• Over the next twenty years traffic will increase dramatically in Swadlincote and the surrounding area.

• We need to start planning now for the future!

• Your task is to convince the planning committee of South Derbyshire Council to accept you ideas…

• There will be four groups…

1) South Derbyshire Council Planning Committee.2) Group in favour of more road building.3) Group in favour of improving public transport, buses,

trams, trains etc.4) Group in favour of encouraging people to walk and cycle.Groups 2-4 need to prepare a short presentation to give to

the planning committee. Group 1 needs to consider, beforehand, the arguments that they would be expecting to hear from each group. After they have heard the three groups they will need to make a decision as to which proposal should be allowed to go ahead.

Each group will have one fact sheet to help but, you will need to do a lot of thinking for yourself!
