Belcor® 575 – the Proven, TESTABLE, All-Organic Corrosion InhibitorAlternative to Higher Cost Sodium Molybdate

Experiencing the skyrocketing cost of sodiummolybdate?

Are bottom line profits being eroded by rising andunpredictable molybdate pricing?

Regain profit margin by switching to Belcor 575.

With Belcor 575 you get improved corrosionperformance and a far better ‘cost to use’ profile. Belcor575 can restore the profitability of water treatmentprograms hit by spiralling sodium molybdate costs.

Cost of Molybdate Tracing IonsTracing ions like sodium molybdate just add to cost ofgoods sold, end user costs, and reduce the competitiveedge of the water treatment company.

The cost per lb of sodium molybdate is now more thantwice what is was a year ago. Using molybdate as atracing ion is becoming prohibitively expensive.

For example; use of 5% sodium molybdate in aformulation would cost $225 per drum (100 ppm offormulation to give 5 ppm of molybdate in the systemwater at a cost of $9.00 per lb ($19.84/kg) in a 500lb(225kg approx) drum of formulation.

Replace sodium molybdate with Belcor 575 weight forweight and save at least $120 per drum!

If the cost of sodium molybdate rises even more thesavings with Belcor 575 are even greater.

The cost of sodium molybdate fluctuates widely as it ismined and speculated on world metals exchanges whileBelcor 575, a manufactured corrosion inhibitor, hasnever experienced these wild fluctuations in price. Inaddition, Belcor 575 is a well known ferrous metalcorrosion inhibitor. Why pay exorbitant prices fortracing ions when you can pay substantially less forBelcor 575, a proven, testable direct corrosioninhibitor.

Performance of Belcor 575Belcor 575, 50% aqueous hydroxyphosphonoaceticacid, is a unique all-organic corrosion inhibitorspecifically developed to meet the demands of moderncooling and water systems. In combination withstabilising and dispersing additives, Belcor 575 is apowerful tool in the formulation of high performancecorrosion inhibitor programs. The following exampleillustrates the performance benefits and cost reductionpotential of replacing 10 ppm sodium molybdate usedas a corrosion inhibitor with just 5 ppm of Belcor 575 fora high cycle scaling but also highly corrosive water.

Product Information

Further additional benefits;• Belcor 575 is an environmentally acceptable additive

in water treatment and has a good biodegradabilityprofile. This makes it especially suited to thosegeographic regions where molybdate discharge isregulated at very low levels.

• Belcor 575 can be formulated to give effective, highperformance all-organic programs. Studies confirmthat Belcor 575 combines well with calcium ions toproduce an effective, tenacious film at cathodic siteson mild steel surfaces. This film suppresses thecathodic corrosion reaction and therefore the overallcorrosion process. The film formed does notinterfere with efficient heat transfer.

• Concerned about molybdate testing versus Belcor575? Belcor 575 is a phosphonate based compoundand therefore widely available standard organo-phosphonate test kits will recognise the Belcor 575molecule. Kits that buffer pH and complex fluorideand halogens are recommended for best accuracy.

If your formulation contains both Belcor 575 andBelclene 660 (HEDP) or other phosphonatematerial, just add the total organo-phosphonateproviders and control the system on the sum of thephosphonate components. For example; if you had5% of molybdate (to give 5ppm) and 3 ppm (active)of HEDP, replace the molybdate with Belcor 575 atthe same concentration i.e. 5%. 5ppm Belcor 575as product will give 2.5ppm as active ingredient +3ppm active HEDP = 5.5ppm of total organicphosphonate

Belcor 575 can be stabilised in the presence ofhalogen based biocides such as sodiumhypochlorite, LiquiBrom

®(sodium bromide), and

BromiCide®

(BCDMH). Contact your localdistributor or BWA Water Additives direct foradvice.

Not sure how to convert a product formulation ortesting regime? Your local distributor or a BWAWater Additives representative can advise.

The faster you upgrade to Belcor 575 themore profit you can return to the bottomline.

Keep the competitive edge upgrade yourtechnology as well as your profit margins.
