Millions of fliers could have to buy new
luggage if an airline industry
recommendation for smaller carry-on
bags takes hold. The trade group that
represents most of the world's big
airlines issued the recommendation on
Tuesday, calling it part of an "initiative
to optimize the accommodation of
carry-on bags.“
The goal, the International Air
Transport Association (IATA) says, is
two-fold. A standard maximum
allowance for carry-on bags would
streamline restrictions that currently
vary by airline. A carry-on allowed by
one airline, for example, could be
stopped at the gate by another.

Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) and Travel Agents
Association of India (TAAI) have deferred the joint bank
guarantee scheme after doing in-depth due diligence.
Confirming this, Pradip Lulla, National General
Secretary, TAFI, says, “We have deferred this because
some of the legal terms were not suitable for our
members. We are not happy with the unlimited liability
that they have mentioned. In all fairness, the liability to
our members cannot exceed the bank guarantee. It
should be a fixed amount. What IATA is asking is
detrimental to our members. We will be taking it up at
the APJC meeting that will be held soon and asking IATA
to revise some of the terms.”
Marzban Antia, Hon Treasurer, TAAI, echoes this
sentiment. He says, “There are certain terms and
conditions that were not in the interest of our members
participating in this, specifically the unlimited liability
term. TAAI has therefore deferred the joint bank
guarantee scheme until IATA clarifies and amends these
terms.”

Travelers rely on a range of information sources, but websites via computer were the most common, with 54% of travelers going online to search and shop. There was also a huge uptake for Indian holiday and packages and nearly 40% travelers were likely to shop via Smartphone, underlining the substantial influence mobile websites and applications are having on travel planning.
Over half of Indian travelers
look actively online
“With so much time spent researching online, especially for holidays,
travelers are increasingly getting convinced that they are also paying
online,” said Phocuswright’s research analyst, Asia Pacific, Chetan Kapoor.
“Indian travelers use the best of both worlds to shop and book their
travels, especially when it’s their most significant leisure trip of the year.”
An analysis of payment methods, however, indicates that nearly four out
of 10 prepackaged holiday travelers used an online payment method.
While payment distinction is important within the travel industry, travelers
themselves are often unclear on what constitutes an online booking.
