Your Computer or DeviceFor best results on your laptop, Chromebook, or desktop computer, use the latest version of either Google Chrome or Apple Safari.

For iOS devices like iPhones and iPads, make sure you have the latest updates installed, then download the Learning Site® app (waysidepublishing.com/ learningsite/learning-site-app).

For Android devices, make sure you have the latest updates installed and are using the Google Chrome mobile browser.

Your DashboardYour Dashboard is your centralized location for everything on the Learning Site®. Think of it like your homepage—it contains courses, digital textbooks, and notifications.

Create a CourseTo get started, you need a course! Your Explorer® course will contain the audio, video, and online activities and resources that go along with each textbook.

If you have an access code or batch key, you will need it to create a course.

If you do not have a code or key, your school or district may be using OneRoster, Clever Secure Sync, or integrating via a third-party LMS such as Schoology or Canvas, which means your courses will be set up and students will be enrolled automatically. Contact your school or district’s IT department for information. Skip ahead to page 12 to get started with your courses.

Get started by clicking New course from your Dashboard. This will create an Explorer® course that your students will join.

I have an access code:If you do not already have an activated subscription:

∞ Click Enter code, enter the 16-digit access code, and click Submit.

If you already have an activated subscription:

∞ Find your textbook, then click on it to create a course using that textbook.

∞ Enter a unique title for your course, something your students will recognize, such as: SchoolName Period 3 Spanish.

∞ Click Create course.

I have a batch key:∞ Click Codes at the top of your Dashboard.

∞ Click Unlock, enter the 16-digit batch key, and click Submit.

∞ Check your subscription components and click OK. Your batch key will have unlocked access codes that now appear in your list of codes.

Your CourseNow that you have your course, you can monitor your Grades, Assignments, Students; access the course FlexText®; and adjust course settings.

If you are using access codes, printable instructions for your students to join your course are available at the end of this document.

StudentsRead the information below to find out more about the Students tab.

In the Students tab, you can view your student roster with a link to each student’s language portfolio, invite students to your course, and transfer students between your existing courses.

Student roster is a list of all students who have joined your course.

Invite Students*

See which students you have invited, whether they have created a Learning Site® account, and if they’ve joined your course. Students who have joined your course will also be seen on the Student roster.

Click Invite more students to send an email to students inviting them to join your course.

Transfer

Click Transfer to another course to transfer your students between similar courses.

Assignments

This is where you can assign and view assignments.

Add an assignment by clicking

∞ To learn more about adding assignments, visit our FAQ (learningsite.waysidepublishing.com/ frequently-asked-questions) page.

∞ Students who join after you’ve created an assignment will need to be reassigned those assignments.

Edit assignments

∞ Click the Edit button to edit an assignment.

Archive assignments

∞ Click the Archive button to archive an assignment.

Remove assignments

∞ Click the Remove button to delete an assignment

Completed/Assigned

∞ Clicking the numbers in the Completed/Assigned column will display the status of each student’s attempts for that assignment.

Settings

In the Settings tab, you can adjust properties that affect your entire course.

Assignment settings allow you to add a percentage penalty to assignments submitted late.

Quiz settings let you change the maximum quiz attempts (the default is set to three attempts).

Show/Hide content lets you decide what students can see under the Content tab.

NOTE: Students can never see the teacher-only resources folder (Sólo para profesores) unless an activity from this folder was specifically assigned to students.

Grades

The Grades tab shows the results of your student’s (and your own!) submissions.

∞ Requires grading:

Indicates that there is at least one student attempt that requires manual grading. Click the cell to view and grade the student’s submission.

Overdue submission(s):

Indicates that the student’s submission associated with the displayed grade was submitted after the due date or that the submission is past due.

– Not graded:

Indicates that the student has no grade, either because nothing was submitted yet or because their submission needs manual grading.

Export grades:

∞ Export your grades as an Excel spreadsheet.

Teachers can provide feedback and easily navigate between students and activities.

Student navigation:

∞ Navigate between students’ submissions by clicking the student dropdown menu or using the left and right arrows.

Total grade and teacher feedback:

∞ Click the Edit buttons to adjust the student’s total attempt grade and provide teacher feedback, including text and audio/video recording.

Question grades:

∞ Edit individual question grades by entering a grade into the text field. The total attempt grade will be automatically recalculated.

Inline comments:

∞ Add inline comments to students’ responses by highlighting an area of the student’s answer. Select a highlight color, enter your comments, and click Save.

FlexText®

Your FlexText® is the page-by-page digital version of your textbook. You will be prompted to choose your Student or Teacher Edition FlexText® to view.

Navigation

∞ Navigate through the FlexText® using the Table of Contents.

Search

∞ Search with a word or phrase to quickly find a subject within the text.

Jump to page

∞ Enter a page number to jump to that page in the FlexText®.

Notes/Highlights

∞ Highlight text to add a note or highlight, and use this button to track already highlighted areas and old notes.

Explorer® x∞ Click the Explorer® icon in the FlexText® to access related interactive activities, including playing

audio and video.
