National Unity Day at DLW
In lieu of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Jayanti, National Unity Day was organised on 31st
October at Diesel Locomotive Works. To mark the occasion, a National Unity oath taking ceremony
was observed on 31st October at Reception Hall of DLW Administrative Building. In which, Shri
Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager administered the National Unity pledge to the officers and
employees.
On this occasion, S/Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, CME, Yogesh
Asthana, CEE, J.N.Pandey, FA&CAO, Arjun Tabiyar, CPO,
V.R.Mishra, COS, R.R.Jha, CMgM, S.K.Jain, CMM/HQ, R.B.Yadav,
CE, M.K.Agrawal, CMM/Eng., as well as other officers and
employees took the pledge in a large number.
Earlier, in the morning a Run for Unity rally was also
organised from Basketball Court. Shri Yogesh Asthana, Chief
Electrical Engineer flagged off the rally. In this rally, Dr.
S.S.Negi, CMO, Shri R.B.Yadav, CE, Shri Sanjay Katiyar,
CME/Plant, Shri N.S.Pangti, FA&CAO/TOT as well as other
officers and employees participated in a large number. After
passing through Administrative Building, Bhullanpur Railway Station, Nathupur crossing, Inter
College crossing, and Surya Sarovar the rally culminated at Basketball Court.
On the eve of National Unity Day a grand parade of
Railway Protection Force was also organised on 30th
October at RPF Barrack, which was inspected by Shri
Jitendra Srivastava, Senior Security Commissioner.
Vigilance Awareness Week at DLW
Vigilance Awareness Week was observed at Diesel Locomotive Works from 26th to 31st
October. During the weeklong programme pledge ceremony, group discussion and a seminar onVigilance Awareness were organised at DLW. Besides essay competition and other programmeswere also organised to mobilise the people against the corruption.
The main function of the week, a seminaron "Sushasan ke Prabhavi Upay ke Roop meinNivarak Satarkata" was organised on 30th Octoberat Technical Training Center Auditorium. Presidingover the seminar, Shri Ashok Kumar Harit said thatgood governance could not be imagined withoutcorruption free society. Suggesting to adopt fourbasic principles of vigilance i.e. transparency,impartiality, competition and accountability Shri Harit said that if we follow these principles, we willnot face any problem. On this occasion Shri Harit also released "Vigilance Bulletin" published byVigilance Department.
In the seminar Shri Yogesh Asthana, Chief Electrical Engineer suggested to be practical andvigilant for elimination of corruption. He further added to adopt a positive attitude towardsvigilance and advised to do own work self instead of through mediator or improper and illegalways. He also suggested simplification of the rules. Expressing his views Shri J.N.Pandey, FA&CAO
said the transparency and right to information are effectiveweapons in the fight against corruption. He suggested exemplarypunishment system for everyone. He also stressed on periodicaltransfer and periodic refresher courses for employees andofficers. To addressing the seminar where Shri Arjun Tabiyar,Chief Personnel Officer linked vigilance with morality andemphasised on voluntary follow-up of rules, there, citing the useof helmets by bikers Shri V.R.Mishra, Controller of Stores saidthat 20% people are aware of consequences and following the
rules, 60% people follow the rules in binding and 20% ignore the rules without knowingconsequences. At the end of the seminar, proposing the vote of thanks, Shri Atul Kanaujia, Dy.Chief Vigilance Officer quoted the sayings of Chanakya on corruption and highlighted the role ofvigilance in any organisation.
The programme included staging of a short play "DulhaBikau Hai" under the direction of Shri Sudhakar Mani. In this playDLW artists depicted the evil of dowry as a type of corruptionprevailing in the society. On this occasion, pleasing over the dramapresentation, General Manager Shri Harit declared a group awardof ` 5000/- for the artists. The programme was attended by S/ShriS.K.Jain, CMM/HQ, S.K.Sagar, CPM/Mod, Dr.S.S.Negi, CMO,M.K.Agarwal, CMM/Eng., R.B.Yadav, CE, A.K.Singh, CDE as well asother officers, Staff Council members and employees in a large number. Shri Naveen Mishra, Sr.Sec. Officer conducted the whole programme efficiently.
