Kyllini on the northwestern coast of Peloponnese
A coastal village with 1079 inhabitants, today important port
for access to the Ionian Islands of Kefalonia and Zakinthos. Zante
island is linked by car-ferry with the port of Kyllini. There are
at least four departures per day. The distance is 18 nautical miles
and the duration of crossing is about one hour

The island of Zakynthos Myth has it that the island was named
after the first founder-hero, the Arkadian Zakynthos. It enjoyed a
great heyday during the Classical period, but because of its
strategic position was attacked many times and captured
successively by the Macedonians and the Romans. In the Byzantine
Age it was plagued by pirates; afterwards came the Venetian
Occupation; in later times its fortunes followed those of the other
Ionian Islands, until their union with Greece in 1864

sa, lsndu-i amprenta asupra culturii, arhitecturii i a stilului de
via. A urmat apoi valul modern de cotropiri: francezi (1797), rui i
turci (1799-1807), imperiul francez (1807-1814), britanicii
(1814-1864). La 21 mai 1864, insulele greceti din Marea Ionica s-au
unit sub steagul Greciei; textul imnului naional -Oda Libertii- a
fost scris de poetul naional al Greciei, originar din Zakynthos,

Laganas is a modern beach resort, with the main strip in Laganas
consisting of bars, restaurants, and tourist shops. The island is
popular with young British, Serbian, Dutch, and German
tourists.

The main attraction of Laganas is the migration of the
loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). Each year during the
months of June, July and August the turtles migrate to the Bay of
Laganas to lay their eggs on the beach. This is a protected beach
which is watched over by ecologists at all times.
