Rents across Spain for residential property are increasing, a further

indication that the property market is on the road to recovery.Over recent years, rental prices have fallen in line with sales prices, but the latest data from fotocasta.es reveals that the average rental costs reached €7.10 per square metre in July, marking a rise of 4.8% compared to the same month in 2014, Spanish News Today reports.While these prices are still 30% lower than the peak of €10.12 reached in July 2007, it is still an indication that some of the damage caused in the global financial crash of 2008 has been repaired.In the aftermath of the crash, sales decreased sharply across Spain, with the steepest falls happening in Aragon, where rents plummeted by 41.4%, the Comunidad (35.4%), Cantabria (35.35%) and Andalucia (27.5%).

In July this year, prices in Murcia gained 2.6% and Madrid added 1.6%, while Asturias, the Balearics and Cantabria all experienced an increase of 1%. How have the first few weeks been since you opened?

“We have had a very busy and challenging opening month”, said Colin. “All our grass fitters go through an intensive training course and are constantly being accredited. Most have been fitting grass for over 5 years; however the heatwave during July has been quite interesting – even for the most experienced fitter. It´s not just the long days working through the heat, but the effect it had on the materials and machinery is far different than the UK.” u

What has been the reaction so far?“We are extremely fortunate that all our staff share the same vision and goal on Customer Care. The final result and the customer´s feedback are the most important aspects of every job”“Customer satisfaction is clear from just a few of the jobs we did during July.”What is the effect on owners with pets?“Almost every job involving pets is pleasing. Most dogs seldom see grass in Spain and as soon as it´s fitted, it cheers me up the way they don´t want to get off it!”

How do you think you can improve properties here in Spain?Unlike the UK, I find many villas in Spain have a lot of large gardens and unutilised space. Using artificial grass to create a multifunctional area, for example a putting green, makes the most of the unused space. It can also be used for parties and for children to play carpet bowls or skittles. “If the property is for rent then there is even more appeal for potential clients, simply by offering more. The nice thing on finished landscapes is what we call

It was one winter’s evening last year, I watched a programme on Help for Heroes

and they featured the Battle Back Golfers. I was amazed at the servicemen who have been injured in Afghanistan and other countries, losing limbs, and in many cases not just one limb. Most had not played golf before but had become very good golfers with low handicaps. I am a golfer, with all my limbs, and they play better than me! Some of their stories were really awful and obviously they have to cope with the psychological side as well. I looked up their web site, as I had an idea to invite two service personnel over at a time for some golf in Spain. The web site is set up for golf clubs to contact them, but I just filled in the message part, and I got a reply. I explained what I had in mind and they put me in touch with Lt Col Tristan Crew, who runs Battle Back Golf. He invited me to Hadley Court to meet him and some of the men. I explained about my idea, and he was very keen to send some servicemen over. So the fund raising began. I started

at Baviera Golf Club, asking them for complimentary golf and buggies for the servicemen. Ignacio, the owner, agreed immediately. I’ve never done anything like this before but everyone has been so supportive. I have a very special friend, who has been of tremendous help. One friend had a charity lunch and raised quite a bit of money for the cause, Arkwrights, a local English Shop has a collecting tin, which we are swapping over regularly thanks to the customers that are filling the tins up so quickly. I also spent the day in Gibraltar on 22nd August and collected money outside Morrison’s purely to raise funds for the Charity Match. Several people have even donated money by selling off golf items, equipment etc.So, I have organised eight servicemen to come to Spain on the 5th October to play golf on the 6th with GINS (Golf International Nerja Society). And on the 7th October we will have the Four Ball Better Ball Tournament. Everyone is welcome to come along and play. Please book through Baviera Golf if you would like to play on 7th

(see advert opposite for details).Several green fees and prizes have been donated and Cajamar Bank are also sponsoring this event. With all the fundraising that is happening, I’m hoping very soon to have enough funds to pay for their hotel, transport in Spain, meals and maybe even their flights. By 1965 the sixties were in full swing in the UK. The Great

Train Robber Ronnie Biggs escaped from Wandsworth Prison, former British boxing champ Freddie Mills was found shot dead in his car, the Beatles second movie Help! was released and in September Thunderbirds was shown on ITV for the first time for kids of all ages. In sport, Jim Clark won his second F1 title plus created history by winning the Indianapolis 500 and Sir Stanley Matthews played his last First Division football match at the age of 50. And in motoring, MG introduced one of the most practical sports cars ever made. Strange isn’t it that, back in the 1960s, as soon as a car maker introduced a convertible sports car, it couldn’t wait to put a tin lid on it. This was usually not just a removable hardtop but more likely a proper fastback, to turn a roadster into a more upmarket and far more practical GT. The reason was simple. The car makers realised that, one day, the typical enthusiast would outgrow their fun but impractical two-seater soft top as they got older, got married and