Newly built Employees’ Club and Renovated Works Canteen inaugurated at DLW
To provide hygienically cooked, healthy and toothsome food to DLW employees onsubsidised rates, DLW Works Canteen is renovated and equipped with modern cooking facilities. It
was inaugurated by General Manager Shri Ashok Kumar Haritby unveiling the plaque and cutting the ribbon on 19th
October. To make food in clean and healthy environment, anew design of modular kitchen equipped with Aata KneadingMachine, Potato Peeler Machine, Dishwashers, modern gassystem, hot water facility from Solar Water Heater andGeyser, modern exhaust system and fresh air washers isestablished in this Canteen. Apart from this, Dining Hall of theCanteen is alsorenovated and equipped
with Steel Furniture and TV with dish facility to take food inclean and pleasant atmosphere. Besides this, Canteen is alsoproviding trolley service of Tea, Coffee, Snakes and Sweetsto the employees in workshop.
In addition to provide facilities to the employees,newly built Employees’ Club was also inaugurated by GeneralManager Shri Ashok Kumar Harit by performing rituals andcutting the ribbon. In style of Officers’ Club, DLW
administration has built this Employees’ Club in 6840 sq ftarea. In this Employees’ Club multipurpose TV and Gamesroom for entertainment, table tennis room, playing card andchess room, multipurpose hall of 2520 sq ft, Pantry, StoreRoom, separate toilet facilities for women and men etc. arealso provided. Any employees can take membership of thisClub on subscription of ` 30 per month.

DLW Stall at International Railway Equipment Exhibition
The 11th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE)-2015 was organised by theConfederation of Indian Industries in association with Indian Railways from 14 to 16 October, 2015
at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Japan Quality Railways wasthe major partner country of the exhibition. The exhibitionwas followed by seminar as well as and buyer-seller meetfor interacting with the representatives of Indian Industriesto develop and supply the rolling stock components andequipments to meet Railway's requirements.
DLW as well as other production units of IndianRailway participated in this exhibition along with ZonalRailways and various Railway equipment manufacturingunits from public
and private sectors like Daulat Ram, SAIL, BEML, BharatForge, Bhilai Engineering Corp. Ltd. and so many foreigncompanies like M/s EMD, ABB, Siemens, CromptonGreaves etc. also displayed their products and activities inthis exhibition. DLW also established a beautiful stall in theabove exhibition and highlighted its products and the factsfrom manufacturing to export of Diesel Locomotives tovarious countries like Tanzania, Vietnam, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh, Sudan, Angola etc. Shri Ashok Kumar Harit,General Manager inaugurated the DLW Stall on 14th
October, in presence of S/Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, CME,Anil Kumar Sharma, CQAM and A.K.Singh, CDE. The well planned decoration attracted visitors towatch the exhibition of DLW's working through Pictures, Translides, Loco models and Documentaryfilm on DLW with great treat. The working model of High Horse Power WDP4D locomotive at DLW
stall was the centre of attraction for the visitors and thedisplayed loco components which are to be get developedby the industry were of great importance for the vendors,supplying railway equipments. All the interesting aspectsof DLW have been vividly explained at IREE-2015.
During the three day exhibition, large number ofvisitors visited the DLW stall. Visiting the Stall theyappreciated the decoration theme and sequence ofdisplayed exhibits and put their valuable remarks in thevisitor book.
Durga Pooja and Vijaya Dashami festival at DLW
Vijaya Dashami festival was celebrated in DLW Township on 22nd October at DLW Stadium,which was attended by huge crowd. The programme started on that day with the offering of Poojan& Arti to Bhagavan Shri Ram, Sita & Laxman by Shri AshokKumar Harit, General Manager accompanied by Smt.Sumitra Harit, Chairperson, DLW Women’s WelfareOrganisation, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief MechanicalEngineer, Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel Officer andoffice bearers of Vijaya Dashami Samiti.
