This lake is situated at the elevation of 5,029 mts above sea level in Utrakhand at the base of Trishul peak andNanda Ghunti named as ‘Roopkund’. It is one of the most mysterious places in the world. At the bottom of the seayou can find around 200 human skeletons.

It was discovered in 1942 by Britishsolders who initially thought thatthose bones belonged to Japanesesolders, who were trying to attackIndia secretly, using the route ofHimalayas, but they died due to badweather.

But when researchers started finding the answers, they came up with various theories, and denied that thosewere not Japanese solders because the age of skeleton, hair and the clothes were much older.
The local legend says that king of Kanauj, Raja Jasdhaval, with his pregnant wife Rani Balampa, servants, dancetroupe and others went on a pilgrimage to Nanda Devi shrine and the group faced a hail storm with largehailstones, from which the entire party perished near Roopkund lake
Research gave us many theories including a ritual suicide but none of them were authenticated, but laterscientists found out that these skeletons were 1200 years old.
Also there is a fatal blow on the back of the head, they might have got hit by an object resembling a cricket ball.Apart from shoulder and head, none of the body parts have any injury., According to them, this was the group oftravelers and local people, who were actually Konkanastha Brahmins (Chitpavans) from Maharashtra.
