Smith Fork Ranch offers a unique luxurious horseback riding vacation.  We have a stable full of strong, well-trained horses and endless miles of riding trails on the ranch and surrounding national forest and wilderness.

Fly Fishing

There is nothing quite like fly fishing in the Colorado Rockies.   Smith Fork Ranch is uniquely blessed with three miles of its own river ….five stocked trout ponds….a mountain stream that is one of only two natural habitats in the state for the rare A-strain Colorado Cutthroat trout.   And on top of that, SFR sits closer to more Gold Medal fishing water than any other 5 star destination in Colorado.

This National Conservation Area lies just downstream of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and features spectacular scenery, interesting geology, sightings of varied wildlife, and most importantly excellent fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout. Trophy rainbows measuring 20”+ are the prize of the “Gunny”. The Gunnison River holds more fish per mile than any other river in the state. The latest data showed 8,779 fish per mile.

For the ultimate in fly-fishing, a day on “the Gunny” is not to be missed. The Gunnison River is a world-renowned, gold medal trout fishery. A float through the steep walled Gunnison Gorge is recognized as one of the top fly fishing trips in the lower 48.
