    Awakening the

    Genius Within

People just like you have learned tofunction at lower brain frequencies withawareness. You achieve this in just hoursof practicing the mind-training exercisesin the Silva Method.

Independent scientific studies havedemonstrated that alpha brainwave ac-tivity is associated with inner levels ofmental awareness, tranquility, rest andrelaxation. This alpha activity is also as-sociated with inspiration, creativity, ac-celerated healing, concentration, learn-

    ing and psychic abilities.

By learning to function with awarenessat the deeper alpha frequency, you willmanage your internal state, thereby al-lowing you to focus your thinking, findsolutions quickly and manifest yourgoals. At the same time, you developand build your creative side. Eventu-ally, you awaken your intuitive, psychicawareness and learn to sense valuableinformation through other than your five

physical senses. This subjective func-tioning will change your life.

The key to awakening the genius withinis to develop creative, intuitive thinking, with a refined awareness, allowing youto function at your best.

You can use what you learn in this mindexpanding training to more effectivelysolve problems in your life and on this

    planet.

With practice, you can enhance yournew abilities and skills and make posi-tive changes in your health, personalgrowth, emotional well-being and pros-perity. You can make your world a betterplace in which to live.

    Goals

What do you want to accomplish? Ev-erything is possible. However, first youmust set clearly defined goals.

In this space, write specific goals. Choosesomething that is desirable, believable, and can be experienced with your sens-es and emotions.

    History

The Silva Method of mind developmentis the first how-to program designed tohelp people learn to function at the al-pha frequencies. In this state, people areable to use the best qualities of thinkingwith their creative side, the right brainhemisphere, yet maintain their logicaland rational perspective, qualities attrib-uted to the left-brain hemisphere.

Research to develop the Silva Methodbegan in Laredo, Texas, in 1944. JoséSilva’s original purpose was to find ways

to help his children improve their abilityto concentrate and remember lessons. With those developed abilities, theylearned more and made better grades.Eventually, the research led to the cre-ation of a program that helped millionsof people worldwide change their livesfor the better.

Practicing the Silva Method exercisesand techniques, and learning to applythem effectively to your daily living ex-

perience helps you do even more to im-prove your life.

    Research Produces Surprising Results

From 1944 to 1953, Mr. Silva workedwith his children, and achieved evenmore than his original goals. Besideslearning to relax, concentrate better andimprove memory, they also began to de-velop their intuitive faculty.

During the next ten years, Mr. Silvaworked with thirty-nine more researchsubjects—children and adults—andtrained them to be more intuitive. In theyears that followed, he trained groups oftwenty in various combinations of age

and gender. During this time, he wasperfecting the Silva Method.

    The Word Spreads

In 1966, a group of artists in Amarillo,Texas, who heard him speak, asked ifhe would share his research with them;thus, the first public Silva Method pro-gram was presented.

For two years, Mr. Silva was the onlylecturer. By 1968 he certified the first

Silva lecturer, Nelda Sheets, who was apart of the Amarillo group. Then in 1969other lecturers, one in particular beingHarry McKnight, joined him and the Sil-va Method began to spread. The SilvaMethod was first taught throughout theUnited States, then to other countries.

In the years since, the Silva Method hasbeen presented to people in scores ofcountries and has been translated into

dozens of languages as diverse as Span-ish, Mandarin, French, Korean, Italian,Japanese, Greek, Russian, Portuguese, and many more.

The Silva Method program can help you just as it has helped millions of others. The only requirements are that you fol-low instructions for learning to enter in-ner levels of conscious awareness andpractice the exercises and techniquesfrequently and on a regular basis.

    Concepts

Scientific research over the last severaldecades has revealed that the most suc-cessful people use their minds differentlythan the average person. They use moreof their mind potential and use it in aspecial manner. The Silva Method showsyou how to use more of your mind in apositive and creative manner. Let us takea look now at what science has learned.

Your brain is composed of approximately100 billion neurons. Neurons functionby continuously firing energy and then

resting. The number of times per sec-ond that they fire and rest is called theirfrequency. Your brain’s many neuronsare always pulsing at some frequency.Throughout your entire brain, differentsets of neurons are firing at differentfrequencies. When you are in deep sleep, most of your neurons pulse very slowly. They pulse more rapidly when you are ina light level of sleep where dreams takeplace. When you are wide awake, theypulse even more rapidly.

When you are wide awake, looking atthings and thinking logically, the predom-inant brain-pulsing frequency is abouttwenty cycles per second. This meansthat the average of all pulsing frequen-cies is about twenty cycles per second.Scientists call this the beta brainwavefrequency. When you are very relaxedin a light level of sleep, your predomi-nant brainwave frequency is slower and

is between seven and fourteen cycles, per second. Scientists call this the al-pha brainwave level. Still slower brain-wave frequencies exist and are knownas theta and delta, with delta being theslowest and involving the deepest levelsof sleep.

    How Humans Develop

Before birth, your brain and central ner-vous system begin to develop. The firstfrequencies detected are delta frequen-cies. Eventually the brain is completed, and so are all of the various sensingmechanisms that bring information tothe brain and the body.

We learn to use our brains in develop-mental stages. Infants, below the ageof four, function in delta more than anyother frequency. Delta is associated withdeep sleep; infants sleep much of the

    time.

As children grow, they begin to use moreof the brain frequency spectrum andfaster frequencies. From four to sevenyears, children function mostly in thetheta levels—inductively.

About the time a child reaches age seven, there is a shift of brain functioning and ahigher range of brain frequencies is usedmore than the others. This is the alpha

level, which children use extensively fromseven to fourteen years of age. Duringthis developmental stage children arevery imaginative and learn very rapidly. The alpha frequency is where the great-est brain energy is, right in the centerof the brain frequency spectrum. Thechild’s brain now functions deductivelyat alpha.

As children enter their teenage years, an

interesting phenomenon begins to takeplace; the use of beta brain frequen-cies, associated with the left brain hemi-sphere and the objective mode of con-sciousness, becomes predominant. Mostpeople think and function throughout lifeusing primarily one mode of conscious-ness.

It is believed that a small percentage ofhumanity grows to maturity being able

to think using two modes of conscious-ness, the rational, objective mode ofconsciousness, as well as the intuitive, subjective mode of consciousness, asso-ciated with the right hemisphere of thebrain.

Attributes of the left-brain hemisphereare associated with logical thought, andexperiences in the physical world. It isthought to be dominant. The left-brain

hemisphere stores your experiencesof what you see, hear, smell, taste andfeel.

The right-brain hemisphere is more visu-al and processes intuitively, holistically, and randomly. It stores all experiences, whether real or imagined.

Young children use their imaginationenormously. As people mature, they areso involved in learning all they can about

the physical world around them andgrow to use less imagination throughtime. They may develop the left-brain

hemisphere at the expense of devel-oping and thinking with the right-brain

    hemisphere.

As an adult, you have the potential to usemore of your brain.

Most people, after reaching the age offourteen, no longer use the alpha brain-wave frequency consciously. When theirbrainwave activity slows to the alphalevel, they drift off into a daydream or goto sleep. These people have learned to

use primarily the left-brain hemisphere. They have limited use of their brain forthinking.

    Whole-braininking

How can you improve your ability bylearning to use the potential of bothsides of the brain? To begin with, usingonly one side of the brain to think withwould be something like trying to dance

with one leg. You can do much betterwith two legs.