On this occasion depicting the various characters ofRamleela, children of DLW family enacted the excerpts from
the epic Ramayanas well as beautiful& attractive fireworks and burning of effigies of Ravan,Kumbhakaran & Meghnad were also displayed. On thisoccasion officers, employees, their families, friends as wellas civil authorities of Varanasi including distinguishedpersons of the city were present in a large number.
Durga Pooja was also celebrated in Community Halland Shiva Kali Mandir at DLW Township with traditionalgaiety and religious fervour. On this occasion, Maa Durga
idols were installed in tastefully decorated Pandals. During the Navaratri, Maha-Sasthi, Maha-Saptami, Maha-Astami and Maha-Navami puja and otherrituals were performed with great enthusiasm. The festivalconcluded with the immersion of Maa Durga idols in GangaSarovar. On this occasion different colourful culturalprogrammes were also organised at Community Hall andShiva Kali Mandir. During the Vijaya Dashami and DurgaPooja festival DLW R.P.F., Civil Defence, St. Johan'sAmbulance Brigade, Scouts & Guides and other socialservice organisations also extended their co-operation inseating arrangement, tracing out and handing over of themissing children to their parents and control the gathering.
National Cleanliness Fortnight
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, National Cleanliness Fortnight was organized from 02nd
to 15th October at Diesel Locomotive Works. To mark the occasion, a cleanliness oath ceremony
was also held on 03rd October at Reception Hall of DLW Administrative Building. On this occasion,
Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager administered the cleanliness pledge to the officers and
employees to be aware of cleanliness, every year 100 hours i.e. 2 hours per week to contribute for
SRAMDAN to keep clean our locality, village, street & workplace and make extensive publicity for
cleanliness mission etc.

Financial Commissioner, Railway Board visited DLW
Smt. Rajalakshmi Ravi Kumar, Financial Commissioner, Railway Board visited Diesel
Locomotive Works on 21st September. On this occasion, she went round the workshop and
inspected various shops including Heavy Machine Shop,
Heavy Weld Shop, Loco Frame Shop, Loco Assembly Shop
etc. along with Shri J.N.Pandey, FA&CAO, Shri N.S.Pangtey,
FA&CAO/TOT, Shri A.K.Sharma, CQAM, Shri K.B.Sahay,
CME/P and other officers. During the inspection she
witnessed the manufacturing process and driver cab of
WDP4D locomotive no. 40261. On this occasion, Smt.
Rajalakshmi also discussed various financial aspects in connection to locomotive manufacturing
with the accompanying officers.
Earlier, on reaching the workshop Smt. Rajalakshmi was given a grand guard of honour by
RPF personnel. She also planted sapling in workshop premises.
After the inspection, Smt. Rajalakshmi held a meeting with General Manager Shri Ashok
Kumar Harit and HODs. In which CQAM Shri A.K.Sharma put up a power point presentation
containing production, achievements, ongoing projects as
well as future planning of DLW. Speaking on this occasion,
Financial Commissioner expressed her happiness over
the development of infrastructure in DLW and
reduction of production cost of locomotive by ` 01 – 02
crore. She said that during the next 5 years,
infrastructure of Indian Railways would be developed
with the cost of ` 8.5 lakh crore and the Railways has targeted to load 1.5 billion metric
tonnes goods and in this direction, the high horse power locomotives of DLW would play
an important role.
Vishwakarma Puja
As in past, the poojanotsav of the god of the craft, art and creation Lord Vishwakarma was
celebrated this year too at Diesel Locomotive Works on 17 th September. On this holy occasion,
decorating their shops and workplaces
tastefully with flowers and colourful paper
clippings, DLW employees installed beautiful
and attractive portraits of Lord Vishwakarma
there. They offered pooja and aarti to Lord
Vishwakarma with performing proper rituals.
