Art In Windows Fall 2012: Virtual Art Walk

Preview:

DESCRIPTION

Art In Windows brings together artists, curators, scholars, business owners, merchants, residents, and organizations from the local community in the presentation of temporary public exhibitions. Through this ongoing project we seek to transform vacant storefronts into living, breathing art spaces that celebrate the rich legacy and history of downtown Richmond, and to explore the relationship between art and community development. The Fall 2012 exhibition of Art In Windows featured works on paper by Frederick Franklin, a Richmond resident who has been active in the community for over 30 years working to revitalize the Iron Triangle and creating prints, collages, and mixed media works on paper that play tribute to local residents, service agencies, City and community leaders, and philanthropists working throughout the City of Richmond. The Fall 2012 Art In Windows exhibit featured more than twenty of Franklin’s works exhibited earlier in the year (in a show with the same title) at the Richmond Art Center. This display brings to Downtown Richmond Franklin’s dynamic representation of the rich history and heritage of the Iron Triangle and its residents. Richmond Main Street hosted an opening reception and art walk on November 9 that invited residents and community members to explore the public art on display in Downtown, as well a the works of Franklin.
