Rights- Legal guarantees under a government.

Duties- Things that someone is expected to do.

Responsibilities- Things that someone may choose to do, but still important to being a good citizen.

Anyone born in the United States or a territory of the United states.

Anyone who had at least one parent who was a United States citizen when they were born.

You have been naturalized.

A person who wants to become a citizen fills out a form and submits it to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

In order to become a citizen, the applicant must prove the following things: Be at least 18 years old Live in the country for at least 5 years Have good moral character (No criminal

record) Be loyal to the Constitution Read, write and speak English Have a knowledge of history and government

last 3 are a bit more complicated. Let’s look at them more closely.

J. Social Group Member

People choose to be members of social groups.

Examples could be clubs, organizations, or teams.

K. Citizen Role

Some people choose to be active participants in their citizen role.

Active participants can run for office, attend political meetings, and vote.

Some people choose to be less active in their citizen role.

These people contribute to the common good through volunteering, donating money to charities, or working in jobs that help people.
