SUMMARY

IntroductionThe airline business is one of the most competitive

industries within the economic environment,Moreover and as a consequence, the airline industry

is a particular case in point incorporating as it does distinctive industry features that are linked with continuous change.

Now with the accelerating use of the Internet, the airline industry is forced to move into another stage of corporate evolution.

The Internet as a sales channel for tickets was promoted as highly promising, but at that time, little academic research was published about the potential of Business-to-Business practices over the Internet.

International sales indicators(ISI) are used in fare quote and ticketing to indicate sold and ticketed information.

The ISI information indicates the relationship between the point of sale, point of ticketing, and the country of commencement of travel for the itinerary.

These indicators determine if certain fare construction principles are required. As of 15 January 2005, the ISI codes will no longer appear in pricing responses, on e-tickets, or paper tickets.

INTERNATIONAL SALES INDICATORES

In an effort to start simplifying the pricing process, fare construction rules that referred to International Sale Indicators (ISIs) had to be amended so that the fare calculation formula and accompanying minimum checks remain

One set of fare construction rules worldwide (except in USA, where we have mostly accepted the SITI and SOTO rules)the same regardless of where a ticket is purchased.

PREPAID TICKET ADVICE (PTA)Most airlines recognize that there are an occasion when

an individual or company desires to makes flight arrangement and pay for an airlines ticket that the actual travelling passengers will pick up at the origin point of the city.

The prepaid ticket advice permits air travel arrangement to be established and prepaid at a travel agent with actual flight coupon issuance by airline at the origin city airport.

This is simply a notification by teletype, commercial wire or mail that a person in one city (purchaser o sponsor) has requested the issuance of prepaid transportation to another person(s) (passenger) in another city. The use of the PTA permits the issuance o a ticket at a point other than the point of payment.

PTA is Prepaid Ticket Advice. When a ticket is sold in one

city and ticketed in another city it is known as a PTA ticket.

Prepaid Ticket Advice a form used when purchasing an

air ticket to be picked up and used by someone else at another

airport. E-tickets have reduced the need for this greatly.

However his chooses to buy his ticket from a travel agent in city

for the ticket in 'C' through a representative. But the ticket is

collected by the passenger in 'A'.

SUMMARY

The new rules in effect remove the International Sale Indicators for point of sale in ticket issuance e.g. SITI (sold inside ticketed inside the country of origin). They also remove certain fare checks for directional minimum and reduce the scope of the higher intermediate point (HIP) check.

Given this background, effective 15 January 2005, new fare construction rules apply which no longer involve the use of International Sale Indicators (SITI/SOTI/SITO/SOTO). In addition to deleting the ISI references, the Country of Unit Origin Minimum check (COM) no longer applies. Moreover, the Higher Intermediate Point (HIP) check diminishes in scope as it only covers fares to/from intermediate stopover points.
