Make yourself an Egyptian Style Art Deco head-dress

In the 1920s and 1930s the fashionable style was called Art Deco.The people who designed and made Art Deco objects got their ideas from lotsof places, from nature, from ancient civilisations and other countries.

Make your own head-dress inspired by some of the objects in the V&A ArtDeco exhibition. Look at the fantastic objects and choose your favouriteshapes. You can colour and decorate Art Deco fans, birds and flowers andconstruct a fabulous Egyptian style head-dress, like a pharaoh.

Follow the instructions and make your own fantastic head-dress.

You will need:• Stiff paper or card• Crayons, felt-tips or paints• Coloured paper• Scissors• Glue• Sticky tape• Decorations such as foil, shiny paper, sequins etc

What to do:1. Cut a piece of paper or card into

a strip about 5cms wide andlong enough to go around yourhead. You might need to stick 2pieces together to get a longenough strip. Make sure there isenough overlap to fasten theends together when you havefinished – but don’t stick theends together yet!

2. Choose the shapes you like best from the objects shown. You can print outseveral pages of them and colour them in, or cut them out and use astemplates to cut shapes from coloured paper.

3. Stick your shapes on to the band, starting with the biggest. Stick someshapes on to overlap the edges of the band.

4. When you have stuck on all your shapes, stick the ends of the headbandtogether so it fits comfortably on your head.

5. Wear your head-dress like an Egyptian pharaoh!
