as an acting Vice Chancellor. The moment our University completed its five years after
inception, ICAR accredited our university for 5 years considering the overall progress of our
university in teaching, research, extension and good governance. Our University students
bagged 17 Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) during 2013-14 and 14 JRFs during the current
year of 2014-15 and also bagged runner up trophy in Agri Unifest -2014
I congratulate all the Deans and faculty of constituent colleges of our university with whose
guidance and efforts our students brought the name and fame to our organization. Kittur Rani

Annual College Day and Hostel Day functions of College of Horticulture, Bengaluru was organized on
th4 April, 2014 at new premises of College of Horticulture. GKVK, Bengaluru. The function was inaugurated by Honorable Vice-chancellor Dr. S.B. Dandin. It was followed by release of college magazine “SIRI VATIKA - 2014” by Dr. Manmohan Attavar, Founder & Director of Indo-American Hybrid seeds, Bengaluru. Retired Professors and Heads of Division of Horticulture, UAS, Bengaluru namely, Dr. U.V. Suladhamath, Dr. K. M. Bojappa and Dr. P. Muddappa Gowda, Regional Director of Bioversity International, New Delhi, Dr. Prem Narayana Mathur, Members of Board of Management of our University, Dr. T. V. Muniyappa and Sri. H. K. Shrikanta, Sri. S. N. Krishna Kumar, Deputy Secretary, Department of Horticulture, GOK, Bengaluru were felicitated at the function along with Dr. S. B. Dandin. The programme was presided by Dr. H.B. Lingaiah, Dean and Campus Head, College of Horticulture, Bengaluru. Sri. H. Dunidiraj, Chief Manager, Corporation Bank, Bengaluru delivered a talk on the occasion. The Post Graduate students presented various of cultural programmes which were very interesting and entertaining.

The function was inagurated By Dr.B.B.Kaliwala, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Davnagere University and presided by Dr. S. B. Dandin, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, UHS, Bagalkot. The function was graced by Dr. Muniyappa, BOM, UHS Bagalkot, Dr. B. Raju, Director of Education, Dr. M. B. Madalageri, Registrar, Dr. Y. K. Kotikal, Dean Student welfare, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot. On this ocassion, Dr. S. B. Dandin was felicitated along with progressive farmers Sri Devendrappa Shankrappa Balutagi of Kustagi and Sri Y. Srinivas Rao of Koppal. The Graduate students presented various cultural programmes on this occasion.

Academic Council Meetings of UHS, Bagalkot
th th The 14 and 15 Academic Council meetings of University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot was held
th thon 11 April, 2014 and 26 May, 2014 respectively, at Conference Hall, Udyanagiri, Bagalkot. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor chaired the meetings and discussed on different policy issues related to Education, Research and Extension of the University. Further, the council finalized the intake capacity for Graduate, Masters & Doctoral Degree programme and accorded its permission to start Certificate, Diploma and PG Diploma courses in Horticulture from the academic year 2014-15.
Bagalkot were felicitated. Dr. N. Basavaraj, Dean, COH Sirsi welcomed all the guests and Dr. S. V. Patil, Associate Professor of Agronomy proposed vote of thanks. All the students and faculty members actively participated and made the function a grand success.
nd 2 High Power Committee Meeting for the Establishment of Horticulture Engineering and Food
thTechnology College was held on 4 April, 2014 at Conference Hall, College of Horticulture, Bangalore. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. S. B. Dandin chaired the meeting. After detailed deliberations the august body finalized the syllabus for B. Tech. in Horticulture Engineering and Food Technology.

Dr. S. B. Dandin on completion of his tenure on 19 April, 2014. In his farewell speech Dr. S. B. Dandin expressed that
he rendered satisfactory service for overall development of the University in particular and farmers of the state in
general during his tenure as Special officer and First Vice Chancellor of the University. He had all praise for the
University officers and all the teaching & non-teaching staffs of the University who served with him at different places
in different capacities. The dignitaries highlighted the qualities of Dr. S. B. Dandin and recalled the noble services
rendered by him to the University and wished him all the best in his future endeavors. Similarly the staff and students of
all the constituent colleges also felicitated Dr. S. B. Dandin.

organized from 5 -10 May, 2014 at Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi to Post Graduate Students. The course was organized by Dr. K. S. Shankarappa, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Pathology. Dr. Jayappa J. Assistant Professor of Agril. Entomology served as resource person for the course. Totally 38 PG students have undergone the training. Dr. Nagesh Naik Prof & Head and Dr. M. S. Kulkarni, Dean, KRCCH. Arabhavi were the chief guests and president for the closing ceremony respectively. Mr. Gururaj K, PG student anchored the programme.

thin Our Diet” on 11 April 2014 and the lecture was delivered by Dr. Bhimana Gouda S Patil, Director, Vegetable and Fruit Improvement Centre, Texas A&M University (TAMU), Texas (USA). Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Director, Directorate of Seed Research, Mau, Varanasi was special guest and spoke on the opportunities in the field of Seed Science in Horticulture. Dr. S. B. Dandin, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor presided over the function and all the Key officers, scientists and students of the University attended the lecture.

