WHAT IS APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY?

• Buzzword of the 70s• Equivalent to “Sustainability”

WHAT IS CCAT?

• Demonstration home for sustainable living

• Student-run organization– 3 Live-in Student Co-Directors– 15-20 Student Employees– Student Volunteers

• Advisors– 1 Faculty Advisor– Steering Committee

(faculty, staff, community members, former co-directors)

• Funded by student fees

• 1978 Founded by students • 1980 Occupied residential house on campus • 1981 Became Associated Students Program

• Working towards sustainability for 32 years

• 2004 Relocation• 2006 Remodeled original house• 2007 Occupied current permanent site

• Experience and knowledge on running non-profits

• Interpreting the mission• Making policy decisions• Setting annual goals• Writing and executing budget• Supervising staff, volunteers,

students• Representing the organization

within HSU and beyond• Doing the dishes at the end of

the day

• Verbal and written communication

• Leadership• Organization• Understanding and applying

Appropriate Tech principles• Ability to work in cooperation

with others• Good interpersonal skills• Desire to learn!
