Technology Development Center

• Creation of the TDC was initiated in 2007 with an innovation partnership zone (IPZ) grant from the state ($1 million) and $700,000 in additional funding.

Solar Observatory at the TDC

• Currently acquiring data for use in developing solar power forecasting models for the PNW climate.

• Real-time collection of solar irradiance data: http://solarwind.ucsd.edu/observatory.php?loc=bellingham

• Future plan is to add wind data collection capability.

• Forecasting models are critical for predicting solar/wind power output.

Solar/Wind Energy Demonstration and Testing Facility

• ~100 kW PV array on the TDC roof

• Ground level hybrid PV/wind test-bed

– 1 kW PV array, 7.5 kW wind turbine

• Solar observatory and meteorological instrumentation for solar/wind power forecasting
