Why bother? Why spend our time andmoney to try and pull off a “VBS” in anage where people are already busy?

For his part, Jesus didn’t consider children to be a nuisance; he didn’tconsider them to be less important thanyouth or adults. In fact, Jesus told theadults to allow the children to come tohim (because the adults were apparently

interfering). He believed the Kingdom of God belonged even to little kids andused them as an example for the adults.

The older people get, from youth on,the busier they are and the moreresponsibilities they carry. Jesus points tothe children and tells us adults to bemore like them - less like people who

think it all depends our our efforts; lesslike people who think church is all about

what “they” want and get out of it.

If you were there during VBS (and mostpeople were not), you would have seenchildren worshipping with their wholebodies - raising their hands and wigglingin circles. You would have seen kidslistening to Bible stories; making crafts,

eating snacks; and watching amissionary on video who works with thesame organization as one of our own

missionary families. And you would haveseen a great group of adults who caredenough about children to make all thispossible.

Thanks to each of those whovolunteered and showed up, we wereable to see God at work. And I hopeFCCers will see the children as importantas Jesus does, and not simply thinkchurch is all about adult time on a

Are We Keeping theVision Alive?

ago showing some people who are

still a vital part of FCC. Most people

who attend now were not a part of 

the church back then and some of 

our younger families weren’t even

born yet.

I have a couple questions for twodifferent groups of people. First, for 

those of you have been a part of 

FCC for a long time, are you still a

vital part of keeping the vision alive?

Are you just as passionate for a

church in this area as you were

when you first began attending? Are

you as involved as you were then?

Do you attend and support the

ministries like you did then?

If you were doing then what you aredoing now, would we still be church?

For those of you that are newer:

Do you appreciate what it took to

bring the church to where it is

today? Do you understand the

sacrifice the early members made?

Can you see the results of the money

they gave sacrificially and the years

they have invested (perhaps even in

your lives while you were young)?

And are you doing the sorts of 

things that will ensure there is achurch still around when your own

children grow up? Have you taken

your place of responsibility for the

church’s next decades?

I hope you will prayerfully think

through these questions. Just

because a church was used in the

past does not mean it will be in the

future. God honors faithfulness and

will use a church that continues to

value what He values. Let’s makesure we are being true to His call so

that He will be pleased. If we don’t,

God will simply use someone else -

and I would hope we would

notice His absence....
