Just when we thought it was safe to return to the fields, Mother Nature had a little surprise forus all! The Bureau predicted a rain event, but the sixth flood for the fields since the first stormin November last year (four in less than a month) certainly ripped through the junior fields. Theflood waters rose so high they almost reached the fence on the senior fields.
As you can see from the images, the water level was the highest we have seen at the club. Itreached the top seat on the Field 3 dugouts and flowed over the banks on the side of the field.Pear Street was flooded and the U10/11 goals floated all the way down to Stones Corner wherethe flooding was particularly apparent.
Due to the flooding we've had to close Field 3 for full-field games and have had 10 tonnes oftop dressing material delivered in an attempt to make the field safe to train and play on onceagain. Thank you to our senior club members who previously built up the grass coverage onthe field to help withstand some flood damage. Unfortunately, despite these measures, thefield did still cop some damage including ruts and wash outs.
Hopefully this will be the last of the floods for the year and by next week the new pumps forthe irrigation system will be operational. This will then allow us to irrigate more effectivelywhich should further improve the grass coverage and prevent any damage in future!

I fell out of love with playing football in 1989, and decidedto turn to coaching instead. Since then I have coached 56teams and have learnt a lot with each one. I met RobMonteverde during my coaching period with Wolves FCand Carina, which resulted in my move to Annerley FC in2013. It was a great first season with the club as I helpedRob coach the City League 5 Men's team to victory.
This year Annerley FC has a lot of new faces. We've had a good pre-seasoncompetition which helped sort out the rosters. In my squad, the City 4's,there is a lot of culture and we have blended well as a team. We've had adecent start to the season, considering we have played three of the topfour teams on the ladder. We've played some very good football at timesand there have been moments where luck has not favoured us. There isgood commitment from the lads and they are willing to learn. I am sure thesquad will have a great season and keep up the Annerley spirit!

After a poor start to the season, we have workedhard to turn our results around and havemanaged to get two good wins in our last twogames. However, our momentum has beenhalted with three weeks off due to the bye, theANZAC weekend and a wash out round.
We are determined to continue our winning formthis weekend against a strong Toowong team.
Coach's Corner! with Anthony Costa
Previous Women's Results...All Annerley Senior Women's games were cancelled last weekend dueto the severe weather and flooding of the fields! Catch up games willbe arranged in the coming weeks.
We are missing a few regular starters, however, this provides anopportunity for some of our City 1 players to step up and gainexperience at Premier League level. .Go Annerley!!

I think making sure I have allmy shinnies/boots/socks/pants in my bag androcking up on time is all the pre game ritual Ineed!Favourite footballing moment? Witnessingfirst hand El Clasico (Real Madrid v Barcelona) inMadrid, it was intense!Which footballer would you trade places withfor a day? I would enjoy trading places withRonaldo because I've always wondered what itwould be like to have those incredible footballskills, a six-pack, and perfectly shaped eyebrows.
Full name: Damian HassettNickname(s): Lump, Lumpy, Lumpa, ElLumpadore, The big L, Lumpunzel,L-Train, The Little Lump That Could, TheFresh Prince Of Lump-air, Damo.Current Annerley team: Men's City 4.Most embarrassing footballingmoment? Playing against Olympic, Iscored an own goal diving header froman opposing cross. Joe Wood never stooda chance. What do you remember about yourfirst ever coach? Brian Gillespie! It wasmy first season at Annerley (in fact myfirst time ever playing the sport) and hequickly realised that I lacked anything resembling skill or talent. Hemoulded me into the player I am today.Favourite food? Anything but paw paw.
When I score a goal I'm likely tostop and stare with a confusedlook on my face.