It is the same with learning to use bothsides of the brain. You have much morethan twice the ability. Outstanding peoplein every field are among the ten percentof humanity who developed the ability touse both brain hemispheres. When youlearn to use both sides of your brain ef-fectively you, too, will have much moreability than before.

The left hemisphere of the brain is logical. This is very useful and important at cer-tain times, while at other times it gets inthe way. It is the left-brain hemispherethat knew many years ago that no onecould build a machine that could fly. Noone had ever done it, so it was logical to

    believe that nobody ever would.

The brain’s right hemisphere is not lim-ited by logic. This hemisphere is creative, intuitive, not time or space oriented, andworks on mental impressions. This brainhemisphere is very powerful in helpingyou get what you want. Having faith thatyou can manifest it keeps your left-brainhemisphere from interjecting doubts.

To use the right-brain hemisphere forthinking, you must learn to slow your

brainwave activity to the alpha level asthough you were once again betweenthe ages of seven and fourteen. Thenyou need to practice using the sensingfaculties while at level.

If we were to draw a chart of the waywe develop the use of our brain, it wouldlook like a “Y.” The base of the columnwould represent the slowest frequencies, those frequencies that infants use, andthose that adults use in deepest sleep.

Where the top of the column joins thebottom of the “Y” represents a personapproximately ten years old who canfunction at the alpha level consciouslywithout going to sleep. The upper partof the “Y” represents the cerebrum, thepart of our brain that consists of twochambers or lobes, the left and the righthemispheres.

By functioning at the alpha level—tencycles per second brain frequency—youcan use either the left side of the “Y,”which represents the left-brain hemi-sphere, or the right side of the “Y,” whichrepresents the right-brain hemisphere.

After reaching full maturity, you moveinto functioning at the faster beta brain-

wave frequencies. Growing up using pri-marily the left-brain hemisphere limits

your ability to start using the right sideunless you first learn to slow your brain-waves to the alpha level and maintainawareness.

Once you learn to consciously slow yourbrain frequencies to the alpha level, youcan then begin to learn to use and in-tegrate the right side of your brain withthe left.

The Silva Method teaches you to use thealpha frequency consciously. You learnto combine the benefits of utilizing bothhemispheres to reach a higher level ofawareness and therefore achieve yourgoals more easily. The Silva Method canhelp you in all areas of your life. For ex-ample: You can improve your health andmemory, learn more rapidly, do betterin business, increase your earning abil-ity, improve relationships, find love andhappiness and much more.

     The Secret of Success

Almost certainly, successful people be-long to those who have the ability tothink using both sides of the brain.

The combined power of both brain hemi-spheres at the alpha level together withgreater concentration sets and getsgoals. When you persist in working to-

wards your goals, their realization comescloser.

The first step is to reach the alpha levelwith conscious awareness. By practicingcontrolled relaxation you become confi-dent that you can achieve an alpha stateany time you desire.

Meditation describes a state of concen-trated attention on some thought or

object of awareness. It usually involvesturning the attention inward. Medita-tion is often recognized as a compo-nent of Eastern religions, where it hasbeen practiced for over 5,000 years. Itis now mainstream in Western culture. It encompasses any of a wide varietyof spiritual practices which emphasizemental activity or quiescence. Medita-tion can be used for personal develop-ment, or to focus the mind on God, anaspect of God, or to achieve peace.

Meditation is usually defined as:! a state of relaxed concentra-tion on the reality of the presentmoment;! a state that is experiencedwhen the mind dissolves and isfree of all thoughts;! concentration in which the at-tention has been liberated fromrestlessness;! focusing the mind on a singleobject, such as a religious stat-

ue, or one’s breath, or a mantra;! invoking the guidance of ahigher power

Meditation may be for a religious pur-pose, but even before being brought tothe West it was used in secular con-texts, such as the martial arts. Begin-ning with theosophists, meditation hasbeen employed by a number of reli-gious and spiritual movements, suchas yoga and the New Age movement,as well as limited use in Christianity.

Initially, you use a specific routine untilyou gain enough experience to function

at the alpha level. Later, you achieve thebenefits of alpha functioning without go-ing through the deep relaxation process.

It is important that you learn to concen-trate and maintain your attention. If youare distracted when you practice yourmental exercises, recognize the distrac-tion, and then bring your attention backto the exercise.

Allow yourself to relax. If you sense ten-sion take a moment to breathe deeplyand rhythmically. In the subjective world, you attract what you want. Keep yourmind focused on what you desire.

    Mental Housecleaning

Positive thinking means thinking andtalking about the things you desire.Negative thinking is thinking and talkingabout the things you do not desire. Posi-tive thinking is an extremely importantaspect of the Silva Method as well as lifein general.

Every time you say words such as, “Ican’t..., I don’t want..., but…, try…,should…, or have to…,” you are engagedin negative thinking. Such thinking is likea photographic negative. It is just the

opposite of the positive picture you de-sire. Our consciousness needs informa-tion of what you desire in order to bringabout positive results. Focusing on thenegative has the potential to bring nega-tive results.

Avoid such phrases as, “That makes mesick,” “I can’t see that,” “It burns meup,” “He gives me a headache,” “A painin the neck,” and so on. Those createpictures of what you do not desire. If you

happen to use such a phrase, then say “Cancel, cancel” to eliminate the nega-tive. Most importantly, rephrase yourstatement, or reprogram yourself with apositive statement, word or mental pic-ture congruent to your desired outcome.

Use positive statements about beinghealthy, being in control, being blessed.Remember to take every opportunityto use the phrase, “Every day, in every

way, I’m getting better and better.” Usethis phrase as a trigger to remind you tocount your blessings, stay on track andreaffirm those things you desire. It willmake a big difference in your life.

Recognition First, you must rec-ognize that the thought youare expressing is not to yourbenefit.

Cancel, Cancel  Second, you needto cancel the negative thought

    or statement.

Substitution Third, you substitutewith an alternative thought orstatement that is in line withwhat you want.

    Belief System Called Faith

A belief system such as faith is madeup of subjective energies such as desire, belief and expectancy, and is reinforcedthrough recognition, practice and appro-priate actions.

Desire is a motivating force. Such a forceenergizes us and pushes us towards ourgoals. To increase the strength of yourdesire, repeat mentally or verbally whatyou desire and write down all of the rea-sons you have for wanting your projectto succeed. Then enter your alpha level

and think of more reasons. Then rein-force your programming with images, thoughts and feelings of that which youdesire.

Desire is a subjective energy that can-not be measured physically, yet basedon your past experiences; you know howmuch desire you need to succeed.

Belief  is what sustains you between de-sire and expectancy. A belief sets the

boundaries of what you can accomplish. It is a statement you make to yourselfabout something you hold to be true andguides your living experience. In somecases, changing the belief statementchanges the living experience.

For example, changing the belief state-ment from, “I have so many problemsthat I’ll never be happy,” to “I will solvemy problems and create greater hap-

piness in my life,” has the potential ofchanging your living experience.

A good way to determine what you be-lieve you deserve is to notice how you

live. If your beliefs about life, love, health, happiness and abundance work for you,

then keep them. If not, change them.

Belief, like desire is a subjective energythat cannot be measured physically, yetbased on your past experiences; youknow how much belief you need in orderto succeed.

A strong belief system that works withan effective programming method re-sults in the reaching of goals and keeps

    you programming faithfully.

Believe in yourself and in your right tohave what you seek. Believe that thereis a solution to every problem. Believethat you have the potential to makegreat things happen. Believe that youare worthy. Believe you can.

Anything you can conceive, believe, andgenuinely desire, you can achieve whenyou apply your developed skills.