It is mentionable here that to contribute at a large in the clean ganga campaign,
this year, DLW family has taken a decision to install the pictures of Lord Viswakarma in
place of idols at Vishwakarma Poojanotsav. DLW is firm determined to continue the
implementation of this historic decision in future also.

township, where employees welcomed them with enthusiasm. Offering poojan and aarti to Lord
Vishwakarma, they actively participated in Pujanotsav and received Prasad.
On this occasion, a large fair was visible at DLW premises and workshop, where DLW
officers, employees, their families & friends enjoyed the fair as well as witnessed and offered
poojan to the beautifully decorated attractive tableau of Lord Vishwakarma in various shops at
workshop and township.
Rajbhasha Saptah Samaroh
Under the auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Rajbhasha Department, Rajbhasha SaptahSamaroh-2015 was organised from 09th to 15th September with variety of programmes. The Mainfunction of the week long programme was a seminar on "Vigyan Evam Proudyogiki Prasar MeinHindi Ki Bhumika" held on 15th September at Technical Training Centre auditorium. On thisoccasion, taking instances of popular Hindi phrases the guest speaker Dr. Siddha Nath Upadhyay,Ex. Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University said that Hindi and other
Indian languages make close human relationships.He stressed on the need of promotion andpopularise the Hindi language through the removalof disparities and including the subjects related tosocial concern in Hindi. Delivering the lecture inthe seminar another guest speaker Dr. A.K.Agarwal, Ex. Head, Computer EngineeringDepartment, Banaras Hindu University said thatHindi is the most widely spoken language of theworld. The importance of Hindi is increasing, as it
is the National Language of Indian Republic and India is emerging as the financial power in theworld. Besides, in different states, where, there are other regional languages, Hindi is used asmedium language.
On this occasion, presiding over the seminar, Shri AshokKumar Harit, General Manager said that in fact, science andtechnology could not be popularise, until it is not available in thecommon man language. Hindi is the only language which isknown to majority of people. So the efforts are needed to getavailable maximum literature of knowledge-science in Hindi. Weshould keep in mind that for such type of work we use simpleand colloquial words of Hindi. Earlier, Shri Harit also gave awayawards to the officers and employees for winning various Hindicompetitions, as well as for doing excellent and maximum work in Hindi.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and speakers in seminar ShriArjun Tabiyar, Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari focussed upon theweeklong programmes and said that Hindi is the youngestlanguage amongst other languages. He also emphasised on theuse of popular colloquial words of other languages in Hindi.

Teacher’s Day celebration at DLW
In lieu of birth anniversary of Ex. President of India Sarvapalli Dr. Radhakrishnan (05 th
September), Teacher’s Day was celebrated on 04th September at Officer’s club. On this occasion,
congratulating the teachers and para-teaching staffs of various schools, run by DLW Women’s
Welfare Organisation, Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson, DLW
Women’s Welfare Organisation honoured them by presenting
mementos.
Earlier, Smt. Harit as well as Smt. Sangeeta Sagar,
Secy. and other office bearers of the organisation lighted the
lamp and garlanded the picture of Dr. Radhakrishnan. On this
occasion expressing their views Smt. Harit, other office bearers, principals and teachers of various
schools focussed upon personality and works of Dr. Radhakrishnan.
To mark the celebration, a brief cultural programme and games were also organized on this
occasion. Smt. Sangeeta Sagar, Secy. of the organization welcomed the guests as well as
principals and teachers of the schools. While, Smt. Gunjan
Tripathi, Incharge, Bal Niketan school conducted the whole
programme efficiently. Smt. Rimjhim, Incharge, Bal Niketan
school conducted the event of games and the vote of thanks
was proposed by Smt. Shikha Jain, Joint Secy., DLW Women’s
Welfare Organisation. In the function all officer bearers and
members of DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation as well as
teachers and staff were present in a large number.
