India is the 3rd largest coal producer in the world. India is rich in coal resources and has proven reserves of 60.6 billion tons,
accounting for 6.8 percent of the world's total coal resources. Among them, anthracite and bituminous coal were 56.1
billion tons, and sub-bituminous coal and lignite were 4.5 billion tons. Similar to China, India is also a country rich in coal but
poor in oil, so the development of coal chemical industry is an inevitable trend.

Indian coal production structure by quality
Compared with China, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa and other traditional coal
countries, India's coal quality generally has the defects of high ash content (generally
higher than 30%), low calorific value, mainly non coking coal. The domestic coal is divided
into 7 grades from A to G according to the calorific value, and the coal with high calorific
value less than 4800 calories is more than 70%.

At present, there are dozens of mainstream coal gasification technologies, which can be
divided into the following categories: pulverized coal fluidized bed gasification technology
represented by high temperature Winkler and KBR circulating fluidized bed gasification
technology (riser gasifier); entrained flow gasification technology represented by GSP, Shell
and Texaco; fixed bed pressurized gasification technology represented by Lurgi and BGL
slag gasification technology. Restricted by economy condition, most coal gasification
technologies require raw coal content ≤ 25%. At present, Shell, HT-L and other widely used
coal gasification technologies have good adaptability (8% - 35%) to high ash coal types.

With high content of coal ash, there is less effective gas composition after gasification. When
coal of the same quality is sent to the gasifier, the coal with high ash content has less gas
production, large amount of ash and high energy consumption.
It is suggested use high ash coal by means of coal cleaning technology and coal blending. If
from coal gasification technology, its economy should be considered.

In the production process, gasification and synthesis are two decisive processes. The
gasification synthesis process mainly includes ICI low-pressure methanol synthesis process,
Lurgi low-pressure methanol synthesis process, TEC's new reactor and the liquid-phase
methanol synthesis process which is tending to mature. Air separation, transformation,
purification, compression, hydrogen recovery and distillation are common processes.

The raw gas produced by gasifier is used as raw material for the production of EG. The raw
gas is divided into two parts. One part of the raw gas is sent to the low-temperature
methanol washing desulfurization and decarbonization after residual heat recovery, and
then to the co cryogenic separation cold box. The extracted co product is compressed and
sent to the glycol unit to synthesize the intermediate product dimethyl oxalate; the other
part of the raw gas is sent to the low-temperature methanol washing desulfurization after
deep transformation. Decarburization, the purified gas from methanol washing is sent to
PSA Hydrogen production process to produce high-purity H2, which is then sent to glycol
unit and purified dimethyl oxalate to synthesize crude EG, and the crude EG is separated
and refined to get EG product.

production method, and also one of the main production processes of BDO at present. The
technology is relatively mature, the process is short.

Acetylene and formaldehyde were oxidized by methanol to form butynediol
(35% BYD aqueous solution) under the action of catalyst. Under the action of
nickel metal catalyst, 1,4-butanediol (BDO) was synthesized by hydrogenation
of butynediol with hydrogen from PSA hydrogenation unit. The crude BDO was
removed from water, light components and heavy components to obtain fine
1,4-butanediol.

The tail gas of coal chemical industry contains many kinds of sulfur compounds,
the most common are sulfur and hydrogen sulfide. If it is used as raw material to
produce fine chemical products, it will bring huge economic benefits.

Methanethiol sulfurization is also completed by two steps. First, methanol and hydrogen
sulfide are used to synthesize methanethiol, and then methanethiol reacts with elemental
sulfur under catalyst conditions to generate crude dimethyl disulfide and hydrogen sulfide.
Hydrogen sulfide is pressurized to the front end to be the raw material of methanethiol,
and then the crude dimethyl disulfide is rectified to obtain the finished product dimethyl
disulfide. The reaction conditions are mild, the equipment material requirements are low,
the production process has the characteristics of "three wastes" emissions less, the
production cost is low.