started to raise a family. But, MG reasoned, why should respectability be a byword for boring?As soon as the MGB hit the showrooms in 1962, Abingdon was well down the road in finalising the GT offshoot that was introduced three years later, beating arch rival Triumph by 12 months with its posher fast-backed Spitfire, better known as the GT6. Both became known as a ‘poor man’s GT’, despite their expensive price tags, but this was not in a negative way. In the case of the GT6 it was the beginner’s E-type due to its similar sleek looks, while the chunkier looking but equally head turning MG was likened to the Aston Martin DB2, which was one of the original intentions.Unbelievably, the MGB GT turns 50 this year and, over the half century it has evolved from being middle-class family man transport, to become one of the most likeable classics you could wish for – perhaps for the same practical reasons when it was new. Yet the MGB GT wasn’t always so universally loved. At launch it seemed that MG had hit upon a winner. The MGB was blessed with a

MG había triunfado, el MG fue bendecido con un gran estilo que parecía ser eterno.No solo era bonito pero tenía un maletero trasero muy útil y con el cuerpo del coche más largo podía ser usado como asiento ocasional para los niños.De repente había un coche deportivo en el cual podía llevar los niños al colegio y hacer otras tareas, por lo tanto no había necesidad de tener uno familiar.¡¡Imagina!! ¡Un coche familiar comercializado! ¡Añádele un techo de tela, como hicieron muchos… y así de verdad podrías todo! ¿Qué más podría pedir un entusiasta de un coche? El final de la fabricación de los MG en 1980 no indico el final de este coche deportivo pero el principio de un coche clásico y moderno. Por eso ha llegado a ser uno de los coches más deseados y coleccionables. Sus fallos cuando estaba aún en la producción han pasado a ser sus encantos. Todavía es altamente atractivo, elegante y a la vez es un coche práctico y útil, y con un uso diario. Una cosa buena que tiene es su apoyo maravilloso por todo el mundo de los especialistas y de los clubs de propietarios.

The height of summer may be over and the autumn months are clearly visable on the horizon, but

Meat with tomato? Doesn’t sound particularly exciting,

does it? But this dish is so full of flavour, where the pork is stewed in a home-made tomato sauce until the meat almost falls apart, and yet so simple to make.If you’re not quite convinced by the name, try it the next time you see it on offer as a tapa, and then you’ll certainly choose it for your main midday meal when you see ‘Carne con Tomate’ on a restaurant menu.It’s a very popular, traditional dish, either out or at home, in Andalucía and is based on the ubiquitous ‘sofrito’.You will need one kilo of cubed stewing pork. Ask for ‘un kilo de magro de cerdo en trozos’ at your Spanish butcher’s.Gently sauté one finely chopped onion in

some olive oil in a large saucepan on a low-ish flame. Now add one large red pepper, deseeded and chopped, although some recipes leave this out. You could use green pepper instead, or one medium sized of each colour. Add 1 or 2 cloves of chopped garlic if you want, although it’s not the done thing in some parts of Andalucía!Brown the cubed meat, and add one kilo of chopped, ripe tomatoes, peeled and deseeded, or just cut in half across the middle and grate them on a cheese grater. If you are using tinned tomatoes, you will need a large can of 800 grams. Cook on a high heat for a few minutes, throw in a bay leaf, salt and pepper to taste and a pinch of sugar. A touch of nutmeg adds to the flavour.

This should take around one and a half hours, but do keep your eye on it as it cooks in case the sauce begins to dry out, in which case you will need to add a little bit of hot water.Carne con tomate goes very well with chips, and don’t forget some fresh, crusty bread to mop up the sauce. n

It really doesn’t take a sceintist to tell you that eating salad

is a fantastic way to work in a couple of servings of vegetables and/or fruit to your daily diet. Salads are on the menu of almost every restaurant you can think of and you can make a green salad at home in just 5 minutes, armed with a bag of pre-washed salad greens, a few carrots or other veggies, and a bottle of light salad dressing.Not only are they healthy but salads can even be fun, lots of textures, colours, and flavours to play with, so even young ones can enjoy them! Apart from tasting great, salads do have some proven health benefits. For years experts have agreed that we all need to eat more fruits and vegetables (especially dark green and orange vegetables), all popular salad ingredients and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that nutrient-rich plant foods contribute to overall health. If you frequently eat green salads, you’ll

likely have higher blood levels with a host of powerful antioxidants (vitamin C and E, folic acid, lycopene, and alpha and beta carotene) especially if your salad includes some raw vegetables. Antioxidants are substances that help protect the body from damage caused by harmful molecules called free radicals.Researchers have noted a link between eating lots of fruits and vegetables and lower risks of many diseases, particularly cancer. A recent study from the National Cancer Institute suggests that people whose diets are rich in fruits and vegetables may have a lower risk of developing cancers of the head and neck. Foods found to be particularly protective include beans and peas, string beans, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, apples, nectarines, peaches, plums, pears, and strawberries.If losing weight is your goal, you may want to start your meals with a salad. Studies have shown that eating a low-calorie first
