Using PC Refresh and PC Reset in Windows 8.1/ 8 PC Refresh and PC Reset are two different concepts. Both the terms are described below: 1. PC Refresh This involves reinstalling Microsoft Windows 8 without deleting user documents, files and apps downloaded independently, apps downloaded through Windows Store and apps that came with your PC. It'll automatically reinstall the apps installed through Windows Store and those came with your PC. However, it will permanently remove apps installed from DVDs or downloaded independently. A list of all such removed apps will appear after completion of the process. 2. PC Reset This involves reinstalling Microsoft Windows 8. It removes everything- your documents, files, independently installed apps, apps that came with your PC- except those installed from Windows Store. You can either choose to delete data quickly or thoroughly. There are vulnerabilities associated with quick removal. The data can be still recoverable using a file recovery software. Important: Before you Perform PC Refresh/ PC Reset.. In most of the cases, your computer problem is associated with the Registry. Registry is that part of your system where all important information is stored. Its typically known as a complex database containing application settings, hardware configurations, installed applications data, uninstall info, Shared DLL references, and so on. Your computer encounters a problem when the data stored in the Registry becomes corrupt. In that case you won't have to Reset or Refresh your PC. Just scanning all Registry hives and deleting junk information, correcting bad references, will solve the problem. It saves your time. Conducting a Registry Scan.. 1. Download and install Reginout System Utilities. 2. Double click its desktop shortcut or open it from the Start Screen. 3. Start the Registry scan. 4. Wait till Registry problems are displayed on your screen. After completion of the scan, perform complete repair. It typically takes a minute. 5. Restart your computer. Note: Make sure you close all open programs and games before performing Registry scan. The program may not be able to perform repair while applications are running. Initializing PC Refresh 1.
