Context.HOW & WHAT: Using design interventions to inspire new maker communities in Aarhus

WHY: Empowerment, strong local communities & democracy

POTENTIAL: Making the libraries into hubs for makers – extending the activities that go on in libraries

The project. We experiment with using various design interventions to bridge users from a specialized hobby community (hacking electronics) and everyday users of the public library in order to inspire new and unsuspected maker activities and communities.

The design process. In our case the local hacker lab, Open Space Aarhus, took seat and made a month long workshop at the city’s main library – literally living out and by example producing the vision of merging practice based, technical and academic based knowledge.
