What is a podcast?

What is a podcast?

• A podcast is an audio or video file that can be downloaded and listened to at any time

• POD- stands for Playable on Demand

• Typically podcasts have one host or theme and can be subscribed to easily

• Downloading vs. streaming

• The number one reason given for podcast consumption was time-shifting--the ability to get content whenever the consumer desires.

• Specific content, appeal to niche audiences

Why are they so popular?

How do people listen to podcasts?80 percent of people listen on their

computer as opposed to on a mobile devices*

POD casts do not need to be listened to on ipods, and generally are not

Almost half of all adults own an iPod or other mp3 player, but these are still most popular with 74% of adults ages 18-34*

Selection tool highlight what you want to delete

Envelope tool makes blue lines appear and you can change the volume on the whole track
