Graffiti begins in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania usedprimarily by political activists to make statements and

street gangs to mark territory. CORNBREAD and COOLEARL wrote their names all over the city gaining attentionfrom the community and local press. Yearning for hisgrandmother’s cornbread while at reform school, DarrylAlexander McCray started writing CORNBREAD on theschool’s buildings, vying for attention alongside the namesof gangs. To gain fame in this subculture, artist wouldmake their tags unique. Artist/writers enhanced their tagswith flourishes and stars while many script and calligraphicstyles were developed. Released in 1967, CORNBREADran roughshod through North Philadelphia, inspiring otherslike COOL EARL and KOOL KLEPTO KIDD. Soon,

teenagers were canvassing the city with their tags, runningin crews, and keeping tabs on other crews operating in

different neighborhood."Graffiti can claim something that no other art movementcan: it was entirely created and developed by kids."

The underground artmovement dates backduring the mid to late'60s known by manynames, rooted inconscious bombing.

Knowledge Is Power

The importantance lies behind what is not seen. We are able tochange the things seen when we are not pleased with what oureyes perceive to tell us. The mystery that is hidden behind the

truth is unseen, but heard of. We remember never to conflict ourfeelings with our intelligence and to stay above the influence.

Because of the mystery we are able to give our selves away, freelyto reason and philosophy, but find our selves captive behind our

own barriers of pride and ego. When we completely free ourselvesof the things in which we can not control like the time, then, that iswhen our bodies return back to dust, the form in which we all have

arisen, dating back to the the days of creation.

A strong mind is not fixed nor satisfied on things that aretemporary, but on the things that are eternal, "out of thisworld". Eternal things that can not be replaced; soul, only

transferred, like the energy. The only thing that matters is thedust in which we have already returned once we become fullyaware and in touch with our internal beings, this is revealed bythe sacred intake of holy ganja. The matter then becomes dust. All that now is important is the life we live and the life that we

have to give.Jahmerikah Marley, ReCreation Magazine ™ CreatorR
