1. Update on open source innovation initiative being negotiated with the UN and the Ashoka Society. If possible the first global contests will have been completed by the General Assembly in time to have real progress reported.1) UN Reform projects2) Effectiveness/Improvement of UN3) Deal with burning issues: Climate Change and GENIS?

Gangwon Province Proposal

1. As Gangwon Province in Korea has established “Climate Change Center” in Daegwanryung, Gangwon Province, it would like to fund “UN Support Climate Change Situation Room” & GENIS & Intranet

2. Also interested in Government Strategy Units Network & UN Strategy Network

3. Prime Minister Han Seung-soo from Gangwon Province may support this project.

Daegu Cyber Univ to open the 1st Futures Studies Courses, filming in September

1. Three courses to be open this year. 17 lectures 70 min each to last 3 months.

2. We will accumulate lectures to make some 20 courses by next year.

3. We will establish a 4-year futures studies department, to invite futurists to Daegu.

4. We may eventually support on-line futures courses for MP to develop.

MP Korea Node 2008: Work completed

1. MP and MP Korea Node completed Korean national SOFI and report

2. National Futures Strategy Units in the world, a report completed and translated

3. Four Futures Methodology workshops including J Glenn and Jose Cordeiro’s visit as well as Jim Dator: So far 16th futures methodology workshop completed

1. DGIST/Daegu City interested in Brain Institute established, a project coming. 2 futurists required

2. Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo strongly indicated to Pera Wells on 17 July that they are interested in bringing UN Support Climate Change Situation Room & GENIS & Intranet & Network for National Strategy Units for UN

3. Climate Change Center for a project on writing about the seriousness of Climate Change

4. Doosan Group/Joongang Univ interested in establishing a Futures Course

5. Logos Law Firm to open CEO courses for Futures Studies6. Yuhan University to open a futures lecture series

Korean National Futures Strategy Unit Establishment

1. Sagong Il, Chair of the Korean National Competitiveness Committee to be met in mid August along with Mr Lee Young-tak, UN Future Forum Chairman, to discuss how to establish the organization in order to improve the national competitiveness

2. Sagong Il and Lee Young-tak to fund an organization World Future Foundation (www.wff.or.kr), which will be a sister relationship with UN Future Forum

3. There are three more futures organizations eatablished in 2008, futures work becoming popular, which is good.
