Commitment

When students sign up for a sport or a club, they are asked to commit to attending every practice, game or meeting. A number of students are simply doing too much. They don’t have the time to put the effort into more than one or two activities.

We ask that when your child signs up for one of our teams that you discuss this with him or her. Let your children know that they will not be able to do everything. They will need to make a choice.

Frequently Ask Questions (FAQs)about LFNY Athletics

16

FAQs

▪ Does my child need to attend all practices & games? Yes, when students join a team they are making a commitment to the coaches, their teammates and the school. Being on a team is different than being in a club, which is an after-school activity running all year long on the same day of the week.

▪ Why aren’t there year-round sports at the Lycée?We follow the New York State guidelines. The state sets up the seasons, and once the season is over coaches and students are not allowed to continue. If students would like to continue in their sport we suggest they play on the outside.

▪ Can parents attend games & practices? Yes! Please! Parents are encouraged to attend as many games as possible. They may not attend practices. This is their time to work and improve their skill level. We would ask that parents do not attend practices.

17

• Are students allow to leave class early for games & practices? Yes, student athletes can leave class for games/matches. No, students are not allowed to leave class early for practices. We will try to scheduled practices at the end of the school day so that all students may attend. Students are asked to remind their teacher BEFORE the class that he/she has to leave earlier. Students should leave quietly from the classroom.

• Does LFNY provide transportation to all games and practices, and can parents go on the bus? Yes, we do provide transportation to students. Depending on the location, we take either a bus or subway. Some schools we compete against are easy to reach by subway. Parents are ask to make their own arrangements for travel to all games on their own, as space is limited on the bus.

FAQs

• How do I register my child for a team or club? Go to the LFNY web site, www.lfny.org. Choose “Academics & Activities,” then. click on athletics. On your right in blue you will see the link to register.

• Can my child keep his/her team uniform? No. All uniforms must be returned at the end of the season. Students who lose their uniforms will have to pay for them.

• Is my child allowed to play on more then one team in the same season? No. Students are allowed to participate on one team per season. They may not join another team until the following season.

• Can my child move up to the next level even know they are not in the grade the team is for? Students are allowed to move up only if they are capable of playing on that level. This is decided by the coaching staff and athletic director

19

FAQs

• When attending a game can I take my child home after the game? Yes, but, please email the coach prior to the game so that he/she knows that you will be taking your child home. If you would like to take home your child’s friend we must have this in writing from his/her parents.

▪ If I am upset with my child’s playing time should I speak to the coach after the game? No. Please follow the "24-hour rule" before addressing any issues you may have with the coaches. We would ask you to follow up by email the next day.

▪ If my child is playing a fall sport does s/he need to attend Camp Pontiac?Yes, s/he will need to attend. Teams are chosen at Camp for the upcoming fall season. Failure to attend will also put your child behind in the number of practices they will need to have before they can compete in their first game.
