Dear Parishioners,

Quite often in the Gospels, we hear Jesus talking about money. Whether he is telling us a parable about being prudent stewards, or of the Kingdom of God being like a pearl of great price, or how we cannot serve both God and mammon, Jesus often uses money as a vehicle to show a deeper spiritual reality. And since Jesus talks so much about money, I asked myself a question which I pose to you as well: What would be different in my spiritual life if I treated it as I treat my finances?

I have a feeling that we would be different people if we approached Christianity and our faith in the same way we approach our finances. Every month we plan a budget, we calculate our expenses, and we make a great number of decisions based on what we can and cannot afford. Our spiritual life could benefit from similar planning. We know how busy life can get at times and how prayer and participation at Mass are some of the first things which suffer negatively from it. Think how impactful it would be if we budgeted time for prayer and communal worship and made them a priority as opposed to an afterthought. What else would be different in your life? Discuss.

In Christ, Fr. JJ

Bulletin Quote ~

Have courage and do not fear the assaults of the Devil. Remember this forever; it is a healthy sign if the devil shouts and roars around your conscience, since this shows that he is not inside your will. - St. Padre Pio (1887-1968), Patron of Adolescents, Feast Day September 23

Stewardship Reflection: 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time “No servant can serve two masters. He will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth).” (Luke 16:13) Is money a “god” that you put before God? Giving money to support the Church and other charity is a pillar of our faith, just like attending Mass every Sunday and participating in parish ministry. Giving money frees us from being a slave to money. It increases our dependence on God and our trust that God will provide all that we need.

Email Scam An email scam has surfaced again in the Archdiocese. The scam email purports to be from your parish priest, who is asking for money or gift cards because of some urgent need; for example, to help someone in hospital. Please be assured that no priest of the Archdiocese would ever legitimately ask for money in this way. We encourage you to report such incidents to the New Jersey Cyber Crimes Unit and delete the email message.

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY? DO YOU WORRY ABOUT

OUR WORLD TODAY?

We would like to invite you to become part of the LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at Saint Aloysius Parish several years ago as a means of joining our prayers together to pray for peace in our country and for all our special intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several teams of 5 members each participating in our living rosary. It is a power house of prayer!

This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families can participate, the home bound can become part of the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can join also. There are no meetings to attend.

What is necessary to become part of the Living Rosary is a commitment to say one decade of the Rosary each day. You then become a member of a team who together says the entire rosary each day. It is said for the intentions of those members comprising the Living Rosary and for the specific and special intentions of our parish. It can be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time of your day.

The Rosary has been used for centuries for world peace, against the heresy of the times, during the Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times. This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that demands little of its members and produces great spiritual results.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the LIVING ROSARY. Please complete below and drop at rectory or call Dee Taylor 973-226-0209 x 32. We will then contact you to coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.

I am interested in becoming a member of the Living Rosary:
