Rule for election of ANPhA chair elect • At the last ANPhA Board meeting at Halong city in 2017, we,

ANPhA Board, decided following things; – Term of ANPhA chair is extended to 3 years, – Term of the present chair (=Tanaka) is extended to 3 years, – At the second year of the chair's 3 years tem, chair elect

should be elected, – The chair elect will be a vice chair immediately and will be the

next chair after the end of the present chair's term. – The term of the ANPhA chair will end at December 31st and the

new term will start at January 1st. • Since this year is the second year of Tanaka’s 3 years term

as the ANPhA chair, the chair elect must be elected. Therefore "Rule for election of ANPhA chair elect" has been prepared in order to increase fairness of the election.

Rule for election of ANPhA chair elect. Ver. 2018 Aug. 10.

1. Candidate will be selected among effective ANPhA Board members. 2. Candidate may be either a) self-recommendation or b)

recommendation by other committee member(s). Current chair may also recommend anyone.

3. In case of the self-recommendation, recommendation (or opinion) letter(s) from other committee member(s) is(are) required.

4. This time of election, deadline of recommendation is August 31 (Friday), 24:00 (Japan Standard Time), 2018.

5. The recommendation must be made by e-mail sent to current chair. The current chair must report the result(s) of the recommendation(s) immediately after the deadline.

6. Vote must be held on-site. 7. If the number of candidates is over 3, the top candidate who wins

over1/2 will be selected. If the top candidate obtains less than 1/2 votes, the vote will be done again between the top two candidates.

8. If the number of candidates is only 1, the candidate will be selected.

This “rule for election” is for the election of the new Chair Elect of ANPhA, who will be a new Vice Chair immediately after the election, and will be ANPhA Chair after January 2020 till December 2022 (3 years term).

Board members who sent me an e-mail message of recommendation were;

Discussion on applications to ANPhA as new members

• Myanmar (Prof. Khin Swe Myint) profkhinswemyint@gmail.com

• Hong Kong (Prof. Dr. Jenny Hiu Ching Lee) jleehc@hku.hk

• Kazakhstan (Prof. Kairat Kuterbekov) Кайрат Кутербеков kkuterbekov@gmail.com

applied ANPhA to be a new member of ANPhA.

Bylaws for Asian Nuclear Physics Association (ANPhA) • Membership:

• The Members of ANPhA must be representing organizations in nuclear sciences research in Asian or Oceanic countries. In each country the representing organization could be different, while the body must be “certain” representing organization which each country can authorize.

• The number of the board members from one country or region must be less than five.

• The representative organizations in some special regions, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, may also become members of ANPhA, based on mutual agreement related to the region definition.

Then I asked them to prepare a short talk or something printed for the coming ANPhA Board meeting on; 1. Are you truly representative of the nuclear physics

community of your country / region, or equivalent organization or authority?

2. What is the situation of nuclear physical activity in your country / region, which includes the number of physicists/engineers of nuclear physics?

3. What kind of advantages are expected for your country/region by entering ANPhA and what are you expecting from ANPhA (and its members)?

4. What is the appropriate number of board members (officially the maximum 4 but most likely 1-2 to start with)?

After hearing their presentations or watching their prepared materials, I would like to ask ANPhA Board to decide;

1. accept or pending of their application to be a new member of ANPhA;

2. the number of Board members for their country/region (officially the maximum 4 but most likely 1-2 to start with).

New members of ANPhA • Myanmar

• Prof. Khin Swe Myint (University of Mandalay) • Professor Emeritus, Physics Department, University of

Mandalay • E-mail: profkhinswemyint@gmail.com

• Hong Kong • Prof. Dr. Jenny Hiu Ching Lee (The University of Hong

Kong) • Department of Physics, The University of Hong Kong • E-mail: jleehc@hku.hk

• Kazakhstan • Prof. Kairat Kuterbekov (Eurasian national University) • Кайрат Кутербеков • The President of the Physico-Technical Society of

Kazakhstan • E-mail: kkuterbekov@gmail.com

• Approval of the exchange of observers to EPS-DNP • We will be an observer of EPS-DNP. • We will invite the chair of EPS-DNP as an observer of

ANPhA. Chair of EPS-DNP: Nicola Bianchi E-mail: Nicola.Bianchi@lnf.infn.it Research Director, Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare

Report on ANPhA (=AAPPS-DNP) awards for young Scientists

• In August 2017, we started the ANPhA (=AAPPS-DNP)awards for young Scientists, with financial support from AAPPS, which served as the first source of the award money.

• So far, ANPhA has co-hosted international conferences and schools held in the Asia-Pacific region (which have been designated as ANPhA conferences and/or ANPhA schools) several times a year.

• In the process of creating the award, we asked ANPhA conference / school organizers to create a system to select awardees.

• In 2017, we had three events where the ANPhA (=AAPPS-DNP) awards were given to young scientists.

• Four (Done!) + Two (Coming soon!) = Six events in 2018!