Expectancy   commits you to your out-come. It is a belief that what you desirewill manifest. It is very important to rec-ognize that the desired goal or situationfirst starts at the subjective dimensionand is already a reality in that dimension. It is then a matter of continuing to visu-alize the goal to help it manifest at yourphysical reality.

Expectancy, like desire and belief, is asubjective energy that cannot be mea-sured physically, yet based on your pastexperiences; you know how much ex-pectancy you need to succeed.

Recognition  of a belief working for oragainst you is a vital component ofa strong belief system. Keep the be-

liefs that work for you and consciouslychoose to change or eliminate those

    that do not.

Each of the mental exercises within theBasic Lecture Series is designed to helpyou achieve your goals and to strength-en the belief that you can make positivechanges in your life.

Practice  helps you maintain your win-ning belief system. Going to level dai-ly and applying the learned tools and

techniques gives you the opportunityto become well-acquainted with medi-tation, experience ongoing success andstrengthen your newfound positive be-liefs.

Action at the alpha and beta level isnecessary and must be congruent withyour goal. Do the appropriate actionsthat help, support and sustain you onyour desired path and demonstrate yourcommitment to the goal.

    e Brain

The average vibration of the adult’s brainwhen wide awake is normally abouttwenty cycles per second (or twentyhertz). Brain frequencies between four-teen and twenty-one hertz are referredto as beta brainwave activity, which isassociated with the outer objective world. The brain, while at beta, perceives andgets information through the use of theouter, physical senses, and is consciousof time and space. This relates to outerconscious levels of awareness.

Slower vibrations between seven andfourteen hertz are known as alpha brainwaves. This level is associated with cre-ativity, imagination, intuition and day-dreams. While at alpha, the mode ofthinking is dynamic. Human intelligencecan question, explore, deduce and cre-ate solutions to problems.

Frequencies between four and sevenhertz are called theta brain waves. Whileat theta, the mode of thinking is passive

and inductive. Human intelligence willtake in information but cannot questionand remain at theta at the same time. The moment one begins to question, thefrequency of brain moves higher into al-pha or beta.

Alpha and theta are not directly involvedwith the physical world nor physicalsenses. We are not necessarily aware oftime and space at this dimension. This is

the dimension where we can access ourintuition and use our subjective sensesto obtain information to help accomplishour goals. We relate this to inner con-scious levels of awareness.

This level of awareness, also known asthe subconscious, was said to dominateour thinking and behaviors as a result

The Scale of Brain Evolution chart isan illustration of our concepts aboutthe body, brain and mind. It is orga-nized both horizontally and vertically.Horizontally, the left side representsthe body; the center section, thebrain; the right side, the mind andmental functioning levels.

On the left, the scale marked withnumbers represents brain frequencyin cycles per second, called hertz.Vertically, it is organized into ranges

of brain wave frequency as identi-fied and named by various scien-tists: the beta, alpha, theta, anddelta frequency ranges, taken fromthe top.

The Scale of Brain Evolution Chartis set up in a vertical fashion withits two dimensional limitations. However, with the Silva Method wesay that you go “into,” not “downto” level, and come “out of,” not

The lower frequencies below four cyclesper second, which we reach during deepsleep, are called delta brainwave fre-quencies. It is said that few people areable to remember information when atdelta levels. Little is known about delta

    at this time.

The Scale of Brain Evolution chart wasdeveloped because it depicts severalthings regarding evolution and develop-ment. Scientists tell us that the humanbrain formed over millions of years. Itis a gradual process of adding parts tothe brain and reaching higher and higherfrequencies with a wider range of capa-bilities.

Eventually, humans mature, naturallydeveloping and using the faster frequen-cies, the beta levels.

    Two Worlds

We identify the beta frequencies with theuse of our outer senses and phenome-non that obey the general laws of spaceand time. The physical world consistsof everything we can perceive through

our senses including what is revealed byscientific and technological devices. Anyextension of those senses brings thephenomena it works on into this physi-cal world. We refer to the physical worldsynonymously as the outer world andthe objective world.

We identify the intangible world with the

alpha and theta levels of the mind, theuse of our inner senses and phenomenon

that operate according to very differentlaws of space and time than the outerworld. The intangible world consists ofall things not included after we have de-fined the extent of the physical world. Itincludes thought, emotion, extrasensoryperception, spirituality—virtually every-thing not belonging to our physical world. We refer to the intangible world synony-mously as the non-physical world, thespiritual world, the inner world and the

    subjective world.

    Function with ConsciousAwareness

One of the things you learn with the SilvaMethod is how to function consciously atthe alpha level. You also learn how to ac-cess the theta level to correct problemsthat are rooted there.

The basic plane level is shown on thechart as seven hertz but may lie any-where within the alpha range of seven tofourteen hertz. Your goal is to be able tofunction consciously and correct prob-lems while your brain functions at fre-quencies as slow as seven hertz. You canlearn to enter theta levels, four to sevenhertz, to access deep-rooted problems. However, when you become mentally

active to correct problems, the brain re-adjusts to approximately ten hertz.

The more you practice within the lowerfrequencies, the more you are able touse these frequencies with awareness. In addition, you are entering deeper lev-els of mind. When we talk about “deep-er levels of mind,” we are talking about

something that is not physical, and can-not be identified by physical measure-

ments. Your experience of a deeper levelof mind is very personal and completelysubjective. With time you will becomevery familiar with how you experience

     “deeper.”

How Old Programs Aff ect Us

Many childhood experiences are storedat very deep levels, and these experi-ences influence our behavior today. Forinstance, a child might be encouraged toeat everything on the plate and grow upto be big. This is fine for a child who isgrowing rapidly, running around and ex-pending a lot of energy. If an adult hasthat same program deep within, “Eat ev-erything, and get big,” but is not gettingany taller, and is not running around andburning energy there could be a prob-

lem if the old program is still running.

Were you ever told to study and makegood grades so you could be successfulin life? That is a program that equatesgrades with success in life. If your gradeswere average, then the program tendsto guide you to average success in life.

Not everybody who gets average gradeswinds up average. Not everybody keepsgrowing bigger and bigger. So the pro-grams can be changed. To change them,we can insert new instructions at thesame levels of brain frequencies whereold instructions are stored. Most people, without training, simply go to sleep whenthey slow their brain frequencies. Withthe Silva Method, you learn to reach

    The brain has many attributes,

such as the ability to learn languag-

es and think logically. It can store

experiences of the physical world ac-

    quired through our physical senses.

The brain is sequential and operates

within the well-known laws of space

and time, yet it also stores experi-

    ences of the subjective world.

    The human mind is phenomenally

    creative, inventive, and intuitive and

appears to be able to operate out-

side the known laws of space and

time. Many of these experiences are

acquired through the use of visual-

    ization and imagination and involve

    functioning in “nonlocality.”

    To be more specific, locality

means that isolated parts of any

    quantum mechanical system

    out of speed-of-light contact

with other parts of that system

    are allowed to retain definite

    relationships or correlations only

    through memory of previous

    contact. Nonlocality  means that,

    in quantum systems, correlations

    not possible through simple

    memory are somehow being

    enforced faster than light across

    space and time. Nonlocality,

peculiar though it may be, is

    a fact of quantum systems

    which has been repeatedly

    demonstrated in laboratory

    experiments.

lower frequencies, remain aware and al-ter old and unwanted programs.

When a child between seven and four-teen years of age is taught to use morewhole-brain thinking in order to utilizemore of their potential, then that abilityis retained as the person matures.

