Dear African GN Plenary,

With this letter I am proud to introduce you AIESEC in Ethiopia bidding to be the hosting country of AFROXLDS 2013.

Since the beginning of this term 2011-2012 a team of 5 individual from 4 different countries has worked together just following the dream to make AIESEC a reality in this country. We have faced challenges, unexpected circumstances but also moments of happiness, successes and celebration. We feel that this is the moment to move AIESEC in Ethiopia one step forward towards being a role modelling entity for the network. We are envisioning our country to become an hub of innovation, where everything can happen. Our members are motivated and innovative. AIESEC in Ethiopia wants to set a benchmark for the all world to showcase stories of youth and promote a culture according to which “is kind of fun to do the impossible”.

Despite of the recent enormous economic growth of the last 10 years, which has seen Ethiopia to be the 5th fastest growing economy in the world from 2001 and the 3rd fastest growing economy forecasted for the next 4 years, Ethiopia is still a 3rd world country, where 65% of the population lives under the poverty line. Many social issue are affecting the country, specially in the countryside and in the regions out of the capital city.

AIESEC in Ethiopia can play a crucial role in supporting the development of the county by developing young responsible globally minded leaders. We believe the best way to link all these would be to engage as many youth in volunteering activities to live team experiences in a international contest and in an international environment.

With this Conference we want to re-BRAND the image of Ethiopia in the world starting from Africa to show to 250 young leaders the potential of our land and attract them to partner with us for the development of Ethiopian Students and Recent Graduates to become the future of the country.

For all the above mentioned reasons, I am glad to welcome you to read the bidding of AIESEC in Ethiopia to be the host of AFRO Exchange Leadership Development Seminar 2013.

INTRODUCTION TO AIESEC in Ethiopia

History

AIESEC in Ethiopia was founded in 2008 by a cooperation between AIESEC Italy and KPMG Italy, with the support of gtz

and various AIESEC Alumni from the AIESEC International Network in Ethiopia. AIESEC began official operations in

Ethiopia in 2011, after being recognized and registered as an Ethiopian Society under the Ministry of Justice, Agency of

charities and society. AIESEC in Ethiopia is now active in four faculties of Addis Ababa University and Unity University

(private university) all located in different parts of the city of Addis Ababa. AIESEC in Ethiopia has a great BOA comprising of

Deans of both Universities as well former Alumni of AIESEC (from Germany and Italy) who are closely consulting, advising,

and supporting AIESEC in Ethiopia to offer to students unique opportunities in integrated international professional and

leadership experience which are parallel to their career path.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a developing country located in the North-eastern point of Africa and just like any other third world country is be

wielded by various challenges. Among these challenges, Ethiopia is the only recognized country in Africa which has never

seen colonial rule. Being the seat of the African Union and the Africa Head Quarters of the United Nations, Ethiopia serves as

the networking hub that AIESEC Africa will accelerate relations with international communities and global institutions.

BENEFITS of HOSTING AFROXLDS 2013 in Ethiopia to:

AIESEC:

Position AIESEC towards to the United Nations and African Union Commission as first choice partner in youth leadership:

Given our planned delivery of activities (find attached documents), many international organizations will have the

opportunity to see live, African Youth undertaking activities and learning to grow their own continent and the world at large

“AIESEC spearheading youth engagement across the globe”

AIESEC in AFRICA:

Expose the unique Ethiopian Culture:

Ethiopia is a country with over 80 different tribes and groups possessing a rich culture so diverse that every region of the

country has something unique to display.

Open discussion on Regional Partnerships with AU, UN, ILO, World Bank

Being the networking hub of Africa with the head quarters of most important world organizations, hosting AfroXLDS in

Ethiopia will bring to one platform dignitaries who will contribute to the initiation of strategies, development partnerships

and learning experiences for every person participating in this conference.

Close Communication with other AIESEC African Countries:

Since the main purpose of the X Pros conferences is to unify AIESEC Entities, the organization of Afro X 2013 in Ethiopia

will particularly enjoin other AIESEC Africa entities. Given the current growth pattern of AIESEC Ethiopia in TMP, TLP and

Exchange, we will be showcased as a good case practice for the network recognizing the importance of valuing each type

of stakeholder we have (Students, Members, Universities, BOA, Partners) in accelerated growth.

AIESEC in Ethiopia:

- Position AIESEC within the AIESEC network for exchange growth (ICX/OGX)

- Increase TMP and TLP for Ethiopia

- Entrench the development of AIESEC in Ethiopia for the next decade.
