Singapore Market Analysis• About Singaporeans' habits

• Gadget as online commodity

• Possible reasons for reluctancy to purchase gadget online

Singaporeans' Habits• "Everywhere I go, I bet there is a smartphone user within radius

• Singaporeans rely on their gadgets for many of their activities such as:o Checking location of a placeo Finding new informationo Networkingo Online Shopping, etc

• According to Market Research Society Singapore, 25% of Singaporeans with spare cash will spend their money on New Technology gadgets. This ranks fourth after savings (60%), holidays/vacations (49%), fashion (29%), and loans (28%)

• As per December 2011, there were approximately 3,658,400 internet users in Singapore (represents 77.2% of the total population). From this figures, 48.3% spend 4-8 hours, 19.8% spend less than 4 hours, 16.9% spent 9-12 hours, 7.5% spent 13-16 hours, and the remaining spent more than 16 hours of online activity per day

Gadget as Online Commodity• According to TechInAsia, in 2010, IT/Electronics contributed for

11% (S$117 million) from the total of all Singapore online purchases, fourth rank right after travelling (28% share, S$307 million), fashion/beauty (13% share, S$146 million), and Entertainment/Lifestyle (13% share, S$143 million).

• There are still minimum number of well-structured online gadget shops in Singapore. Mostly, gadgets and accessories are sold via blog or online marketplace (e.g. GMarket Singapore) which are less structured and unpredictable credibility level

• The most common online gadget commodity is smartphone casing due to the low risk for buyers and sellers

Possible Reasons for Reluctancy• Expensive delivery fee (which might cost the buyer to pay 10%

extra as compared to buying in physical gadget shops)

• Confusion about the seller's credibility (the buyer needs to bear the risk of not getting the item after making the payment)

• No on-demand product knowledge, review, or reference (physical gadget shops have salespersons who assist customers' queries)

• No touch-and-feel of the gadget itself (as compared to physical gadget shops which might provide display set to try)
