can’t wait to
see what’s
ahead for the
rest of the year.

really well in
school and it’s
great to see them getting
along with the year eights

year 7 and 8 to get in-
volved with.
We have a bunch of fun
and cool activities that the
year 7s and 8s have been
up to, hope you enjoy our
first newsletter of the year :)

by.
During the summer
holidays Amy Page
(year 8 ) won an art
competition called
Colour the coach. In
each region the win-
ning designs of chil-
dren aged 5—15 go on the side of a
coach.
She won £50 for her fantastic drawing of
Rugby Art Gallery . She wanted to do it
because she loves drawing and often
draws her dog Alfie, and Guinea pigs
Brooklyn and Crystal. Amy told the rugby
adviser
Well done Amy you’re a great role model
for RFSS congratulations from Mrs Green
and the whole school :)
Just before half term year 7 had their first music recit-
al and it was brilliant. We saw performances of their
current music work on London Underground from
Mikey Robbins, Thomas Carvell, Hannah McGuire,
Harriet Pryor from 7TM and one with a piano accom-
paniment from Liam Tutcher, Megan Barnes, Isaac
Lancett, Lydia Moser from 7RB.
There were lots of singers too and we heard Bella
Robinson, Claudia Cater, Tessie McCubbin sing
Black Magic, before Bella Robinson encored with
Loren Batchelor singing One Last Time.
We saw her return later with Claudia Cater, Loren
Batchelor, Tessie McCubbin, Bethan Griffiths to Titani-
um. There are some really talented singers in year 7.
Bethan Pybus and Elyse Glover sang Someone to
You while Lia Johnson, Molly Sheffield, Monika Skrzek,
Mia Robson, Jessica De Oliveira, Lauren Paine sang
Lean on Me.
Our final singer was a soloist, Bella Robinson again,
singing a moving rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Di-
amonds.
Of course we also saw a host of instrument players
too. We heard Oliver Howes and Mikey Robbins
playing a guitar duet, Helena Beat; Iain Rutte played
his violin to a song called Fast Forward while Lydia
Moser played The Boat to Inverie on her violin. Lucy
Bellfield stood out as the only flautist playing Come
Summer, while Sydney Arthur was the only one on
recorder playing Ode to Joy.
This amazing recital closed with Liam Tuchter and his
piano solo. He played Nuvole Bianche and did it so
beautifully that a number of members of the audi-
ence were reduced to tears. It was a truly successful
first recital for the year 7 and we hope to see more
from them in the Christmas show.
Thursday, 3rd November marked the day of the
Year 8 student’s music recital. It all kicked off with
the first instrumental solo by Megan Mackintosh on
the trumpet playing “Theme from the New World
Symphony” accompanied by Mrs Hudson on the
piano. She was followed by the first vocal solo of the
night, “A Thousand Years” by Jasmyn Boiten and
Peyton Fincher’s “Stay with Me” on the piano.
Next, Olivia Brimley and Helena Ball teamed up with
their violin duet of “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”,
Meera Chumber took on a vocal solo with “Secret
Love Song” and Charlie Neate played “Waltz in G”
on the piano. After that, Megan Mackintosh and Ro-
wan Boiten united and played “Come Summer” and
Adelaide Crick-Hughes played “Oh When the Saints”
on her flute.
Phoebe Duncan sang “Spark”, and Arron Brooks
played “Spot The Dot Blues” on the piano, Spot The
Dot Blues is a piece that all Year 8’s have been
learning in their music lessons as part of their Blues
Music Topic.
When he finished Megan appeared again with her
clarinet and performed a solo called “Hernando’s
Hideaway”, Josh Hudson deafened everyone with
his amazing but loud drum improvisation, and Sophie
Lucas played “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” on
her violin. To finish it all off Taylor Adams sang “Just
Give Me a Reason” beautifully. It was a great night
and everyone enjoyed themselves.
At RFSS we had a European language week
where we celebrated European languages in
school. We did lots of fun activities in school to
teach the students all about the different lan-
guages in Europe and in the world. Each day
in the week we would learn a new way to say
hello in a different language and we would try
to use in the school time when talking to some-
body.
We did a Bake Off in school where students
got a chance to make a cake design having
the theme of something to do with a country
or language.
All the cakes where amazing and Mrs Morgan
and the Spanish Ambassadors were really im-
pressed with what people made. The cakes
where delicious, thank you to everyone who
made a cake. The winners of the competition
were:

