The community of Las Delicias suffers from inequitable distribution of drinkingwater. Significant parts of the community receive water only every 8 days. Thewidespread culture of hoarding water may contribute to over 80% of childrenbeing infected with parasites and to the spread of mosquito-borne Denguefever. Shortage of water is not caused by physical unavailability but by highpumping cost due to poorly designed system.

Being Las Delicias situated on the hill of a volcano, in summer 2012 our teamconstructed a new tank at the mid-point altitude between the well in the valleyand the current tanks at the top of the village. Four hundred meters of pipinghave been laid to latch the newly built tank into the current supply anddistribution systems. Our goal is to avoid pumping water to the existing tanksat high elevation, thus, providing about 30% more water for the same priceand to aid in this will be a VFD to correct their power factor as well asautomating the pumps so as to pump during off-peak hours.

Once the construction phase of the implementation is terminated, and oncethe new system performs as expected, we will proceed with setting upeducational programs to help steer away from hoarding water practices withthe village through our NGO on the ground. Other future improvements mayinvolve improvements in the school, supplying Potters for Peace water filters, and locally making fuel-efficient charcoal stoves to avoid smoke pollution.
