A citizen is a person with rights, duties and responsibilities under a government.

Vocabulary

Rights- Legal guarantees under a government.

Duties- Things that someone is expected to do.

Responsibilities- Things that someone may choose to do, but still important to being a good citizen.

B. Who is a citizen of the U.S.?

Anyone born in the United States or a territory of the United states.

Anyone who had at least one parent who was a United States citizen when they were born.

Some people choose to be less active in their citizen role.

These people contribute to the common good through volunteering, donating money to charities, or working in jobs that help people.

Each person will have a different way of approaching this.