    A Larger Perspective

The architecture of our body is onewhere consciousness uses the brain asan information gathering tool and mindas a tuning faculty.

Through the brain, and the body’s sens-ing mechanism, our intelligence is ableto gather information for the use of solv-ing problems. The brain—being physicalin nature—abides by the usual laws ofspace and time and is limited to what it

    can perceive.

The mind is a focusing faculty of intelli-gence that attunes itself to and throughtime and space. In just the same waythat the eyes have a focusing faculty toattune vision to things far or near, throughthe mind, our consciousness can attuneitself to things far or near, past, presentor future, and cause the brain to functionat various frequencies.

When we want to meditate, through themind, we attune ourself to slower fre-quencies of the brain. When conscious-ness wants to be active, then throughthe mind, it attunes itself to the higherfrequencies of the brain.

Hypnosis has a long history from ancient

times to the present. Its current uses

have, for the most part, been scientifically

studied by a host of both practitioners andresearchers.

Hypnosis is a natural psychological pro-

cess in which critical thinking faculties of

the mind are bypassed and a type of selec-

tive thinking and perception is established.

    Although some individuals experience an

    increase in suggestibility and subjective

feelings of an “altered state of conscious-

ness,” this is not true for everyone. In fact,

some supposed hypnotic states can be

achieved by means of simple suggestions

or waking hypnosis, which increases thecontroversy about the hypnotic state.

Some theories of hypnosis attempt to

    describe hypnotic phenomena in terms

of brain activity while others concentrate

    more on the phenomenological experience.

In either case, a fundamental distinction

    exists between “state” and “non-state”

theories of hypnosis. State theorists be-

lieve that an altered state of consciousness

is a core part of hypnosis, whereas non-

state theorists believe that more mundane

psychological processes such as focusedattention and expectation are sufficient to

    explain hypnotic phenomena. The precise

definition of what constitutes an altered

    state of consciousness is debatable.

    One physiological definition of hypnosis

states that the brainwave level necessary

to work on issues such as smoking, weight

    management, reduction of phobias, sports

improvement, etc., is the alpha state.

    Another physiological definition states

that the theta state is required for thera-

peutic change. The theta state is associ-

ated with hypnosis for surgery, the use of

hypnosis to numb sensation of pain and

the use of hypnosis to decrease sensitiv-

ity to pain, which occur more readily in the

    theta and delta states.

    Reading, watching movies, and meditat-

ing may be also forms of hypnosis.Information excerpted from Wikipedia

From the microcosms to the macro-cosms, human consciousness is always

in search for information and has thecapacity to find it.

In the Basic Lecture Series, you will learn, and gain some experience, in using yourmind to bring about changes in your phys-ical world. With practice, you can learn toachieve whatever you desire.

RelaxationThe first segment of the Silva Methodprogram deals with learning to relax anytime you need or desire. Controlled re-laxation is the basic state used in theexercises while applying the techniques.

In the Silva Method, you learn to relaxphysically and mentally when at alpha.Relaxing for the recommended fifteen

minutes a day relieves stress and in thatprocess strengthens your immune sys-tem, so you are more resistant to illness.Scientists have discovered that stressenzymes dissolve when one is relaxed.

Fractional relaxation is a method of releas-

ing muscular tension in one part of the body

at a time until the entire body is relaxed. The fractional relaxation approach is of-

ten used in preparation for meditation and

hypnosis. It is very useful as a relaxation

technique by itself. The theory behind this

tension release method is that it is easier to

relax a part of the body than it is to relax

the whole body all at once. Once mastered,

fractional relaxation can be used to relax

    the entire body in seconds.

    While some relaxation techniques start

at the toes and end at the head, the Silva

Method style begins by relaxing the head

    and ends with the toes.

Countdown deepening exercises are used to

gain the experience of deepening. You can

    practice the countdown deepening exercises

by counting backwards from 100 to 1, or 50

to 1, or 25 to 1. Most Silva exercises have

a 10-to-1 countdown to help you enter a

    deeper, healthier level of mind.

Your ideal place of relaxation is a real place

where you go to feel calm, tranquil andpeaceful. Recall this place during your men-

tal exercises. As you practice, the place can

be changed to an imaginary one.

Deep, rhythmic breathing sends more oxy-

gen to the body, which energizes, calms,

and refreshes, allowing you to relax more

    easily.

How to Enter Level OneAlpha, the Basic Plane Level

Our standard way of relaxing and enter-ing the alpha level is to associate andreinforce a specific number with its de-sired state. Number 6 is the outer con-scious level; number 5 is eye fatigue;number 4, eyes closed and you areready to relax.

When we get to number 3, which repre-sents physical relaxation, you will learnhow to relax completely from head totoe. You will concentrate your attentionon different parts of your body, releas-

ing and relaxing tension and negativepressures as you go.

Number 2 represents mental relaxation,a state where you will immerse yourselfin tranquil scenes.

Number 1 is the basic plane level thatyou can learn to use for any purposeyou desire.

True relaxation means relaxing the body,

    and mind while slowing brainwaves.

    Now Deeper

“Deeper” does not refer to brain frequen-cies. Instead, we say “lower.” In fact, when you practice and reach a deeperlevel of mind, you have a heightenedsense of awareness.

There is no physical measurement of anykind to indicate that you are going intodeeper levels of mind.

The mind is not physical. Your mind doesnot emit any kind of measurable physi-cal energy. Your brain transmits a phys-ical energy that can be measured with

Going to level is as easy as closing

your eyes and taking a deep breath.

However, we recommend using one of

the Silva techniques to better manage

    your experience. Here are several:

    an electroencephalograph, but not the

mind. Since your mind is intangible anda sensory function of intelligence, thereis no physical energy associated with it.

Every time you use a mental trainingexercise, you progressively go into adeeper level of mind, and become moreaware of its potential. You use your mindin an enhanced state when you are func-tioning at the alpha level.

With the Silva Method, you learn to use

your mind to influence and make use ofboth the physical and spiritual dimen-sions. Using your mind, you can detectinformation with your physical senses, but you cannot detect the mind directlywith the physical senses. However, youcan use your mind to sense informationfrom another’s mind while you are atthe subjective level.

This is an innovative way of using yourmind to get information and create so-lutions.

    Steps to Meditating

The structure of meditation consists offour parts; entry, deepening, program-ming and exit. The genius statement andthe beneficial statements are examples ofSilva Method programming.

    Genius Statement

The difference between genius mental-ity and average mentality is that a geniususes more of their mind and uses it in aspecial manner. I am now learning to usemore of my mind and to use it in a specialmanner.

    Beneficial Statements

There are a number of affirmations inthe Silva Method program that are ben-eficial and can be repeated from time totime while you are at level:

My increasing mental faculties are forserving humanity better.

Every day, in every way, I am gettingbetter and better.

Positive thoughts, suggestions and im-ages bring me benefits and advantag-es I desire.

    Negative thoughts, suggestions and

images have no influence over me atany level of my mind.

I have full control and complete do-minion over my sensing faculties at alllevels of my mind, including the outerconscious level. And this is so.

I energize and maintain myself in ahealthy way, physically, mentally, spiri-tually and emotionally.

I will always maintain a perfectlyhealthy body, mind and immune sys-tem.

Enter your level and follow theprocess.

The first step is to acknowledgethe problem. This helps to clearlydefine your starting point. It iseasier to get to where you want

to go if you know where youare.

The second step is to state yourgoal. In this particular technique, you will notice that we also in-clude a statement to cancel theproblem. State your goal clearlyso there is no doubt what youwant.

