Cross Dissolve

We used cross dissolve to smooth edits in order to make them appear to run through at a good pace.

Using Garage Band For Sound

Originally we used only digetic sound to emphasis the feeling of isolation. We wanted to only use natural sounds as they are more ecologically valid (true to life). However, it is important to manipulate sound to also create the suspense of isolation. We used garage band to create our non-digetic sound.

By using garage band it allowed me to layer the different sound clips to finally get the sound I was looking for. Not only did we test out different sound clips on garage band but, we edited the volume of the digetic sound into the non-digetic (created in Garage Band) to make sure it flowed smoothly together.

Colour Correction

When we showed the group our thriller opening, one improvement noticed was that when Ali woke up it appeared to be still night time even though we wanted it to be clear that it was morning as she was getting ready for school.

A way in which we made it appear as though it was the morning (even though we filmed in the evening) was through the use of colour correction. Colour correction allows you to select from a wide range of colours then enhance your selected colour into your film sequence.

Using the video filter: Vignette

In the woods scene of our opening sequence we wanted it to be clear to the audience that this scene was not in reality. One way in which we did this was by using vignette to make it appear misty along the boarder of the film sequence.

This video filter effect improved the quality of the film sequence. Even though it was not an exaggerated effect, it made the audience feel as though the scene was either supernatural or a dream.

Using Dafont

When editing in our credits we wanted to use a creative font and so www.dafont.com was the best website for that. We selected two different fonts; one for the name of our thriller, and the other for our group’s individual names.

This is the font used for our thriller name, The Thicket. We chose this font as it is in a handwriting style font. This creates an enigma, making the audience question who’s writing is being used.

This font is also in the handwriting style. By using two different styles of the handwriting font, it implies that it was written by two possible witnesses.
