“When we create a new shopping environment, we have the needs of three diverse groups of people in mind, the investors/developers; the retailers and most importantly the consumer. If all of these are satisfied, then the schemes will succeed.” Mark Anders, Group Director - Head of Retail

ConsumerModern shoppers expect a wide range of choice. They demand global brands that reinforce lifestyle choices. The shopping environment must provide them with ease of access, convenience, variety, security and a positive experience. Investor/DevelopersSuccessful shopping developments require flexible solutions that can only develop over time. Consistent returns can only be achieved by designing adaptable layouts; living, vibrant environments that continue to attract and retain consumers time after time.

RetailersA flexible, economical space allows the occupiers the ability to best present their brands and products. A compatible mix of other retailers provides the necessary variety, which is key to attracting more consumers.

“We don’t believe in creating bland, repetitive shopping malls that could be anywhere on earth.”

Brands can be global, but the shopping environment should celebrate the cultural aspects of its location, inspiring shoppers to have fun, take time to enjoy what’s on offer and ultimately return time and again. From defining the personality of a major urban regeneration scheme to the finer details that get noticed and give a place its identity, we can add real value to your retail project.

Successful shopping centres offer more than great places to shop. They are inclusive places where you can eat, drink, catch the latest movies, work and play. Our experience in designing and delivering major new urban centres shows that we understand how to bring together a mix of uses into a single destination. By drawing people together, we can ensure they will stay longer, have a greater, more memorable experience and return time after time. “Retail centres

are one of the few environments that mix different cross sections of the communiy together. This can be used to great advantage.”

a place that is easy to understand

A stimulating and uplifting environment is the result of a creative process that through inspiration, exploration and discovery challenges existing paradigms and is open and responsive to new ideas. The source of inspiration, whether natural or artificial, must be relevant to the existing environment, appropriate to the newly created environment and should ultimately inspire creativity, development and transformation in individuals and the community.

Today’s consumers are highly attuned to the importance of branding. We work with some of the best known brands on the high street to create stores that embody their cultural ethos and values, from ensuring maximum kerb appeal to the right lighting and finishes on the shop floor. It is here, where the consumer meets the products in person, that the brand becomes a reality; focused and respondent to the needs of society.

must be pitched perfectly to support and enhance

retailers’ offerings.”

Everything changes. We have designed and delivered over 5 million square feet of retail developments where retailers can change regularly. The ability to respond to these changes keeps our clients’ assets fresh and lucrative. We build the same flexibility into our shopping and town centres so that they continue to attract new visitors every day.

“Any significant new retail development must now be adaptable to meet the constant demands of new customers and tenants.”

Today’s consumer is a demanding one. Brands are having to innovate constantly to keep up with the continually changing requirements of the public. A successful shopping centre must have something for everyone and offer a wide variety of choice.

Having worked with Marks & Spencer to develop their first 3 trial eco-stores in the UK, we understand responsible retail design. We also know that byusing the latest renewable energy technologies, passive controls and sustainable thinking we can make shopping centres that are more self sufficient. With in-house BREEAM assessors and LEED and Estidama experts, we can build in intelligent, sensitive design from day one. This also leads to more efficient developments that save owners and operators money and keep ever more environmentally conscious shoppers confident that their retail destination choice won’t compromise their ethics.

“You can’t design an ‘environmentally friendly’ shopping centre, but you can lessen its impact on the earth’s resources.”
