Dear Educator,Your students will love learning with these reproducible

little books. You will want to introduce each Frog Street“Sing & Read” Number big book to your class first, thenprovide each student with a mini copy of the number booksto reinforce pre-reading skills. Their parents and friends will be thrilled for them to have this copy to sing and readat home. Students will quickly learn the songs and thespelling of each number word. This allows each student to be successful and to build vocabulary and language skills. The “Sing & Read” concept provides for endless hours ofstress free learning. It is our mission to continue to makelearning fun and meaningful, as we help young children tobecome literate.

Hoppy Reading!The FrogsFrog Street Press

Frog Street Press, Inc. FST015 Number Reproducible Little Booksiii

Number Reproducible Little BooksBlackline Copies of “Sing & Read” Books

The reproducible Number Little Books are designed to provide fun with written language through songs and humorous story lines while also teaching early literacyskills. The CD-ROM contains blackline masters to create the 10 titles of little bookswithin the Frog Street “Sing & Read” Number Collection.

Two script pages have been provided at the beginning of each section with thelyrics for each song. These may be used to enlarge for posters or used with overheadprojectors. The first page is written in poetry form where each line begins with a capital letter. A second script page has been provided to teach sentence structure and coincideswith the sentence structure in the reproducible little books.

Printing InstructionsThe CD-ROM contains a MAC/PC compatible PDF file of the printed Number

Reproducible book. The file is black and white for reproducing multiple copies eitheron your copier or printer. Blank pages have been inserted where needed to aid in printing a complete book. In addition, you will notice pages are turned in alternatedirections to create the little books.

The print file is designed to print on the front and back side of paper. According toyour printer’s specifications, you may need to print the even pages of your selection;flip and reinsert the printed pages in the paper tray; and continue printing the oddnumbered pages on the back. Many printers have a duplex feature which will automatically print double-sided copies.

Creating Reproducible Little BooksIt is recommended to instruct the children to outline, color and fold the first sheet

of the book before moving to the second sheet. When folding, the child should fold andcrease the sheet in the center so that pages 1 and 2 touch. You may choose to completeonly one sheet at a time.

To finish this activity, follow the above format until each child has completed all of thesheets required for the book. Fold each page individually, stack pages in correct numbersequence, and staple pages together on the folded edge. Children will enjoy creatingtheir very own little book to take home and share, or for storing in a personal library.

If it is age and developmentally appropriate, the teacher may guide the children to usethe books in lessons or small group activities. Children will practice early book handlingskills, extend vocabulary, develop language, and become aware of printed text. Studentsmay identify specific letters, words, or pictures that are being emphasized within thelesson, while enjoying opportunities to build confidence as they “Sing & Read.”
