INFORMATION SESSIONS: Wednesday, September 28 and Wednesday, October 5, 11.30am to 12.30pm

433 Paterson hallInstructor: Aboubakar Sanogo

Prof. Blair Rutherford, Chair of Institute of African Studies

Prof. Aboubakar Sanogo, Film Studies and African Studies

The course is entitled African Cinema on Location and will consist in bringing to Burkina Faso, the home of African cinema, Carleton University students to study the important aspects of African cinema in situ. The course will be structured in such a way as to take the fullest possible advantage of the location, thus being a course that could only be taken there.

Consequently, the course will have a dual focus; the study of African Cinema in general and a case study of the cinema of Burkina Faso as Ouagadougou hosts both the institutions of African and Burkinabe cinema. This dual focus will in turn rest on three legs, that is, institutions, people and places.