The third step is to establish the

process you will use to get fromthe starting point to the goal.

The fourth step is to do what isnecessary to bring about yourdesired results. It takes action, combined with faith and specifictechniques to achieve results. Sotake the indicated action to reachyour goal.

The fifth step is to claim your endresult. Claim it, believe it, andaccept it. Show genuine enthu-siasm, which adds positive emo-tions.

There are five steps involved, found in one form or another,

in many Silva Method exercises. Each step is very impor-tant for the success of the technique.

    Recognize the existing situa-tion.

    Establish your goal.

Specify what you are going todo to reach your goal.

    Beliefs are thoughts associated

    with experiences that have energy

attached to them. Many of our

beliefs are from our earlier years

    and are frequently associated

    with experiences involving peers,

    parents, and education. These

experiences may be either of a

    positive or negative nature. Most

often they operate at the subjective

    level and exert tremendous impact

    on our lives.

When you have been told that

    you are intelligent and creative,

    then your experiences are

    characteristically of this type. On

the other hand, when you have been

told you are clumsy, dumb or not

    good enough, then these programs

    often shape your experiences.

    Programs operating from the

    subjective level are very powerful.

    Once the program is installed,

there is no evaluation of positive or

negative. The belief is accepted as

    true.

    Your personal beliefs are perhaps

the most important aspect of how

you have lived and how you spend

the rest of your life. When you

want to change a current belief,

you must first examine the beliefsyou currently hold and those new

positive beliefs you want to create.

Then use the Mirror of the Mind

    technique to eliminate the negative

belief and to create and manifest the

new, positive belief, and it will be so.

It is important to eliminate old beliefsthat limit you such as lack in ability, intel-

ligence, competence, not good enough, not deserving good fortune and the like.A good way to determine a possible lim-iting belief is by becoming aware of thestatements you make that contain theword “but.”

“I want to be healthy, but with this ill-ness, it’ll never happen.”

“I wish I could make more money, butwith my education that’s impossible.”

“I would love to find the perfect partner, but all the good ones are taken.”  “I really do want to be happier, but mypast gets in the way.”

“I dreamed of success, but I was born onthe wrong side of the tracks.”

Make a list of your own “buts.”

the brain frequency into the theta rangeand keep it there much of the night.

The person does not enjoy the normalrhythms of sleep cycles and is deprivedof valuable alpha sleep time.

Generally, when a person is unable to geta good night’s sleep, or has a restlessnight and wakes up tired in the morning,it is due to dwelling on problems. Dis-tractions and mental activity can make itdifficult for a person to go to sleep, andcan often make a person feel sleepy in

the morning, and reluctant to get up andface a new day.

In the Sleep Control technique, thereis enough mental activity to keep youbusy so you are not concerned with yourproblems. The mental activity is detailed, repetitious and boring; so boring, it putsyou to sleep.

This technique takes advantage of thebrain’s most primitive part, the reticular

activating system. This part is respon-sible for alerting us to danger and shut-ting down areas of the brain when thesensory input gets too monotonous.

There are several reasons why the SleepControl technique is so effective.

One reason is that it is applied while atthe slower alpha frequency associatedwith meditation, and not from the faster

beta frequency associated with wakeful-ness. This means that your goal of en-tering deep sleep is easier to get to sincealpha is closer to deep sleep than beta.

Another reason the Sleep Control tech-nique is so effective is the mental repeti-tion of the word “deeper.” By now youhave come to develop a strong physical

and mental response to the word “deep-er,” such as deeper within, deeper inthought, a heavy sensation, a light sen-sation, or a feeling of descending.

Additionally, the technique is so effec-tive because it incorporates a count-

down from 100 to one. The techniquefor practicing with the countdown deep-ening exercises for entering deeper anddeeper levels of mind has been stronglyimpressed in previous exercises.

When you use the Sleep Control tech-nique, and you are determined to besuccessful, you will keep on doing thetechnique until you get to sleep, even ifit takes all night. Your mind does not liketo spend time on a task like this. As soonas your mind knows you’re serious, thenyour mind would rather let the body goto sleep than to keep working.

This technique engages the whole brain. The left side is involved in the numbersand in writing “deeper” while the rightside is occupied with the visual process,

the memory of the chalkboard, and whatis written on it.

It is not necessary to have a strong men-tal image of the chalkboard; this comeswith practice. At night, all you have to dois recall what the chalkboard looks like.Remembering what something looks likeis visualization.

    Pay Attention to Details

It is important that you mentally drawa large circle, not a small one. Make

the numbers in the circle large, right tothe edge of the circle. Then erase themcarefully, paying attention to details. Ifyou are paying close attention to de-tails like this, you are not thinking of theday’s problems and letting them keepyou awake.

    When your attention wanders and youforget what number you are on, it’s okay;

just start again with any number. If youfeel that the technique may not be work-ing properly for you, review the instruc-tions and make sure you are doing themcorrectly. For instance, you may not be

erasing the numbers completely or writ-ing “deeper.”

After you are successful, only then canyou start experimenting to see if thereis a variation that works better for you.All Silva Method techniques are formula-type techniques and work best when youfollow the formulas as programmed.

At first, you may need to go through quitea few numbers before you go to sleep. The next night you will go to sleep morequickly. Eventually, you will be able to go

to sleep in only a few moments with thistechnique. It becomes very effective foryou if you persist until you succeed.

You can apply some of the other tech-niques from the Silva Method to deal withthe problems you face daily before youapply the Sleep Control technique. Thenyou will be able to go to sleep knowingyou have done your best.

    Before going to sleep:

Write a list of your problems andconcerns. Next to each problem

write a possible plan of actionyou can take to resolve it.

Do this before you begin yourevening meditation. This is yourfirst step toward solving yourproblems.

    Sleep Control Exercise

Sleep Control is a mental technique thatyou can use to enter normal, natural, physiologic sleep, any time, anywhere, without the use of drugs.

Whenever you need to use Sleep Control, first enter the basic plane level with thethree-to-one method.

At level one, you visualize a chalkboard.Imagine chalk in one hand and an eras-er in the other.

You mentally draw a large circle on thechalkboard. Then you mentally draw abig X within the circle. Proceed to erasethe X from within the circle, starting atthe center and erasing towards the inneredges of the circle, being careful not toerase the circle in the least.

Once you erase the X from within the circle,to the right and outside of the circle writethe word “deeper.” Every time you write

the word “deeper,” you will enter a deeperlevel of mind, in the direction of normal, natural, healthy physiologic sleep.

Then write a big number 100 within thecircle. Proceed to erase the number 100being careful not to erase the circle inthe least. Once the number 100 is erased,to the right and outside of the circle goover the word “deeper.”

Every time you go over the word “deep-er,” you enter a deeper, healthier levelwithin, going in the direction of normal, natural, healthy, physiologic sleep.

You will continue using numbers withinthe circle on a descending scale until youenter normal, natural, healthy, physi-ological sleep.

Whenever you enter sleep with the use

of Sleep Control, and someone calls youor in case of danger, or in an emergen-cy, you will open your eyes, and be wideawake, feeling fine and healthy.

Whenever you enter sleep with the useof Sleep Control, you will awaken at yourcustomary time, or your programmedtime, or you can remain asleep for aslong as you desire. When you awakenyou will be wide awake, feeling fine and

    healthy.

