PATERSANIWHO: Craig Paterson(vocals/guitar), Dave Pater-son (guitar/vocals), Colin Orr(bass), Danny Harris (drums)WHERE: Strathaven/Glas-gowFOR FANS OF: Catfish AndThe Bottlemen, Foo Fighters,The FratellisJIM SAYS: January is a quiettime for touring bands, so it’sa great opportunity for KingTut’s in Glasgow to stake itsclaim as Scotland’s premiershowcase venue for home-bred talent.

The 16-night King Tut’s NewYear’s Revolution festivalkicked off last night, with gigsfeaturing some of the coun-try’s most exciting emergingacts. I’m particularly keen tosee Patersani, who headlineon Tuesday January 19.

Formed by brothers Craigand Dave Paterson, I firstcame across them at a charityevent I was hosting at LochLomond in the summer.

They’ve now been in thestudio with producer BruceRintoul (Twin Atlantic, Father-son), and recently put outtheir stunning debut singleLost And Found.

Originally performing assolo artists around Glasgow, the brothers came together toform Patersani in 2014, ini-tially as an acoustic duo.

Dave said: “Both of us grewup playing in garage bandslistening to Nirvana, FooFighters, Kings Of Leon,

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club,so it was always our intentionto play as a full band.

“Since Danny joined themusic has definitely been alot faster paced. Once Colinjoined it opened up theoption for Craig to not playguitar as much which in itselfimpacted the sound with atransition more towards thestyle of bands like Catfish AndThe Bottlemen and Eliza AndThe Bear.”

The infectious pop rock ofLost And Found is a perfectintroduction to the band.

Craig said: “Lost AndFound was one of thosemoments where, as soon aswe finished it, we knew wehad something pretty special.

“A lot of songs we work onwill take weeks or months butLost And Found all fell intoplace in one three-hour prac-tice and hasn’t changedsince. The first time we playedit live we had people comingover to us after the show tell-ing how much they liked it.”

A follow-up single Ofeliahas been recorded, andshould be out soon. Patersaniappear on the new Live AtFive TV show on STV Glas-gow and STV Edinburgh nextFriday. For their New Year’sRevolution gig on the 19th,they’ll be joined by The BloodAnd Gold, The Dead Settlersand The Northern.MORE: facebook.com/pater-saniofficiallJim presents a weekly showcase ofNew Music on Amazing Radio Sun-days 2-4pm. amazingradio.com jim-gellatly.com

anything of yourself — and let-ting your passion die. If you’renot doing what you truly love, you’re wasting time.

Big WorldI started writing this three

years ago, so I’m glad the labellet me use it. It’s about Bibicoming into my life and notwanting her to grow up tooquick.

If We WaitIt’s one for the festivals, a

foot-stomper. It’s me going backto the streets I grew up in andknowing my roots.

Save It For MeI was so emotionally drained,

so I wrote something that wasfun. I used the experience of

meeting Amy in a nightclub. It’sabout meeting someone, gettingdrunk and having a good time.

StoneI had this concept ages ago of

Stone being us as a family —solid and lasting long.

Don’t GoThis is the last track I wrote.I was so drained coming up

and down from London, so Iused that feeling.

It’s about me and Amy miss-ing each other, but anyone whodoesn’t want their partner orkid to leave can relate to it.

Turn It AroundIt explains the story of me

being in London, where every-thing is grey. There were times

where I felt like I didn’t belongbut I had this feeling of wantingmy music to be noticed.

LungsI wrote this in my house and

it’s my favourite track. I wanteda big emotional song, an anthemto show what I feel inside.

It’s about embracing whatyou’ve got in life. We’re onlyhere for a short amount of time,so you’ve got to make the mostof it and take on the world.lStevie is doing a series of HMVinstore appearances over the week-end in Stirling, Edinburgh, Livingstonand Braehead — more info athmv.com/hmvlive/stevie-mccrorie

EX-FIREFIGHTER StevieMcCrorie admits hewould be gutted to goback to his day job.

The Voice winner’s debutalbum Big World comes outtoday and he has deniedreports that he is hankeringfor a return to the fire sta-tion.

Stevie, 30, said: “I never said Iwas going back. If I had to,there are worst jobs to do.

“But I don’t want people get-ting mistaken about my passionfor this. I don’t want people toassume I’m thinking of goingback. I really want to give thisa go.

“I’d be heartbroken if I had togo back to my job. It would beheartbreaking to be so close, it’son the tip of my fingers andready for the taking.”

It’s been almost a year sinceStevie romped to victory in theBBC show.

He was urged to batter out analbum early doors, but he shotthat down.

Stevie explained: “When I firstcame off the show, the plan wasto get an album out as quick aspossible and ride off themomentum. I probably couldhave done that and got a guar-anteed top 10 but I realised thiswas an opportunity I might notget again so I wanted to give itmy best show with music I’vewritten.

“I’ve been a songwriter for along time. It shows people, youmaybe thought you had an ideaabout me — but that’s not whatI’m about.”

Stevie knows people willqueue up to slate him if BigWorld doesn’t do good numbersand is determined not to followthe other series winners whohave disappeared without trace.

Stevie said: “I won’t be cryingif it’s not number one, thatwould be a discredit to every-body who bought it. UltimatelyI’d love it, if it went top 10.

“It’s important whether I likeit or not — people are going tosay stuff if it doesn’t go top 10.

“But it’d be quite a credibleachievement for a self-writtenalbum. I never got to show whoI truly was on the show. Thisalbum shows that.”

Here’s Stevie’s exclusive insightinto Big World . . .

My Heart Never LiesI was down in London work-

ing, but I really missed mydaughter Bibi. It’s about doingsomething for someone you love.

I kept it open, so it relates toanybody who’s missing someone.

Take Our TimeYears ago I wasn’t too happy

in life because I was trying tomake it in music and I had adead-end job, before the fireservice. I was at a low point. My wife Amy knew who I wasas a person and us having thisnew life to start.

CannonballsI took myself back when I

had my little girl. I wasn’thappy the way my life was.

The song is about the impactshe had on my life, knockingeverything down. I wanted tostart again.

DECLAN SCORES WITH BRAZILTEENAGE rocker Declan Mckennakicked off his career by penning abanger about the handling of theBrazil World Cup.And the 16-year-old has scoredspectacularly with it. His songBra-zil highlights the multi-millionpound stadiums that were built as

millions of Brazilians lived in pov-erty. Declan explained: “It was soprominent at the time with theWorld Cup and it was all everyonewas talking about.”The follow-up track Paracetamolis a bit maverick too. It’s a full sixminutes long. He said: “I don’t

want to restrict things by keepingevery song to three minutes orsubject matters that I won’tinclude. I write what I want to writeabout and if people like it, that’s abonus.”He’s got a packed diary. Alongwith doing schooling online, he’s

planning to record his debutalbum. And next up is a touraround the UK with the MysteryJets. They’re at Glasgow ArtSchool on February 20.Get more info at face-book.com/DeclanMckennaMu-sic
