologies in advance:
- I recently got crushed by a pile of books, but I suppose I've only got my shelf to blame.
- A man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation for a local swimming pool. So I gave him a glass of
water.
- I went to a really emotional wedding the other day. Even the cake was in tiers.
- I had to quit my job at the shoe recycling factory. It was just sole destroying.
Have a Blessed Easter Season --- and remember – that’s 50 days to celebrate!!
Peace!
Fr. Rene

Jesus’ commandment is that His disciples love
one another, even to the point of laying down
their lives, if necessary. What gifts of myself - my
skills and talents, my time and resources - will best
demonstrate my love for God’s people?
