related to your major, a hobby or a personal project.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

You are required to create a website that is related to your

academic major, a personal project or a hobby. (For example:

you may want to create a website for a business that you

currently own or want to own.) You will work on portions of the

website project using the guidelines under the 7 project tasks.


Ready to get started? Task 1 is waiting for you!


TASK 1: DESIGN PROPOSAL

For this task, you will create a design proposal for your website.


DeliverablesThis week, you will submit the web site

proposal. The web site proposal will include

the following:• Website topic• Brief description of website topic• Intended audience• Storyboard (You can use Microsoft

Word’s drawing feature)


Action Plan1. Type the proposal using a word

processing program

2. Save the web site proposal using

this filename:• Proposal-YourLastName (where

YourLastName is your last name)

TASK 2: IMAGES

For this task, you will create the home page and locate images for the website.


DeliverablesCreate the home page for your website using

the basic XHTML codes to create a web page:• Name the homepage index.html• Use the information in your website

proposal to add the basic content to your

home page• Save the content pages using appropriate

filenames


Notes• You will continue to add to the home page

throughout the course.

• You can also create the website content pages

using basic XHTML codes

• Create a folder on your computer named Images.

• Store the images in the Images folder that you

created on your computer.


Action PlanYour website should include least one of the

following on the content pages:

1. Original artwork created by you in Adobe

Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Paint or other

graphics software. A single colored or plain

gif or jpeg does not satisfy this requirement.

Using this gif or jpeg as a background gif

will not satisfy this requirement.


Action Plan (cont.)2. Digital photograph (you have taken yourself)

and is relevant to the topic. The digital

photograph file must be in a gif or jpeg format.

3. Public domain (or freeware) clipart (e.g., gif

image). Be sure to get permission from the

owner of the clipart/pictures before including

clipart/pictures that are copyrighted. Note: On

the web, if it does not say the image is free, you

must consider the image to be copyrighted and

thus, you need to have permission to use the

image/picture in your website.

your project pages. • At least one clipart must be on one of the

content page

Search the Internet for images to use for your

website project.• You can also use personal digital photographs

and images that you create

TASK 3: INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL LINKS

For this task, you will internal and external links to the web pages.


Adding Internal LinksNavigation menu:

Add links at the top of each page OR along

the left side of each page that contains links to

every page in your project. When you perform

your next task, you will add the links to a table

to complete the navigation menu.

Make sure that you test the links.

Adding External LinksThe content pages should include at least

three links to external websites that relate to

your website topic.

Make sure that you test the links.

TASK 4: TABLES

In this task, you will add a table with links.


Adding Internal Links/NavigationInsert an XHTML table at the top of each page

OR along the left side of each page that contains

links to every page in your project.• The borders of the cells must be visible.

• The same navigation menu should be included

on all content pages.

• Insert the links to the web pages in a cell of

the table.

• The navigation menus on the content pages

should also include a link to the home page.

• Use of FRAMES is not permitted.

TASK 5: FORMS

In this task, you will add a form to the website.


DeliverablesAdd a form to at least one of the web pages.

The borders of the cells must be visible.

The form will include:

• Submit button – button will not work

when clicked.

• Reset button – button will work

when clicked.

• At least four different form elements such

as a textbox, radio buttons, etc.

TASK 6: CSS STYLE SHEETS

In this task, you will add a style sheet to your website.


DeliverablesAdd Cascading Style Sheets with at least the

following formatting elements. (Your website

should include at least one external style

sheet)• Text color• Background color• Text formatting (ex. Italics, Bold)• Headings

TASK 7: UPLOAD TO SERVER

In this task, you will upload the web site files to a web server.


DeliverablesYou have several options for storing your

web pages:

1. If you have access to a server, you may

have to contact the IT Help Desk for

assistance on how to upload the web

pages.• You can use a free FTP (File Transfer

Protocol) program, such as Core FTP

to upload the files.

to upload your web pages.

3. You can access your Internet provider

and ask if you have access to web

space.
