CENTRE FOR PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN THIS ISSUE

Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey 30th April-18th June The annual Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) will shortly be dropping into your email box. Completing this is your way of communicating to the university and us your views on the course you are undertaking and how we can improve the service we offer.

The survey consists of a series of online questions related to different aspects of your study and the provision provided by the Centre and its staff. Additionally there are opportunities for you to provide supplementary comments and expand on the statements. These can be particularly helpful to CPP in providing clarity and further developmental suggestions.

The University is particularly interested in finding out about the things you have enjoyed, what it has done well and where you

consider improvements could be made. Your comments and views really count and they will be used to enhance the quality of the academic experience for postgraduate taught students in the future.

The University offers each student a £10 Amazon voucher as an incentive for responding to the survey and CPP are offering three additional £50 vouchers if we achieve 100% student response.

At CPP we analyse the results of the survey and scrutinize the comments made to inform our future planning. So please take the time to complete the survey. Look out for the email inviting you to take part and help us to help you and other students in the future.

Society for Professional Practice Ideas for this initiative are still moving forward and the students acting on your behalf to get this exciting initiative off the ground are working hard. Key personnel have been nominated to the main positions required for the process to proceed and the application is

nearing its final stages of preparation before being submitted to the Student Union.

The purpose of this society is to provide you with an interactive network where you will be able to share and develop your experiences and expertise with colleagues within and across professional boundaries. The aim is to provide a forum for interdisciplinary discussion and debate around professional practice and procedure.

The Society hopes to be able to provide some or all of the following:

A dedicated area on the CPP website

A termly meeting

Workshops

Employability events

An annual conference

Facebook

Twitter

Anyone who is interested in being involved further please contact Sue Evans Centre Support Coordinator who will pass on your details and ideas to the relevant people.

Enhance your career prospects in 2016!

Get your BA/BSc Top-up award If you already have a Foundation Degree, Undergraduate Diploma or professional qualification why not find out if you could advance your career with the BA or BSc Top-up award in Professional Practice. The programme starts in October 2016 and is delivered in Medway part-time at weekends over 2 years.

This work-related learning programme is suitable for those working in a wide range of areas in the public and private sectors: health and social care, education, local government, public services, human resources, administrative services, cultural industries, retail, hospitality, financial and legal services and more.

Key outlines:

• Broaden your work-

related expertise while

gaining a recognised

qualification

• Study with like-minded

people through part-time

and blended learning

delivered part-time at

weekends over 2 years

• Taught by leading

academics and

practitioners at the

University of Kent’s

Medway campus.

The programme offers an opportunity to attain academic recognition for the skills, knowledge and experience you have developed in the workplace. It focuses on a specific area of practice relevant to your work and enhances your career progression. You can explore your profession further and consider the professional challenges associated within your specific area of practice. The modules have been designed to help you review and analyse the current debates relevant to the professional context in which you are working.

The programme is structured over three modules delivered over two years. Year 1 (30+30 credits) and Year 2 (60 credits).

Taught sessions are delivered over a series of long weekends (on average 6 weekends Friday-Sunday per academic year), with the exception of the induction weekend, which will take place on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 October 2016 (subject to student numbers).

Credits Transfer

If you have already studied at university level, this may count towards your Top-up qualification – reducing the number of modules you need to study. It is not only study completed at a university that can be considered, you can also transfer study from a wide range of professional qualifications. You should apply for credit transfer before you register. We need to know what you studied, where and when and you should provide original evidence of your previous study. We will compare this against the learning outcomes for your chosen qualification and inform you of any award.

CPP settled in their new home

The CPP administration team have been in their new offices at the Medway Building now for several months.

Some members of the team continue to commute between the Canterbury offices but both offices are covered by staff full time if you require assistance or support.

Thank You Thank you for the kind generosity of Dr Terrence Nice of the University of Kent, Charlotte Gremo-Gilham of CS in Chilham and Charles Bainbridge Estate agency Ltd of Bridge in setting up the Harriet Haynes Memorial Award.

In keeping with the donors wishes the gift will be used annually to reward a Master’s (or above) level student, with a £100 prize, for either their dissertation or another special project which has demonstrated impact within any field of research or practice related to pediatrics or children.

Cake Sale

CPP recently held a cake sale and raised £80 in support of Alan Le Grys who will be running the London marathon later this month. All the proceeds from the sale and Alan’s other sponsorship money will be going to Christian Aid.

CPP would like to thank everyone who supported our cake sale and we wish Alan good luck with the marathon.

We hope you found this newsletter informative. If you have any items and or stories you would like included in future editions, please forward these to
