Phase I(0 to 2 Years)
The proposed pavement markings is the first step to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety and establish a precedent of change in the proposed site. Pavement markings improve clear traffic lanes delineation and establish parking locations. At the intersection traffic calming design methodologies such as painted sidewalk extensions should be part of Phase I. The painted sidewalk extension decreases the amount of time it takes to cross the street allocating more time for senior citizens and children to cross the intersections safely. In order to increase pedestrian safety the following design strategies shall be followed:• Painted sidewalk extensions shall have
bollards or other type of safety device to prevent automobile getting into the marked area.
• Introduce parking meters on Missouri Ave NW, Kennedy Street and 2ND Street.
• Kennedy NW Street and 2ND Street crosswalk should be marked with high visible white markings.
• Bicycle boxes and share the road pavement marking shall be painted along these streets.
• High visible pedestrian and bicycle signs shall be installed along Missouri Ave NW, Kennedy Street, and 2ND Street.

Manor Park Neighborhood Urban Park
Proposal The proposed urban park is located in the diverse and dynamic Southwest section of Manor Park Neighborhood at Missouri Ave NW, Kennedy Street and 2ND Street in the District of Columbia. The future park development will increase sense of place and serve as a common node for small community gatherings. The proposed vision is divided in three incremental development phases. The intention is to create economically tangible development that will be sensitive to existing conditions, current traffic pattern, and gradually build the park in a span of ten years. The proposed development phasing will entice stakeholders, business owners, visitors and residents to adapt to new traffic pattern changes, and increase pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Overall the proposed urban park will serve the great purpose of invigorating Manor Park Neighborhood and create a place for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Roadway Section CWhile on-street parking is permitted on these thoroughfares, this area lacks defined pavement markings. The lack of prominent pavement marking creates an illusion of wider traffic lanes; consequently, higher speed may be occurring when parked cars are not present. Phase I prescribes that all thoroughfares pavement should be marked and signalized with pedestrian and bicyclist post signs, highly visible crosswalks, bike boxes, and share road pavement markings should be part of the mix to ensure pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

Phase II (2 to 6 Years)This phase introduce parklike amenities while maintaining current traffic pattern. In order to establish an urban park the following design strategies shall be followed:• New dining tables and sitting on left concrete island- all
introduce if new restaurants open in close proximity to the site (See plan view and inspirational photo number 1 on page).
• Art pavement should be introduced on Kennedy Street (See plan view and inspirational photo number 2 on page). It is recommended that this project should be a community gathering activity.
• Painted sidewalk extensions should become concrete curbs, ramps, and sidewalk extensions. All roadway improvement must follow the District of Columbia’s DDOT engineering standards for concrete curbs and ramps.
• Existing lawn should be increase on east concrete island while maintaining a minimum concrete sidewalk width establish by DDOT.
• New tree canopy should be introduced along Missouri Ave NW, Kennedy Street and 2ND Street. (See Phase II plan view)

Phase III (6 to 10 Years)This phase is the ultimate vision for the urban park. Since existing concrete islands are joined as one, cars heading southbound will only be allowed to turn left at 2ND Street and Missouri intersection. The following design strategies should be followed on this phase:• Existing lawn should be increase on east concrete Island
and on new constructed park extension while maintaining a minimum concrete sidewalk width establish by DDOT.
• Introduce stage on west side of the urban park (See Phase III plan view and inspirational picture number 3). Note: Community should agree on the type of stage, architectural style, or size that will serve better the neighborhood’s vision.
• A concrete area should be constructed in front of the proposed stage location. It would be beneficial if the concrete area is visually appealing and inspirational (See Phase III plan view and inspirational picture number 4).
