SLS Las Vegas to open Labor Day weekend The SLS Las Vegas, formerly the Sahara hotel on the north Las Vegas Strip (approx. 1 mile north of the Wynn/Encore), will open its $415 million rebranding over Labor Day Weekend 2014, just over three years after the former Las Vegas staple was closed after 59 years. Los Angeles-based SBE owns the new casino hotel through a partnership with private equity firm Stockbridge Capital Group. “It’s been an incredible journey these past years and I’m proud and humbled by some big news — SLS Las Vegas is officially opening Labor Day Weekend 2014,” CEO Sam Nazarian posted on the company’s website. The new property will feature 1,600 hotel rooms and an “ultramodern” style based on Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip. Unlike other Las Vegas operations, SBE will own and operate all of its dining and entertainment venues (vs. licensed-out operations further south on the Strip), which will include The Bazaar by Jose Andres, Katsuya by Starck, Umami Burger, The Sayers Club and 800 Degrees. Nazarian added that SLS Las Vegas’ primary feeder market will be Southern California, where SBE operates sixty restaurants and nightclubs; also noting that the company’s customer database and loyalty program could have as many as 5 million names by the time SLS Las Vegas opens.
