They are not listed as “Endangered” according to Congress.

Lions are a keystone species.

Importance of lions (cont)

Lions and other wild life are important economically: without a balanced ecosystem the already fragile existence of African tourism will crumble

Poaching & Ancient Far East Remedies

Lions are being poached and being sold on the black market to ancient medicinal practitioners.

Trophy Hunting

Trophy hunting kills hundreds of lions a year.

Lion Society

When a pride is without a male leader, beta males or intruding males will atempt to ‘take over’ the pride’s territory.

Disease

Diseases such as Feline Herpesvirus (FHV), Bovine Tuberculosis (bTB), and Canine Distemper (CDV) are only few of the diseases being spread among the lion community.

Lions are being poisoned by villagers in an attempt to protect themselves and their live stock from lion attacks.

Why should we help?

Leopards (with 50,000) and Elephants (600,000) are lisyted as Endangered and are protected. Lions (20,000) still aren’t.

About 600 lions are shot for sport a year. These skin’s are imports for American consumers; 556 lions skins out of 600.