Three days workshop on PCR Applications was organized at Department of Plant Pathology, KRC College of Horticulture, Arabhavi in collaboration with
thEppendorf India Pvt. Ltd. from 22-25 May, 2014. Dr. K. S. Shankarappa, Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology. Mr. Syed Arif Sulthan, Product Manager, Chennai and Mr. Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Territory Manager, Bangalore from Eppendorf India Pvt. Ltd. were involved in organizing the workshop.Workshop comprised the theoretical and hands on training. Ten PG students attended the workshop. Dr. P. M. Gangadharappa, Prof & Head, Dept of PMA, Mr. Syed Arif Sulthan and Mr. Gopalakrishnan from Eppendorf India Pvt. Ltd. were chief guests for the closing ceremony. Dr. M. S. The Cropping Plan Meeting of Southern Region of th
Karnataka was held on 12 May 2014 in the Seminar Hall, RHREC, UHS Campus, GKVK, Bangalore. In this meeting Dr. B Raju, Hon’ble Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. J. Venkatesh, Director of Research and all the Research Sations Heads/ Farm Superintendents of Southern region were present and discussed the cropping plan for the year 2014-15. Dr. T R Guruprasad, ADRE, RHREC, Bangalore welcomed the gathering. The concerned scientists presented their farm activities and achievements made during 2013-14 and they also presented cropping plan for the year 2014-15. Finally discussed about the prices to be fixed on all the seeds and planting materials produced from UHS, Bagalkot.
Dr. A. B Patil, Director of Extension and Nodal Officer -IFS and Dr. Y. K. Kotikal DSW, UHS, Bagalkot visited IFS Phase –II beneficiaries’ fields at Kamalapur hobli of Hospet taluk along with IFS-II Co-ordinator Dr. Shivayogi Ryavalad, Asst. Professor, COH, Munirabad on15.05.2014 and had a interaction with all the IFS beneficiaries and appreciated about the increase in the banana area with UHS intervention by supplying tissue culture plants of Yelakki Bale. One Day Training Programme on “Importance of Integrated Farming System” and Distribution of Inputs under IFS Phase-II was organized at COH, Munirabad to the IFS beneficiaries on 30.05.2013. Dr. K. N. Kattimani. Dean, COH, Munirabad addressed the farmers and distributed the inputs like hybrid maize, Bt cotton, sunflower and paddy seeds. Dr. Shivayogi Ryavalad, PI, Dr. D. P. Prakash, Co-PI of IFS-II and Dr. Jagadeesha N. Assistant Professor of Agronomy organised the programme. Totally 260 farmers and IFS beneficiaries participated in the training programme.
The Cropping Plan Meeting of Northern Region of th Karnataka was held on 15 May 2014 at RHREC,
Dharwad. In this meeting Dr. J. Venkatesh, Director of Research and all the Station Heads/Farm Superintendents of Northern region were present and discussed the cropping plan for the year 2014-15. Dr. J Venkatesh, Director of Research, UHS, Bagalkot welcomed all the scientists from different centres of Northern Zone of UHS, Bagalkot. After presentation from all the scientists, the Director of Research approved the cropping plan of each Station with modifications.

A training programme on Mango Value Added
products preparation was organized jointly by Karnataka
State Department of Horticulture and KVK, Kolar at
Srinivaspur on 29.04.2014. Sri. Mallikarjun Babu,
SADH presided over the function. Dr. Deepa Terdal,
SMS (Home Science) gave elaborate information and
hands on training on preparation of various value added
products of Mango. Totally 36 farm women participated
in the programme.

Blood Donation Camp at COH. Sirsi
On the eve of ‘World Red Cross Day” on 08.05.2014, a Blood Donation Camp was organised at COH, Sirsi in collaboration with IMA Blood Bank, Sirsi and Youth Red Cross Unit, COH Sirsi under the leadership of Dr. N. Basavaraj, Dean. All the students and staff took very active part in the programme, in which 8 faculty members, 6 girl students and 34 boys donated the blood. The programme was well organised by Dr. N. K. Hegde, NSS officer Dr. Shivakumar K. M of COH, Sirsi and Dr. Suman Hegde from IMA Sirsi.

VIP Visitors to University OUR PRIDE
Mr. Kashinath Patil and Ms. Akshata Hongal of KRC College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, bagged the first prize
thin district level science exhibition in the 13 Satish Sugars Awards event held at Gokak. Students have prepared and exhibited the model of “ECO FRIENDLY HYDRUM” which can lift the water without electric power / energy up to a height of 20-25 feet under the guidance of Dr Dileepkumar Masuthi which has attracted many people in the function. The students received the cash award, certificate and a trophy.