    To Awake Control

    e Clock

In the To Awake Control technique, wehave an automatic system for using ourmind to assist us in achieving goals in ev-eryday life. We will expand on this proce-dure later as you learn other techniques

that you can apply in solving problemsand reaching your goals.

Our consciousness functions with bothinnate abilities, such as the beating ofone’s heart and breathing, and con-scious abilities, like solving a problemor writing this book. Both abilities havethe power to wake us from sleep with-out an alarm clock.

    Biological rhythms, biological clocks,various time givers, andmental pro- gramming allc o n t r i b - ute to youra w a k e n - ing naturallywithout the use of analarm clock. B i o l o g i c a lconsc ious- ness is whatoperates our internal time

keeping device. We now know that thecentral mechanism of our biological clock

is located in what is termed the supra-chiasmatic nuclei, a brain region withinthe hypothalamus. Yet, consciousnesscan override biological intelligence.

We have witnessed phenomena that aredifficult to explain. It suggests that ourconsciousness has its own time-keepingdevice. For instance, a hypnotist can tella subject deep in a hypnotic trance thatin 2,586 minutes his nose will itch and

he will scratch it for exactly one minute, then the itch will stop. Then the hypno-tist brings the subject out of the trance, giving him a suggestion that he will notconsciously remember what the hypno-tist told him. At the exact time, the sub-

ject will begin to scratch his nose. Afterone minute, he will stop.

Who kept time? Who reminds him? Whotold him, “You can stop now; it’s beenone minute; that’s enough”?

Conscious intelligence uses imaginationto communicate with innate intelligence. This means that you are not stuck withthe programming you started with, asare other creatures.

An example of innate intelligence at workis one of a wasp bringing a bug to hismud house. The wasp carries a bug tohis home; he puts the insect down on

the threshold, and goes indoors to in-spect. When the insect is moved oneinch away from the threshold, the waspretrieves and places the insect on thethreshold again and goes in to inspectagain. The wasp never gets the mes-sage; he will exhaust himself pulling theinsect back to the threshold repeatedlyuntil he falls over dead.

Conscious intelligence, equipped withthe appropriate tools, techniques and

resources can change the programmingif it desires to do so. Rather than use aphysical aid to awaken you from sleepyou can use your intelligence.

To use our consciousness you must functionat the alpha level, and use your imaginationto specify the time you want to awaken. You will then wake up at that time.

This technique will work more effectively

when you create and visualize a clearand strong picture of a clock. Choose aclock you are familiar with.

A dream, a honking horn, a barking dogor the sound of someone calling yourname may awaken you. This is the wayyour mind uses imagination to get yourattention.

The primary concern is not merely howyou get up in the morning. Our real goal

is for you to develop and recognize yourability to direct your mind toward a goaland manifest that goal at a specific time.In doing this, you build a foundation thatis of value to you later as you learn ad-ditional techniques.

Practicing this technique will help youdevelop stronger mental controls andmind-body management. You will thenfunction better with techniques that

come later. This is especially so in deal-ing with health cases.

Early on with the Silva Method you learnhow to use your imagination to relaxyour physical body. You are now going togo a step further and learn how to useimagination as a communications tool towork with your consciousness.

    e Clock Exercise

You can use this mental technique topractice awakening without an alarmclock. This helps in strengthening yourmental controls. To use To Awake Con-trol, practice awakening without a physi-cal alarm clock.

Enter the Basic Plane Level with thethree-to-one method just before goingto sleep.

At level, visualize a clock. Mentally setthe time on the clock to indicate the time

that you want to awaken, and tell your-self mentally, “This is the time I want toawaken, and this is the time I am goingto awaken.”

Stay at the Basic Plane Level and justgo to sleep. You will awaken at the timeyou desire and will be wide awake, feel-ing fine.

    Awake Control

The Awake Control exercise is designedto help you remain awake longer whennecessary. It may be used any time youfeel drowsy or low on energy. It can behelpful when staying up late, drivinglong distances or studying until the weehours of the night.

As with other Silva Method techniques, this exercise is to be applied at level, us-ing the five-step process and the exactwording of the formula.

The Awake Control technique is a power-ful program that results in a burst of en-ergy that may last for hours. In addition, science has demonstrated that medita-tion is a way for the body to release en-dorphins causing it to feel both good andenergized.

Together, they make a winning com-bination.

    Awake Control Exercise

Use Awake Control for learning to re-main awake longer. Whenever you’re

drowsy, and you want to be wide awake, especially when you’re driving, pull tothe side of the road, stop the engine, and enter the Basic Plane Level with thethree-to-one method.

At level, tell yourself, “I am drowsy andsleepy; I don’t want to be drowsy andsleepy; I want to be wide awake, feelingfine and in perfect health.”

Then tell yourself, “I am going to countfrom one to five. At the count of five, Iwill open my eyes, be wide awake, feel-ing fine and in perfect health. I will notbe drowsy and sleepy; I will be wideawake and feeling better than before.”

Count, slowly: “One, two, three.” At thecount of three remind yourself, “At thecount of five, I will open my eyes, bewide awake, feeling fine and in perfecthealth.”

Then count slowly to four, then five. Atthe count of five and with your eyes open, tell yourself, “I am wide awake, feelingfine and in perfect health, feeling betterthan before.”

    Dream Control

There are many benefits to learningmore about our dreams, dream states,

and images. With such knowledge, youare better able to recall your dreams andput them to practical use. You developgreater control of your mental abilities. This skill can assist you to improve yourlife in many ways.

    We All Have Dreams

Scientists assure us that everyonedreams, though not everyone remem-

bers them. Fear is the primary rea-son why people do not remember theirdreams. Perhaps nightmares frightenedthe child, and it became easier not to re-call any dreams at all. Over time, peoplelearn to suppress their dreams.

You can learn to remember severaldreams every night by following theSilva Method procedure. Begin slowly;learn to recall one dream a night, thenprogress to remember more dreamseach night. Finally, you can generate adream that has information to help yousolve problems.

    What Do Dreams Mean?

The meaning of dreams is somethingyou can learn through practice and bystudying the most interesting person inthe world: you.

We each have our own unique experi-ences in life. Each of us adopts our ownpatterns of symbolic expressions. Youhave already programmed into your bio-computer your own personal symbolism. You can learn to understand and benefitfrom this symbolism by keeping a dreamlog, or dream diary.

    Dream Control Exercise

Dream Control is a mental technique thatyou can use to practice remembering

dreams. This helps in your development ofmental control.

Dream Control step one.  To practice re-membering a dream, you will enter alpha, with the three-to-one method. Once atyour level, you will mentally tell yourself, “Iwant to remember a dream, and I am go-ing to remember a dream,” You will thengo to sleep from level one.

You will awaken during the night or inthe morning with a vivid recollection ofa dream. Be ready to record your dream. When you are satisfied that Dream Con-trol step one is responding, then start withstep two.

Dream Control step two.  To practice re-membering more than one dream pernight, enter alpha with the three-to-onemethod. Once at level, mentally tell your-self, “I want to remember my dreams, and

I am going to remember my dreams.” You

will then go to sleep from level one.

You will awaken several times during thenight and in the morning with vivid recol-lections of your dreams. Be ready to re-cord your dreams. When you are satisfiedthat Dream Control step two is respond-ing, then start with step three.

Dream Control step three. To practice gen-erating a dream that you can remember, understand, and use for problem solving. You will enter alpha with the three-to-one

method. Once at alpha, mentally tell your-self, “I want to have a dream that containsinformation to solve the problem I havein mind.” State the problem and add, “Iwill have such a dream, remember it, andunderstand it.” You then go to sleep fromlevel one.

