Page 12: Parent meeting 5.26.11 by hanna

“Mail Call” and Homesickness

• Parents ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CRY ON THE PHONE!!!

• If your child calls home and is upset, your first question should be, “Have you talked to your Leader about this?”

• It’s best for delegates to call home during our morning hours. It’s convenient for everyone, and not during bed time when students are tired and more likely to be weepy.

Hotel Safety• Once you are sent to your room at the end of the

day, you shut and lock the door and do not come out until breakfast.

• Room checks will be done nightly by leaders. All students will be seen by at least one leader.

• Always have your journal with you.• Know who has your room key and lock your door

when you leave your room.

Page 33: Parent meeting 5.26.11 by hanna

Hotel Safety• Always ask “Who is it?” before opening the door.• Do not open your door to anyone but roommates

and Leaders.• Always use the peep-hole.• Report issues to your leaders.• Write down the room numbers of your leaders

each new place you stay.• Write down the emergency meeting place outside

the hotel in case there is a fire alarm.

Page 34: Parent meeting 5.26.11 by hanna

Money Matters

• $20 US for plane ride to Paris• $20 US for plane ride home• P2P suggests $20 US per day• Don’t carry all of your money

in one place• Make a budget before you go

Page 35: Parent meeting 5.26.11 by hanna

Money Matters

• VISA debit cards work best– Ask your bank– SIGN your card – Put your first and last name on

the front of your card with a permanent marker

– Know how to use it at an ATM

Phones, Phone Calls & Electronics

• Do not bring what you cannot afford to lose

• Do not share phones• Phones, travel alarm clocks,

cameras, and iPod/music player are all that are permitted

• No electronic games

Page 50: Parent meeting 5.26.11 by hanna

Phones, Phone Calls & Electronics

• All of these items are considered a privilege. They may be taken if abused and not returned until bedtime. (We will not take a camera.)

• Many electronics are “isolating”. We are on this mission to get your parents’ moneys worth out of this program and to encourage all of you to interact with each other.

Page 51: Parent meeting 5.26.11 by hanna

Phones, Phone Calls & Electronics

• Phone calls should be kept to a minimum.

• No news is good news!• Phone calls can intensify homesickness• The leaders are not experts of your

child’s phone.