Shri Krishna Janmastami
Under the auspices of Shri Krishna Janmastami Puja Samiti, Shri Krishna Janmastami was
celebrated at Diesel Locomotive Works Rangshala from 05th to 07th September. The celebration
started with the performing of retuals and offering pooja and aarti to Bhagawan Shri Krishna by
chief guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager and
Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare
Organisation. On this occasion guest of honour Shri Asha
Ram Yadav, Dy. Director/Audit along with Shri Ashok
Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Shri Yogesh
Asthana, Chief Electrical Engineer, Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief
Personnel Officer, Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, Dy. General
Manager, Shri Jitendra Srivastava, Sr. Security
Commissioner, members of DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation other officers and employees were
present in a large number.
The celebration included Havan, Poojan and chanting of veda mantras by the students of
Panini Kanya Mahavidyalaya. On this occasion, a colourful cultural variety programme including |
Jagran Puja was also presented by Anil Orchestra Jagran Group, Bhelupura.
On 06th September, second day prominent singer Varsha Tiwari presented Bhojpuri songs.
Followed by wrestling (Kushti Dangal) programme on third day 07th September. Shri Ashok Kumar
Singh, CME was the chief guest of both the 2nd and 3rd day programmes. Shri A.K.Sharma, CQAM
was the guest of honour in wrestling programme. A programme of folk songs (Birha) was also
presented by prominent folk singers Usha Mangeshker and
Ram Ashish Yadav on 3rd day evening 07th September.
On this occasion, Sarveshwar Mandir at RPF Barrack
was also tastefully decorated and illuminated with attractive
colourful lights, where the devotees viewed the tableau of
Bhagawan Krishna and offered pooja to them in a large
number.

Inauguration of Renovated Health Club
Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager inaugurated the renovated Health Club on 26 th
August, 2015, running under the auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Sports Association.
Performing rituals he unveiled the inauguration plaque and cut
the ribbon of Health Club along with Smt. Sumitra Harit,
Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation as well as Shri
Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer &
President/Sports, Shri Anil Kumar Sharma, Chief Quality
Assurance Manager & General Secy./Sports.
It is mentionable here that the Health Club located behind DLW Cinema Hall is well
equipped with modern and latest facilities for meditation, yoga, and physical exercises as
meditation hall with peaceful ambiance, rolling machine,
treadmill, cross trainer, elliptical, spinner bike, butter fly,
vertical press/end let, functional trainer, inner and outer thigh,
leg curls/leg extension, bicep curls/tricep extension, ab crunch
back extension machine, etc.
On this occasion Smt. Anuradha Singh, Vice-Chairperson,
DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation as well as members along with S/Shri A.K.Goel, COS, Yogesh

Communal Harmony Day at DLW
Communal Harmony Day was observed on 21st August at DLW. On this occasion, Shri Ashok
Kumar Harit, General Manager administered the
Communal Harmony pledge to the officers and
employees. S/Shri A.K.Singh, CME, A.K.Goel, COS,
Yogesh Asthana, CEE, Anil Kumar Sharma, CQAM, Arjun
Tabiyar, CPO, K.B.Sahay, CME/P, V.R.Mishra, CMM/Eng.,
N.S.Pangtey, FA&CAO/TOT, R.B.Yadav, CE as well as
other officers and employees took the pledge in a large
number to maintain communal harmony and peaceful co-
existence in the society without any distinction of caste, creed, area, religion and language. Shri
Pravin Kumar, Dy.CPO conducted the programme.
In this connection, officers and employees in
different Shops at Workshop area, Stores/Depot and
other Offices inside the Workshop, Hospital and work
places of Colony area as well as Teachers and Students of
DLW Inter College, Central School, St. John’s School and
Bal Niketan also took communal harmony pledge.
