So how do we know which nouns are masculine and which ones are
feminine?
Most masculine nouns end with -o

You can also tell the gender of the word by identifying the gender of

-Nouns that break these rules need to be memorized as to whether they are masculine or feminine.
-In general most nouns that end with -o are masculine and most nouns that end with -a are feminine.