At the beginning of the year RFSS had our first
opening evening in September with the new
year sevens. For our first one of this year it went
extremely well and we got some brilliant feed-
back from students and parents.
All the rooms and teachers had fun activities
going on in their classrooms, Mrs Morgan had
Spanish foods for people to try and it must have
been very popular as it went very quickly, there
was Spanish music and a quiz on the board for
people to try. Mr Wong and Mr Kerry had cool
maths challenges to do in class and there was
even a quiz that people could do where visitors
could go round the school and they had to find
out questions about the teachers.
Some students were in the 3D room where peo-
ple were able to try out our 3D glasses we have
in school, the visitors seemed to really enjoy this.
There was 3D creatures and animals like spiders
and dragon flies, and you could even watch
and look around a castle.
In the Art room they were making lots of cool
things out of cardboard including a cardboard
classroom, there was so much cardboard in the
classroom it looked like a lot of fun and I’m sure
the visitors and pupils enjoyed it.
The whole opening evening went great and we
would like to thank you to everyone that
helped and supported on the night and to all
the year 7s who did great for their first one.
In physics year 8 have been doing about
light and sound. With Mr Wong 8WW did
a sound experiment. We had a speaker
and some slime. We had the slime in a
bowl and put it on the speaker. There
was a sound being played through the
speaker. The slime in the bowl started to
“dance” or move. It was making bub-
bles that were moving with the vibration
of speaker. The vibration of the sound
coming out of the speaker. To make the
slime we took cornflour, water, starch
and green food colouring to make the
slime. But if you want to be really fancy
the word is, Non-Newtonian fluid. Mr
Wong was assisted by Miss Medes. The
experiment was very cool and interest-
ing to watch. As we raised the volume
on the speaker the slime started to rise
and move. When it does this it makes it
look like it might be dancing. This is an
experiment that you should probably not
try on your own at home. We had a sci-
ence teacher with us, so if anything was
to go wrong she knew.
Miss Ross and I have been
talking to each other on
the playground about the
litter that we see all
around the playground
every break and lunch
time. It is now getting out
of hand so we are giving
you notice that me and
Miss Ross are making a
group where Miss Ross
takes us out of class after
break and lunch for 5
minutes to collect all the
rubbish laying around on
the floor. We need people
to help us every day. This is
not a thing where you can
get out of class and not
do your work because if
we find out that you are or
see you just messing
around we will send you
back to class to carry on
with your work.
Eco Warriors is a great
way to care about the en-
vironment. Joining this will
help the world be a
cleaner place and it will
increase the years of living
because there is good air
not bad air from all the
rubbish that has gone
mouldy over the years. If
you decide to take part in
the eco warriors, you will
receive a badge that you
will wear every day. (if you
can remember.) Here is a
picture of the badge that
you will have if you de-
cide to take part.
Eco warriors will take
place every day after
break and lunch one we
have equipment for us to
use during it.
Hope to see you there!

I came and they were all true. I also live in Rugby so I am
very close to the school

that will be interviewed what would it be?
Do you enjoy working at RFSS as much as me?
Claudia Cater
I went to Welton CE Academy with Thomas and Jacob
who also come to this school, with me.
My favourite subjects is defiantly Art because everyone is
friendly and it can get very messy, you can also just doo-
dle, about things you like to do out of school.
My favourite colour is Blue.
Add in more rooms so they can do whatever they want at
break and lunch, more space so it isn’t as compact.
If you could pick a theme for the school what would it be
and why?
The past couple of weeks the year 8 netball
team have played 4 netball matches. We have
won 3 and lost 1.
Rugby Free:13 v Harris: 3
Rugby High:23 v Rugby Free:9
Rugby Free:23 v Avon Valley:6
Rugby Free:23 v Ashlawn:1
Ms Probert was very proud of the way we
played and Mrs Green was delighted to see that
we were winning matches, especially against
some of the ones we lost to last year.
The next netball match coming up for the year 8
netball team is on Tuesday against Bilton. We are
cheering the netball team in and hope that they
can bring home another win.
Miss Probert has made a year 7 netball team. If
any year 7’s would like to come along to join,
that would be great.
A couple of weeks back, Year 7’s took part in a
rugby tournament against Ashlawn and Bilton.
This took place at Rugby Lions’ ground. Many
year 7’s took part in this tournament and they
were:
Rocky, Parka, Liam, Derren, Isaac.L (c), Callum,
Mikey, Matty, Oliver.W, Stephen, Cameron.H,
Alex.R, Heath.
Our first game was against Bilton School and it
was a very intense game as we had lost to them
the game before. We fought very hard and put
in a big shift but we drew the game 2-2. It started
off with Liam scoring which put us in a positive
mood. Then Bilton managed get two tries back.
Shortly after, Parka managed to score the equal-
iser.
After the game, Liam said ‘it was a good game
and Bilton were a good side and hopefully in the
next match against them we will get a win.’
Then, Bilton and Ashlawn played each other
and Bilton had come out on top with a 3-2 victo-
ry so we were confident going into that game.
We started the game strongly with
Two early tries. But Ashlawn retaliated with scor-
ing six tries but right at the end we got one back
and that ended the game 6-3. This meant that
Ashlawn won. Later on, Mr Clancy told us ‘We
played good attacking rugby But our defence
was faulty but overall, we played a good game
of rugby.”