Special Discussion Meeting of Nagar Rajbhasha Karyanvayan Samiti at DLW
Nagar Rajbhasha Karyanvayan Samiti (NRKS) held a special discussion meeting on 18th
August at Hall of Fame. Speaking on this occasion, chief guest Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secy.-
Rajbhasha, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India said that since time immemorial Varanasi city
has been a centre of attraction for its glorious history of Hindi literature. Expressing satisfaction
over the progress review report of NRKS, he said Hindi is a
very easy language. He appealed the member offices to
popularize the same and apprised above the recent software
that can help to resolve the problem coming in computer-
generated works.
Presiding over the meeting Shri Ashok Kumar Harit,
General Manager & President, Nagar Rajbhasha Karyanvayan
Samiti, Varanasi focussed upon the activities NRKS and said that in the last meeting, member
offices were awarded with the Shields and Certificates by the Samiti for their commendable
performances in the field of Rajbhasha. Shri Harit also apprised about the achievements of DLW in
Rajbhasha and said that recently “Premchand Hindi Library” at DLW has been computerised.
Probably, this is the very first library, which is equipped with e-granthalaya software and having
barcode. Despite this DLW is organizing various programmes and bringing out magazine to make
the Rajbhasha practically dynamic. Shri Harit also assured of cent-percent compliance of the
implementation of Rajbhasha Adhiniyam by all member offices.
Earlier, welcoming Shri Srivastava, Secy.-Rajbhasha, Ministry of Home Affairs as well as

through presentation.
On this occasion, Dr. Markandey Ram Pathak, Registrar,
Banaras Hindu University, Shri Santosh Shukla, ADRM, NER, Dr.
Bijendra Singh, Director, Vegetable Research Project Office,
Varanasi, Dr. Devraj Singh, Registrar, Central Tibetan Institute,
Shri Ram Prakash Maurya, Dy. Commissioner of Income Tax,
Income Tax Office, Shri R.K.Verma, Joint General Manager,
Indian Airport Office, Shri R.P.Ram, Dy. General Manager,
District Telecom Office, Shri R.B.Patel, Dy. Director, All India Radio, Shri Rohit Kumar, Zonal
Manager, Food Corporation of India, and Shri Sudhanshu Shekher, Sr. District Manager, Life
Insurance Corporation of India also expressed their views and put-up the progress report of Hindi
of their departments.
On this occasion, Shri Kumar Pal Sharma, Dy. Director in Charge (Implementation),
Northern Region, Rajbhasha as well as representatives of various central govt. departments and
autonomous organizations were presence in a large number. The programme concluded with the
vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Varistha Rajbhasha Adhikari and Member
Secy./NRKS.
69th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August, 2015 at DLW Stadium with the
presentation of colourful cultural programmes by the children of DLW based schools. The
programme started with the hoisting of National Flag, followed by
the inspection of parade of Railway Protection Force, St. John’s
Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence, Bharat Scouts, Guide, Cubs,
Bulbuls and Inter College Scouts & Guides by General Manager
Shri A.K.Harit. On this occasion, focussing upon the contribution
and sacrifices of freedom fighters for the freedom of the country
Shri Harit highlighted the production and other activities of DLW
including achievements of all the departments of DLW.
On this occasion, chief guest Shri Harit honoured the
President Certificate recipient cadets of Scouts & Guides by
handing over them President
Certificates as well as he gave away the prizes to the meritorious
students of DLW Inter College, who received maximum marks in
Inter, High School and Primary examinations. Shri Harit also
distributed useful equipments to the handicapped employees and
handicapped dependents of DLW employees.
The programme concluded with the distribution of fruit packets to the indoor patients of
DLW Central Hospital by Shri Harit along with Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson, DLW Women's
Welfare Organisation, members and principal officers. On this
occasion chief guest Shri Harit also inspected the training center
of Bharat Scouts & Guides at Community Hall premises. The
programme wound up with the plantation of saplings at Surya
Sarovar by General Manager Shri Harit as well as Smt. Sumitra
Harit, Chairperson, DLW Women's Welfare Organisation &
members, HODs, officers Staff Council Members and employees.
