Sprout Lab works with organisations to design learning ecosystems that accelerate expertise

What we do

• re-thinking compliance training

• digital learning and the 70-20-10 learning model

• the application of design thinking to learning

• new approaches to authoring digital learning

• emerging trends in tracking and recording.

We will discuss …

Why don’t we get the results we expect from digital learning?Your thoughts …

I really wanted to shift our employees’ mindset around compliance.

$

In past L&D has been organisation centred

Beyond compliance to personal leadership

Beyond compliance to personal leadership

Blended approach

Re-accreditation is an opportunity to practicebuilt around complex scenarios

What other approaches have you seen to compliance training?

We want to improve how we are using digital learning and the 70:20:10 model.

• Learning design frameworks

• Toolkits to help people design and

develop in a consistent way

70:20:10 eco-systems

Design thinking has helped us refocus our learning program and build solutions that are creating real change.

Design thinking is about applying the same principles that designers use to business processes and practices.

Process

Being in the shoes of the learner

Traditional learning and design approaches Design thinking

Learner is seen as a stakeholder Learner centred – the learner pathway is put at the centre

Process is premised on developing a course or other intervention

Process doesn’t define an outcome

Good at solving well-defined problems Solves ill-defined problems

Imports approaches from other organisations Builds new approaches that solve problems in new ways

Cycles, e.g. beta, pilot, implementation Iterative, with the bias towards action and prototyping

Focus on approving and reviewing content Collaborative, solutions are co-designed

Event and content driven Process driven

A single solution is piloted Experimentation and testing and data defines the best solution

What are the barriers to design thinking in your L&D team?

This also changing how we author digital learning.

Digital learning development is collaborative

Cloud authoring

• Increasing collaboration

• Faster and increased agility

• The review processes are easier

We now storyboard directly into our authoring system. This has some pro’s and con’s

Everyone expects everything to work on mobile devices

Responsive design approaches are the solution

Also our learners want short learner experiences – microlearning

What has an overhead projector got to do with most eLearning?

The future of digital learning is scrolling pages

Our learners hate our LMS.

• Adding a second platform

• Building portals

• Built in Wordpress, Silverstripe,

Sharepoint

• Based more on web design practices

But what about tracking?

• Assessments are in an LMS

• Google analytics gives people what

they need

• Tracking outcomes e.g. increased sales

What are you thoughts about how VR could be used in L&D?

Thank you for your participation!
