The Greeks invented athletic contests , they held them in honor of their gods.

The ancient Olympic games seem to have begun in the early 700 BC, in honor of Zeus.

No women were allowed to watch the Olympic games and only Greek nationals could participate.

The two main grains that ancient Greece ate were wheat and barley.

The ancient Greece ate fruit and vegetables like: cabbage, onions, lentils, sweet peas, chickpeas, broad beans, garden peas, and grass peas.

The Greeks bred quails and hens, partly for their eggs to eat.

Some of the Greek gods and goddesses are, Aphrodite the Goddess of love, romance, and beauty.

More are, Ares the Dark god of war who loves Aphrodite. Zeus the Supreme lord of gods, god of the sky, symbolized by the thunderbolt.

Entertainment

At parties in Greece for entertainment they would have someone play the lyre or flute.

They would watch woman dance or tell stories.

At the Greek theater there were plays shown. But these plays were more than acting a story these acts had a meaning.

Every time Ancient Greece went out to fight the fought for there own glory.

The battles usually start with taunts and jeers, followed by duels between the Champions.

The Greek warriors carried spears in their right hands and shields strapped to their left.

Greek cities relied on the farmland around them for the bulk of their food supplies, though cities with good trade links could add to their local produce by importing food.

Ancient Greece was far from the united states so they only traded with the places close to them.
