Mellano & Company, a family-owned and operated floral business. it was founded in Los Angeles in 1925. Today, Mellano & Company farms more than 375 acres in San Luis Rey and 75 acres in Carlsbad.
In January 17, 2014, California’s Governor declared a state of emergency due to severe drought conditions. The Mellano & Company approached Covell Group, the local provider of outsourcing of IT for SMBs, with the goal of obtaining an advanced monitoring and smart irrigation solution for water savings.

The ZyWALL 2WG Firewall/VPN Gateway feeds all the sensor date to Mellano’s data center, it also offers 3G/4G Internet connection via a mobile data card providing Internet access in hard to wire areas the like middle of the farm. With this set-up, Mellano had access to all the critical soil data by remotely logging in to the ZyWALL 2WG any time from virtually anywhere.