When you awaken with a recollection ofthe desired dream, you will record thedream and understand it.

    Headache Control

Doctors advise us that most headaches, possibly ninety percent, are caused by

tension. Relatively few are organic in na-ture. Whether you have a headache be-cause of organic reasons, or feel a ten-sion headache, you can learn to relievethe pain of either type headache throughthe Headache Control Technique.

When headaches you experience arecaused by excessive stress, then you willobtain permanent relief by applying thetechnique. After applying the technique,

the headaches occur less frequently un-til your body forgets how to cause them. When headaches recur on a regular ba-sis, then you can suspect an organiccause, and may need to seek medicalattention.

    When to Use Headache Control

It is important when dealing with head-aches that you apply the technique asearly as possible. Usually people whoexperience migraine headaches can tellwhen one is coming on. It is as thoughan aura precedes the headache. At thevery first indication that a headache isimminent, enter your level and apply thetechnique.

The Headache Control Technique usesthe five-step process for solving prob-lems. First, state the problem. Second, state the goal. Third, establish a plan to

reach the goal. Fourth, implement theplan. Fifth, claim your end result.

Remember, you must apply this tech-nique while at your alpha level. Themore you practice entering your leveland coming out again, the more effec-tive you become.

You can deal with other chal-

lenges in much the same manner

as you do with headaches. Some

    people upon sensing the symp-

    toms of epilepsy have reported

relief by entering the alpha level

and using the same five steps.

Whenever you experience any un-pleasant sensations or thoughts

at level, use the same procedure.

At level, tell yourself what you

    experienced, and add; “I don’t

want this, I don’t need this. In the

future, I experience only what I

desire to experience at my level.”

You can program that a deep

breath or the Three Fingers tech-

nique will help you to have only

the kind of experiences you de-

    sire.

Use your level to create for your-

self the kind of life you desire.

    Practice at every opportunity. The

more successes you have, theeasier it is to achieve success in

    the future.

    Headache Control Exercise

For tension headaches accompanied bymild pain, use one application; for moresevere pain, use two applications fiveminutes apart. For migraine headachesaccompanied by severe pain, use threeapplications five minutes apart.

    Tension Headaches

When you have a tension headache, en-ter the Basic Plane Level with the three-to-one method. Once at your level, men-tally tell yourself; “I have a headache; I

    feel a headache; I don’t want to have aheadache; I don’t want to feel a head-ache.

“I am going to count from one to five andat the count of five, I will open my eyes,be wide awake, feeling fine and in per-fect health. I will then have no headache.I will then feel no headache.

You then count slowly from one to two, then to three, and at the count of threeyou remind yourself mentally that, “Atthe count of five, I will open my eyes, bewide awake, feeling fine and in perfecthealth; I will then have no discomfort. Iwill then feel no discomfort.”

Notice that we have made a change atlevel three, from ache to no discomfort. We left the ache behind. You then pro-ceed to mentally count slowly to four, then to five, and at the count of five, and

with your eyes open, you say to yourselfmentally, “I am wide awake, feeling fineand healthy. I have no discomfort in myhead. I feel no discomfort in my head.”

    Migraine Headaches

When you have a migraine headache, enter the Basic Plane Level with thethree-to-one method. Once at your levelgo through the same procedure as inthe tension headache. Use three appli-cations, five minutes apart.

The first application reduces the discom-fort by a certain amount. Wait five min-utes and apply the second application. The second application takes care of a

greater amount of the discomfort. Waitfive more minutes and apply the thirdapplication. With the third applicationthe discomfort has disappeared.

From then on when symptoms appear, one application will take care of the mi-graine problem. As you continue to takecare of this problem in this manner, thesymptoms will appear less frequent-ly, until the body forgets how to causethem. This brings to an end the migraineproblem without the use of drugs.

For health problems, apply these tech-niques under appropriate medical super-vision.

    Visualization and

    Imagination Defined

Within the Silva Method courses, wedefine visualization and imagination

differently than you might be familiarwith from the everyday use of theseterms.

Visualization refers to the process ofrecalling and replaying memories thatinvolve all sensory modes. Visualizationdoes not refer solely to mental picturing. When you are recalling auditoryexperiences, you are engaging sounds

just as much as if you were recalling

    visual experiences.

Imagination refers to the process ofcreating new images or changing existingones in some way. We can generateimages that include all sensory modes:visual, auditory, olfactory, kinestheticand gustatory.

We encourage you to use your dominantmode of information processing. For example, when using your clock

technique, if you feel you’re morevisual, then you would create a detailedpicture of a clock; if you tend to bemore kinesthetic, you would raise yourarm and, using your fingers, adjust thehands of the imaginary clock.

If you lean toward being auditory, youwould say firmly, “This is the time Iwant to awaken, and this is the time Iam going to awaken.”

The other two modes, taste and smell—while less predominant, may still bepreferred by some.

    e Mental Screen

The Mental Screen is an interactive devicewhere we project images of all kinds. It is used to project and develop yourvisualization and imagination abilities. Asyou develop these abilities, the MentalScreen permits you to mentally correctanything that needs correction.

While something is in its physical form, wecannot change it with mental energy.

We project what doesn’t work onto theMental Screen and make the desired

changes. The role of imagination is tomodify whatever needs altering.

The Mental Screen allows you to makemental alterations to your reality. Oncethe change is made, it can manifest.

In our everyday existence, we havespecial places for certain tasks such asa kitchen for cooking, a bedroom forsleeping, and so forth. We use the MentalScreen for transferring information from

what it is to what we want it to be. Itis where adjustments can be madeeffectively.

Everything that exists is a product of thesubjective realm, a spiritual dimension. It had to be a thought first, before itbecame a physical reality. Thoughts charged with desire, beliefand expectation precede physical mani-

festation. Such thoughts can be mademore tangible using the Mental Screen, making the process of getting what youwant easier and more efficient.

    To Locate Your Mental Screen

To locate your Mental Screen, begin withyour eyes closed and turned slightlyupward from the horizontal plane of sightat an angle of approximately twentydegrees.

Without using your eyelids as screens, sense your Mental Screen to be out andaway from your body. The area that youperceive with your mind is your MentalScreen.

To improve the use of your Mental Screen, project images or mental pictures ontothe screen; concentrate on and projectimages having color.

    Mental energy attracts similar

energies. Feelings and thoughtsattract real events into our lives.Imagination used in the subjectivedimension does not use force theway physical energy does.

This is why we cannot cause harmto others or create problems inthe physical world with the use ofmental energy alone. However, wecan harm ourselves with our own

    thoughts.

We can use positive thoughts andimagination in the subjective, spiritual dimension to correctproblems by attracting theelements necessary for solutions.

    Develop Better Imagery

For successful programming, the use ofmental pictures is the most effective way

to communicate what you desire. Thebest tool we have found for beginners touse in developing their visualization andimagination is the Memory Peg System.

Visualizing is different from seeing. Yousee with your eyes and visualize withyour mind. Visualizing is recalling, toform a mental image of something. Itis a process of recalling the appearanceof something that exists, something you

    have already experienced.

Imagination is a creative process the actor power of forming a mental image ofsomething not present to the senses ornot previously known or experienced.

After you have used your imaginationto create something in the mentaldimension, then it exists as a mentalimage. In the future, when you recallthe mental image you created, this too is

known as visualization. In fact, when youfunction at your level, you can perceivemental images that others have created, and others functioning at their level canperceive your mental creations.

