What is social media?
According to Wikipedia: Social media is online content created by people … transforming
monologues (one to many) into dialogues (many to many) and is the democratization of information, transforming people from content readers into publishers. it allows people to connect in the online world to form relationships for personal, political and business use. Businesses also refer to social media as user-generated content (UGC) or consumer-generated media (CGM).
Social media are distinct from industrial media, such as newspapers, television, and film. While social media are relatively inexpensive and accessible tools that enable anyone (even private individuals) to publish or access information, industrial media generally require significant resources to publish information.

Reference: Twitter@, DM, RT # - 140 Characters Imagine being at a party and say something to no one in
particular, that’s a regular tweet Going to someone at a party and tapping them on the
shoulder and talking directly to them is the same as @username – can send to anyone
Whispering in someone’s ear at the party, that’s a D (direct message) D username (space between)
Same party, you hear something that you really like, so you repeat it to no one in particular at the party –that’s a RT or retweet but you are telling everyone whom you heard, it from so it would be RT@Username and the message: RT @kfcatoe: Register now for Inbound Marketing University!