Imagination is very real, which mightexplain why children have nightmares, see monsters, and perceive fantasiescreated by themselves and others.

Adults can learn to attune to theirchildlike faculties in order to be morecreative and solve problems better.

    Improve Your Memory

Memory is the product of visualization, imagination, and association. You can

visualize what you want to remember andthen use your imagination to associate itwith something familiar.

Once you learn the Method of Loci, youcan associate your mental images ofthe things you wish to recall with yourfamiliar objects. When you associatethe objects to be remembered withthe familiar objects of your home in astrange, unusual, or attractive way, they

become much easier to recall. Make yourassociations as outlandish as possible.Exaggerate in size or quantity. Use brightcolors in your images and give themdramatic action.

Once something is impressed on yourbrain, the information stays there. Yourmemory is perfect, even though yourability to recall may not be. You may usesome mental housecleaning when youdo not recall something. For example,

saying, “It has momentarily slippedmy mind; however I will recall it in amoment,” is more beneficial than “I can’tremember,” or “I completely forgot.”

To make strong impressions, useimagery, imagination and association.Make mental images of everything youwant to remember.

Geniuses are people who use their minds

and use them in a special manner. Bypracticing memory pegs, you are usingyour mind in a special manner.

A Physical Action to Trigger a Mental

    Response

There are many benefits to be gainedwhen you function at your level. You canget them any time, anywhere, withouthaving to use the standard three-to onemethod.

The Three Fingers technique is designedfor just that purpose. This triggermechanism is a conditioned response.

Bringing together the thumb and firsttwo fingers of either hand, or both hands,is the stimulus to trigger the alpha state, which is the response you desire.

First find your alpha level, and then lockit in with the Three Fingers technique.Any time in the future when you wantto access your alpha state, simply usethe Three Fingers technique. To achievemaximum effectiveness, program

    specifically for the desired result.

For example you can program to havebetter recall by using the Three Fingerstechnique when reading or listening toa lecture. Program yourself before thelecture, stating what you are going todo, and the result you desire.

    Other Applications

You can use the Three Fingers techniquewhen you are fearful in certain situations. You can program yourself that you willnever be afraid in that situation again.Use the Three Fingers technique toremain calm. When you lose yourtemper, program yourself to remain incontrol of your emotions instead.

You can program yourself to be more

intuitive, more understanding, morepersuasive and more loving, as well asless hungry, less nervous, less forgetfuland less antagonistic.

When you experience a mental statethat you desire, including the one youenjoy while meditating, you can lock itin and access it for use later by simplyputting your three fingers together andshifting your focus inward.

To Read Text or Other Information

Enter the Basic Plane Level with the useof the 3-to-1 method. Tell yourself thatyou are going to count from 1 to 3 and

at the count of 3 you will open your eyesand read the information. State the author’s name or source, title, and subject matter. Add, “Noiseswill not distract me. Noises help meto concentrate. I will have superiorconcentration and understanding.” Thencount from 1 to 3, open your eyes andread the lesson.

When you have read the lesson, onceagain enter the Basic Plane Level withthe 3-to-1 method. Tell yourself, “I willrecall the lesson I have just read (saythe author’s name or source, title andsubject matter) anytime in the future withthe use of the Three Fingers technique.”Come out of level.

    Preparing to Attend a Meeting,

    Taking a Test

To apply the Three Fingers techniquefor test-taking, Use the Following Three-

    Step Method

Step One: Read your test questions inthe way you always do, but do not staytoo long on any one of them. When youhave a ready answer put it down; if not, skip that question and move to the nextone.

Step Two: Use the Three Fingerstechnique, and do as in the first step;this time stay a little longer on theunanswered question. When an answercomes, put it down; otherwise skip thatquestion and move to the next one.

Step Three: Put your three fingerstogether. Read the unanswered questionand when still no answer comes, closeyour eyes, turn them slightly upward.

Visualize or imagine the source that hasthe information on your Mental Screenand ask for the answer. Then clear yourmind by thinking of something else. Then start thinking again to figure outthe answer. The first answer that comesis the correct one. Write it down. Alwaysturn in a complete paper.

Our graduates have shared with us

    several creative examples of success

with the Three Fingers technique not

    found in the Silva training.

    Without communicating with each

other, Silva members worldwidereported the ability to find parking

spaces, locate missing keys and jew-

    elry or important papers. Surprisingly,

this technique works for those who

    haven’t taken the Silva Method.

The reason is simple: The Three Fin-

gers technique contains all the ele-

    ments of successful programming.

Each finger represents a subjectiveenergy, desire, belief and expectancy.

Together, the three add up to faith.

    Imagination is intrinsic to success;

when you imagine a free parking

space, your focus shifts inward, your

brain frequency slows and you go to

    level.

Causing long-lost friends to contactyou, changing traffic lights, avoid-

ing speeding tickets and getting the

perfect seats to a “sold-out” show are

some more rewards above and be-

    yond the regular uses.

    Mirror of the Mind

With the Mirror of the Mind, you usevisualization and imagination to alter anexisting situation and create anythingyou desire to have, do, or be.

The two important keys to success arethat you use the alpha level, and thatyou build and recognize a solid andsupportive belief system, such as faith.

    You Must Have Faith

Faith is made up of three major

components, which are desire, belief, and expectancy.

When any one of the three factors isstrong enough, then it may carry theothers. When there is enough desire, then there may be enough energyavailable to insure success even ifbelief and expectancy are weak. Allfactors, however, must be present tosome degree. If the desire is not verystrong, then it takes greater belief andexpectancy to get results.

Desire  is a motivating force urging youon. It is very important that you havea strong desire. In fact, without desire, you would probably never begin.

Ask yourself these questions: Do youreally desire what you are programmingfor? Do you really need it? Is it importantto you? Does it serve a purpose? Does it

solve a problem? There is much strongerdesire for necessities than for luxuries.

Your consciousness does not like towork on make-believe problems. Yourintelligence is meant for correcting realproblems. The bigger the problem andthe greater the need, the stronger the

desire. When faced with a life-threateningchallenge, there is tremendous desire.

Belief   is an acceptance about you or asituation that sets the blueprint for whatis. Belief sustains you while you wait forwhat you have subjectively created tomanifest in the objective dimension.

Ask yourself the following questions: Doyou believe you are worthy of what youare seeking, or that the situation meritsa solution? Do you have any doubts

regarding the situation? Do you reallybelieve it can happen?

Expectancy   is the facet of beliefthat is confident of the outcome.Confidence comes with success. Thisis why recognition of your successes isvaluable. Take credit for your successesas you use your Mirror of the Mindtechnique. Practice whenever you havean opportunity, so you accumulate manysuccesses.

When you are functioning in the mentalrealm, do not make forceful efforts asyou would in the physical world. This onlycreates tension, which tends to bringyou out of your level. No matter howspatially separated the components ofyour present reality are from what youwant, your mind operates in a mannerto make your goals happen.

Program for future conditions as if theyhave already happened. Believe youhave already received. In the mentaldimension it already exists. You havealready created what you desire.

It is important for desire, belief andexpectancy to be just right. This will

help insure successful manifestation ofyour goals.

    This universal law operates whether

you know it or not. Your personal

    energy—how you think and feel,

    believe and expect—attracts similar

energy. This law works best if you

    consciously participate.

Create your desires with these basicsteps:

Get very clear on what you want.

Once clear on exactly what you de-

sire, focus on it. Stay positive.

What you imagine must be consis-

    tent with what you want.

Allow the universe to give you feed-

back. This could be the most chal-le
